Hello from Denver! I read quite a bit. I usually have an audiobook and regular book going at the same time. I listen to books while getting ready for work and while driving. And then I read regular books before bed or any other time I have a moment like my lunch break, waiting in lines, etc. I'm active on Goodreads and love that site. I keep track of everything I read and want to read.

So far in March I've read:

Holiday In Death by JD Robb - 3.5 stars
Midnight In Death by JD Robb - 3.5 stars
Give the Devil His Due (Tarot Mystery #3) by Steve Hockensmith - 3.5 stars
The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian - 3 stars
Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty - 2 stars

I am returning to Sparkpeople after a break. Sparkpeople works for me because it provides the flexibility to make my own decisions about healthier habits and the structure to track my progress. Previously, I didn't make use of the social opportunities available. Maybe an active Sparkteam will add a little extrinsic motivation. I am currently reading The Quiet American, by Graham Greene.

Hi there! I'm new to the team but not new to SP. I'm glad to be a part of a group that loves books as much as I do. I've made a goal to read 30 books this year, and I'm currently reading "The Zookeeper's Wife." I'm a huge fan of historical fiction and non-fiction. I love the classics as well and especially love Georgian era British fiction. Anything that can transport me to another time period and place is my kind of book. Can't wait to see what everyone else is reading!

Hello, I've been a member but not active for a while. I'm trying to be more active on SparkPeople in general so I'm reintroducing myself. I find myself reading very different genres than I used to. I'm really excited about it. I have my to be read pile listed on goodreads.com. I found this helpful because several books were part of a series. It also helped me go through them and I sold many that no longer interested me. I still have so many. So far this year I read:
Together Tea by Marjan Kamali
Lamb by Christopher Moore
Tigers Destiny (CD) by Colleen Houck
Alaska Twilight by Colleen Coble
Pirate (CD) by Clive Clesser
Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly
The Anatomy of Ghosts by Andrew Taylor
Land of Love and Drowning by Typhanie Yanique
White Oleander by Janet Fitch
Dead Dog Like Me by Max Davis
Almost Moon by Alice Sebol
The Church Builder by A.L.Shields
And currently reading
Wilderness Rising by A.L.Shields

I believe in you.
Have a Happy Day! HUGS

Have decided that I'd love to visit READINGGAL's house! A room dedicated to books and a beagle to hang out with - heaven! A couple of my cats like to walk back and forth across my lap when I'm reading. I'm thinking of counting as exercise my having to keep lifting my book up and put it back onto my lap to accommodate their marches. emoticon

Thank you, Jen169, for telling me about this group. It appears to be my cup of tea. I love reading. In fact, at the beginning of this year, we made our 3rd floor finished attic into a library. My beagle, Hunter, and I love reading time up there. Looking forward to getting to know everybody as we share our reads.

The book is called, "Immanuel: A different kind of Christmas romance" It can be found at www.smashwords.com/profile/view/MPC1

Or at Barnes and Nobles

There's an amazing amount of books out there! If each book was worth 1 penny, the world would be rich!

Hi!

I'm a reader. Always have been. Would rather read that watch TV or a movie. My husband is the same way.

We have books stashed almost everywhere! I try to keep a lid on 'em tho.

No kids.
Had 2 cats that disappeared within weeks of each other. :-(

I like to read stories that have happy endings. My favorite line so far has been Harlequin's Duets (out of print). I also get a kick out of Children's and Young Adult books. Has anyone read, "Frindle"?

Since I like to read so much, I decided to try writing a book. Well...the book is finished and published. Whew!

Looking forward to getting acquainted with you all. :-)

My name is Hannah. I'm 41 years young. I've been on Spark off and on for years, but haven't been that involved with teams. I'm here to lose weight, forty-three lbs.- it's a lot! I walk for fitness or ride my stationary bike. Now that I'm back to Spark, I want to make sure the weight loss works this time.

I love to read, but have been reading less since our family got connected to the internet. Too many fun games! I was hoping this team would motivate me to read more. It looks like a fun, active team! I used to review all my books, just for myself, but fell out of the habit. Amish fiction is a favorite of mine, as well as ghost stories, and children's literature. I also like to read mysteries and true crime stories. Anyway, looking forward to being more active on the team and sharing my reviews with you!

