A little milestone reached!

Another personal blog.

Reached a milestone today, a little below what I weighed at the beginning of 2020. I am so glad!

When I started intermittent fasting and OMAD in 2019, my weight dropped a little most days. Then in December 2019 I tried to incorporate water fasting days into my routine. It felt great but lasting weight loss slowed. The ups and downs left me at almost the same place at the end of the month as I was at the beginning. That was discouraging. (My habits stayed rock solid over the holidays and there was no weight gain!)

I did intermittent fasting and OMAD in 2020 but it was not consistent every week. Where had the momentum gone? The 2020 weight loss graph is a gentle straight line until August. In August IF and OMAD had once again become solid habits.

Re-gains have plagued me since I started this journey in 2006. Most of the time the re-gains were enough to wipe out the losses or even move me above where I started. It was plain to see when this happened during times I would get discouraged and give up.
It was not apparent to me how often it happened every week when I was moving in the right direction. Once I realized that last year, it became my focus to minimize the constant ups and downs every week. I thought of maintenance as what happens when I reach that magical end-goal weight. Now I know that maintenance must happen every day of the journey to hang on to every hard-won loss. While we want to be able to flex, a bite here and there matters. That led me to intermittent fasting to stop the snacking.

Some people get discouraged by numbers. Numbers excite me. Measuring inches and pounds is a fairly accurate way to assess progress (or lack of it). Feelings are unreliable.The numbers tell a more accurate story.
