Suffering That's Too Familiar

Friday, August 07, 2020

Found this last week and I've spent this week thinking about it. I guess that's a sign of a good quote, lol.

Being overweight is not something I would generally consider "suffering", but it can be in a way. Especially if that extra weight prevents you from living life, in whatever form that might be. Perhaps you want to start running, or you want to take a simple walk around the neighborhood with the family, maybe a hike that seems to strenuous, or a bike ride. So you put it off until you get to a "better" weight.

But that better weight never comes because a part of you is *really* comfortable with the way things are. For me, eating is highly emotional. I know that, and it's familiar to me. If I lose weight, there's a possibility it might dredge up feelings and emotions that I don't particularly want to deal with.

I think in order to work through this, I need to forgive--myself. The last person to usually forgive us, is us ourselves. It’s one of those parts of human nature. It’s a natural occurring process, however that doesn’t mean we can’t turn that around. It may require a bit of extra work, but it is most certainly possible.

So I think I'll work on that this week ;-).