I've loved reading since I was a kid. I worked for 7 years as a bookstore manager for Waldenbooks, and I loved sharing recommendations and my love of books with customers. I left retail before the Borders corporation went bankrupt (thankfully), but I still do plenty of reading for pleasure and sometimes for self-improvement. I'm sure I will be sharing favorite titles, authors and series on this team. In the read more about me section of my Spark page, I do mention a lot of favorites for fiction and non-fiction, as well as movies and TV series (though not much of the latter that's current, as I'd rather be reading!)

I lead or co-lead 3 other teams, so I may not be real active here, but couldn't resist that team photo of the sweet kitten!

Blessed Be, Amanda

Hi! My name is Jenny. I love to read, and I look forward to getting to know everyone on the team. There are a couple of people that I know already, and was delighted to find them on this team.

I have been a member since August 2009, and lost 70#, only to regain most of it back. Now I am in my 50s and am starting all over! It is harder now, but I started with the activity tracker today, and I started to log my food. I am doing this.

I just finished The Giver Quartet. I read The Giver for a book club, but when I bought the book, I found it to be only a few dollars more for the gift edition of the four stories, and I knew I would want to read them all. When I went to the meeting, it was hard for me not to give anything away because I was in the middle of the third book, and only one other person had read the series, and one other person had read the second book.

Now I am reading The Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club by Wanda E. Brunstetter. Thinking that I might try the quilt pattern that comes with it.

Thanks for the welcome message on my Spark page Shari!

Peace and Many Blessings!

Hi I am Mary Catherine. I have been on Spark People probably since around the time they started but under different names. I love to read most genres and in general am not that picky about what I read--except erotica and excessive violence.

Hi I'm Susan. I've been SparkFriends with Shari probably since my first day on the site. I love to read!

I have a Kindle Fire which needs recharged daily, and probably about 100 books behind in reading all the freebies I have downloaded.

Looking forward to entering into the discussions here.

Thanks so much for paying me a visit, Karen! Well, it was a real pleasure to look at all your paintings - oh, to have that kind of artistic talent! I'm lucky if I can get dressed in the morning without committing all sorts of color-combo crimes in the process emoticon

It's great you eat healthy! I doubt those 10 pounds are harming you, too. If I were able to exercise more, I probably wouldn't track every ounce of grub that passes my lips, but I've got a twisted pelvis (something you can only really tell because my right toe always points slightly eastward, LOL!), and walking is very painful on my right hip and knee. That was one of the most compelling reasons for my weight loss - joint pain! :::creak::: emoticon

Welcome to the team Karen!

I'm very glad to hear you chose our team! I wasn't the original leader of the team, but I applied to take over as team leader when the spot was opened after the original team leader abandoned the team. That was a few years ago, never heard anything from her, so I think she left Spark too.

Thanks so much, Susan. I paint for smiles; fun; kicks. It's my hobby. If it brings a little smile to someone, I'm thrilled.

I peeked at your page. Love your humor. Did you know you described my own personal appetite/eating style? lol I'm still working on about 10 lbs. Haven't been faithful in logging food. sigh I eat healthy. Just too much.

Hi Everyone!

I'm a long time member of SP but just found your team. Actually I searched for teams with the word "book" in them and browsed quite a few, but this one looked the best. I especially like the Book Review thread, so I'll be reading that a lot.

I've been on a "great literary masterpiece" thing lately, and have recently read The County of Monte Cristo, War and Peace and Anna Karenina.

I read a wide variety fiction, almost everything except Romances. (I like my romance in person, lol.) When not reading I'm trying to stay healthy by avoiding sugar and starch and get my exercise line dancing.

Happy to be here. Feel free to visit my SP page and read my blogs. The older ones are most interesting, lol.

I know I have a wacky screen name here (I'm not too original, I guess, and just threw up my hands when I thought of that one!) but my real name's Susan. Ev mentioned SciFi, and my husband's a huge fan of that - to the point of devouring everything I can sweep off our library's SciFi section for him!

I'm less of a fiction fan (wish I were MORE of one) and into biographies and self-help. Right now, I'm listening to an Audible book that's probably not all that characteristic of my usual bio choices - Keith Richards' "Life," as read by Johnny Depp (who does an INCREDIBLY fine job, BTW!). Richards will be 70 next year, and his story begins right around WWII, in England. It's compelling! I was never that much of a "rocker," although I've always enjoyed the Rolling Stones.

