a peek at what I do in my spare time

I wrote in the community feed that I'd begun to pull up seat and set a spell, reflecting again. I also have begun picking up a pen, yet again. Here are two oldies of mine. 2 small poems published in the mid-90s. Now that I'm in my 60s I thought I'd pull out all the stops, dress to the 9s, and sing along with Steve Allen & Jack Kerouac doing that song they wrote entitled "I used to have an old silk hat like that one once." Naw, I can't carry a tune in a bucket anymore. hahaha
Is there a deeper blue than
a clear lake under open sky?
Or a quieter place than
the thickest thicket in the wood
on a cold, midnight hour?
Is there a hollow blacker than
the deepest pit within the mount?
Or a more sad, loathsome cry than
a seagull's lonely weeping
over the smashing of the waves?
I wish I could answer "No".
I have looked for simplicities
Within life's varied intricacies
And after I'd sifted enough
I found all kinds of simple stuff.
Amid the experiences I'd gleaned
I espied a nugget on the screen
I grasped ahold of it until
Its very nature changed my will.
I suddenly began to see
Its truth applied all 'round me
And so I'll share this truth with you
It is: Love is something you do.
Please note I'm sharing this with you in hopes it inspires you, causes you to pause and reflect. My publisher thought they did so and covered the initial cost to do a run of these bound between two covers. hahaha I know, that's an odd thing to do. We called them books.
