It is Reveal Day

Saturday, July 11, 2020

My hostas are in bloom. I am thankful they came back. In the spring the deer ate them and they did not look good at all. Now they look healthy again and are blooming.
Today s kind of a bittersweet day. My son and DIL, who are expecting, are having a gender reveal party this evening. We are invited and I would LOVE to attend. BUT they have invited over 40 people. They live in a very small house. We have attended parties there before and it is VERY crowded. People all on tip of each other.
They have borrowed our tent to put up in the backyard, as long as it does not rain ( there is a 50% chance). But even that will be crowded with so many people in attendance. I have never seen either my son or DIL wearing face masks.
My other son called and told us he will not be going due to the crowd and no face masks. He works for a pharmaceutical company and is very aware f the risks. HIs company has what they hope is a viable vaccine which is going into human trials in September. If it works, it will be available in the beginning of next year. They are already manufacturing it, hoping it will work.
Our daughter and her fiancé are attending. SHe has promised to Facetime me when they are doing the reveal, so at least I can see it.
It makes me sad that Covid has made it unsafe for me to be there for this happy event. This pregnancy is one of the happiest things we have to hold onto during this difficult time.
ONce again, I have to look past the disappointment and focus on the happiness and joy. I am excited to find out if I will be the grammy of a little girl or little boy.
Have a wonderful day, dear friends.

I am not a fan of a gender reveal. I didnt want to know what it was until I gave birth. I guess I am old fashioned but I figured if God had wanted me to know I would have figured it out myself. Only with modern medicine can this be done. But that said for those who do like it then enjoy.

    Have a great day

No masks seems DUMB for the pregnant woman, I'm sorry to be so blunt, but that is just an extra unnecessary complication...this past week, iirc, cnn reported that in TX they found one-third of pregnant women have covid unknowingly, and that complicates labor, and those babies must be immediately q'd, and mom never even gets to hold them until after q.

Smart you are not going. Should have had a rain out day and/more tents. Or do it a little smaller, with key family. Half the people they invited won't even be involved with the child in 2 years, never mind 10 years. You will. I'm sorry, but this angers me, on your behalf. Your post in the feed about the baby the other day had made my day that day.

    Also GORGEOUS hosta flower pic!

You are making a good decision. Better sad than sorry. And with FaceTime it will be as if you were there!

It is sad that you can't be at the party in person, but so nice that you will be able to Facetime the party. You know that you are doing the smart thing and you will be a wonderful grammy.

Sad you have to miss the party. Totally understand. Hope they will embrace masks as responsible parents.

Covid has changed so many things and caused so much discord between my family. My nephew had his wedding over 300 guest, and his parents next Saturday a 25th anniversary which we are not a part of with like you no mask and no social distancing. Sorry you are missing out on two parties in two weeks and hopefully they understand the importance of keeping the pregnancy protected as time goes on also.

Your Hostas, re looking might fine, thank goodness they came back after the deer got at them. I have a friend that had hostas, and the deer were constantly eating at them every year, she finally removed them, bu then they went after the some other things she had planted.
I would be staying home from the gender reveal under the circumstances of a lot of people being at the reveal, along with some not wearing masks.

I don't blame you for not going with that big crowd and they aren't wearing face masks. I would be too scared. It's too bad your son and dil couldn't come to your yard and do a mini reveal with you.

Parties like that during a Pandemic are not wise. You need to take care of yourself as well, especially during the surge.
