Daily picture of my backyard on the mountain to track the changing seasons this year.

Evening Report
Hello friends, this will be quick one. Thank you for all your messages of support and prayers for the storm on my previous blog.

The above picture was the sight I was greeted with this morning. Here's another view of the yard at the same time.

Today went well despite the winter storm. Thank God there was no wind. This was one of the quietest winter storms I've seen. It was freezing cold and it was snowing from early in the a.m. until about 4pm. I think we picked up another 5 inches. But aside from the fact that no one was going anywhere and I've had to snow blow and shovel my driveway again, it was not a terrible storm. I could not finish clearing the driveway so will have to pick it up again tomorrow.

My bird friends visited me all day from morning to afternoon. I could understand as everything was covered and re-covered in snow. I'm sure it was hard for them to find their normal food. So I kept the birdbath filled with warm water and put out several servings today of peanuts and bread, especially since the temperatures tonight are going into the teens and possibly single digits. I do not envy the wildlife having to stay outside in this weather.

I got some nice photos of my bird friends today. They even hung out on the deck railing as I refilled the water and poured out lines of the food. It also seemed that everyone behaved and "took turns" getting food, leaving, waiting and flying in for more. The little dark bird that almost entered my house the other day almost tried it again today when I ran back inside for the bowl of food. Such a cutie. Here are the photos, taken of the birds on my back deck; I've posted the names I've given some of the birds.

Here's Tuffy (a Tufted Titmouse). He's pretty comfortable around me and waits nearby while I lay out the food and water.

I'm not sure what these birds are - I have to look them up - but one of these is the one that almost entered my house a couple times.

Some other birds...

Here's Junior (Blue Jay) or one of the "Juniors" :) The Blue Jays are also really comfortable with me.

Some new birds showed up today too. I swear, I think the birds are spreading the word to come to my house!

Here's Tuffy again.

Some more new bird friends I don't know...

Additionally there were a bunch of sparrows and wrens that kept directly beneath my window to eat the food I put out... it wasn't as easy to capture their pictures. I hope you enjoyed this. I really enjoy sharing my wildlife friends and nature area with you.

As always, thanks for joining me, friends. See you tomorrow! Have a good night!

I love the pictures of the birds! We mostly get brown sparrows in the city. Not sure what else we get... They never show themselves. Glad there was too much snow too!

Great photos of your bird friends!! They are so happy you are in their lives.
I thought about you this morning. I have a bird feeder off of my patio and it attracts bird friends, but I noticed the Cardinals and others prefer to pick the seed that has fallen into the rock bed below the feeder. So I started throwing out handfuls of seed directly on the rock bed, and now I have a very active bird gathering. All kinds of birds. Blue birds, yellow birds, red birds. The Cardinals will always be my favorite, though.
Thank you for sharing. Stay warm!

Love your bird pictures!! We have just moved to PEI where the provincial bird is the blue jay -- and getting my feeders up is a top priority!!

I think I'm also seeing slate coloured juncos, Bohemian waxwings and starlings in your pictures!!

Well, I am glad the storm was not too bad. Hope they are over for a while. So nice that you are keeping your bird friends fed. They do have a hard time for sure. I have many of the same birds you have, except we have the scrub Jay, which looks different than your Jays. I have seen your type in our mountains. Is nice how they let you take a picture. My camera scares them. I was trying to get pictures yesterday. Do you use a camera, or something smaller?
Loved your blog and pictures. Hope it stays calm where you are for a while. Have a nice day Karen emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You are getting burred with snow. So nice of you to watch out for the birds and yes, I believe they put out the word when one finds a good place to eat. I used to feed the squirrels (before Daisy) and honestly, a few minutes after I put the seed on the ground they would scurry from all around. I worked from home and my desk was in front of the window to the back yard. So much fun to watch them!

The birds are so comfortable with you. It’s obvious when you were able to take such close ups. As you know I put out food on my front porch. I was amazed not only did I have blue jays but I had 8 cardinals (4 male /4 females). It was amazing to see them in the tree near my porch. I couldn’t believe it. Also, a lot of smaller birds. I didn’t realize how big blue jays are until you see them next to the other birds. What a joy! Loved your pictures. Thanks for sharing!
