Still Raining in Houston

Wednesday, September 23, 2020

NOW the newscasters are talking about “Flood Warning Fatigue”, to which they attribute all the people ignoring warnings and driving into high water that their vehicles cannot handle....

I guess it is politically incorrect to describe someone as being as dumb as a rock...

A few years ago, one of my brothers made a long anticipated trip to Iceland, but that the guided tours they took through geothermally heated bubbling pools on walkways were always accompanied by smiling guides who told them to stay on the designated pathways, and if they didn’t, Iceland didn’t have many lawyers and that the tourist who disobeyed and got hurt would be considered “Stupid” and that they caused the injury to themselves by being stupid. My brother considered it a refreshing warning, though he is a lawyer himself.

I DID get out in the rain today, but avoided high water, and kept an eye on Buffalo Bayou, very near where I’m staying... some parts of Houston have received well over 10 inches of rain, but I don’t think this is anything like the record rainfalls of the past, but this one is moving slowly which generates more rainfall per square mile AND that there ARE more news hungry reporters and news outlets who are trying to out SCOOP one another....

anyone who has read Dan Rather’s autobiography knows that he got his big break when a hurricane came rolling in over Galveston (Hurricane Carla? Can’t remember which one, but it was a doozy) This one isn’t even a tropical storm anymore, but it continues to make a mess...

I’m driving west tomorrow but will stay safe, and drive ever so cautiously, I promise! All of the storm is moving off to the East....

We enjoyed the note about your brother. Sounds like a good guide. :-)
I do have a hard time with people that don't follow the rules. Maybe a good fine would help them learn.

Stay safe. Got a chuckle out of the Icelandic tour guide's warning. AMEN! Just plain stupid is what it is not to follow the rules. Sheesh!

    Drive safely.