I've also read a number of books about addictions of all sorts, having been plagued by binge-eating disorder until three years ago. Eating disorders and all sorts of substance recovery books fascinate me; I guess it's the underlying similarities involved in the addictive process.

Looking forward to knowing more about your "reads"! Happy page turning... Susan

Hello, my name is Evelyn but I'm called Ev or Ang by my friends. Although I was born and raised in NE OH, I have lived full time in NE FL for 21 years. My wonderful hubby who is also on SP and loves to read, was born and raised in NE MN. We met on the internet and he has lived here since we married in 2000. I enjoy reading, writing, and genealogy. Someday I need to write a fictional book on our love story.

I used to own a used book store in OH. I was so fortunate to have so many books available to me. I enjoy reading most genres, but if something is too violent/gory/sexual descriptive, I usually won't finish it. SiFi doesn't thrill me too much either, but I have even read some of them that are good. I have so many favorite authors and books, it would be difficult to name them all or even chose!! I do like fiction and nothing to intellectual. I did all that in school and I get several magazines that give me enough in my day to day life. One book I did get in a real book and not the Kindle edition was Forensics of genealogy. That's about the deepest I go.

There are several members that I already know, so I am looking forward to meeting others of you. Oh, I love having a cuppa and a good mystery or political suspense.

Greetings,
Glad to meet you all and I am glad I found this group.
I grew up in New York City, went to school in Wisconsin. taught there for 10 years and moved to Arizona. Have been a teacher and reading specialist for over 30 years. I was a technical trainer for a call center and currently I'm an Admissions Rep for a College.

Current Favorite Authors are Vince Flynn, Daniel Silva, Clive Cussler. I have discovered the world of spies and mystery. The above 3 are my most current authors. Two years ago, I read a book a week because I used public transportation to go to and from work.I have since slowed down.

Like to collect Polish recipes and recipes from India.
Listen to mostly classical music but I like Brazilian street music and Samba. But love to listen to Clara Nunes-she has a beautiful voice.

My wife of 33 years and I live in Gilbert, AZ with our dog Barney. We took him off the street, he was abused and starving when he trusted us enough to let us take him in.

Hello everyone!

I live in London, UK, and keep Amazon in business :)

I love reading, mainly fiction although I like other stuff too. I usually have several books on the go. Currently there's Bill Bryson's Mother Tongue on my bedside chair, Iain Bank's Espedair Street in my bag, and Stephen Inwwod's A History of London in the bathroom!
I've just finished reading Terry Pratchett's The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents and Katie Fforde's Life Skills (got to say, I thought that one was a waste of time), and I have a pile of more Terry Pratchetts, Bill Brysons and Iain Banks on my living room table, with Neil Gaimann, John O'Farrell and Ian Ranking keeping them company.

Hi, glad I found this team! I'm a librarian, married to a librarian. Can you imagine what our house looks like?! I've been reading since I can remember. My father tells me that I would even memorize books he read to me and "read" them out loud while he turned the pages. I'm a real mystery fan, especially like reading about female sleuths. I use the word "sleuth" loosely. I don't mind if the sleuth is professional or amateur. I also enjoy non-fiction. I'm currently reading ". . .And Ladies of the Club" but it's a real doorstopper and pretty slow going so I dip into it every day or so while reading other things "on the side". I've got a biography of Benjamin Franklin in my bag now and am also reading "Quaker Summer" by Lisa Samson. I'm mom to 6 cats and one dog and love it when one of the cats will curl up with me when I'm reading!

I WORK AS A PART-TIME CLERK IN A LIBRARY SO I LOVE TO READ AND I COULDN'T WORK IN A BETTER PLACE FOR ACCESS TO BOOKS. THE PROBLEM IS WANTING TO TAKE SOMETHING OUT EVERYDAY I WORK, BOOKS CAN BE AN OBSESSION. I READ ALL KINDS OF BOOKS IT HELPS ME TO BROADEN MY HORIZONS. I ALSO HAVE THE NOOK FOR READING IN BED BECAUSE WITH MY ARTHRITIS I FOUND IT HARD TO HOLD UP A BOOK FOR TOO LONG.
I HOPE TO KEEP UP WITH THIS TEAM.

I am prepared to go anywhere, provided it be forward. David Livingstone

My name is Carol. I have always loved books and reading. I got my first library card at age 3. I married a guy who loves books, and both our kids love them, too. I read mysteries, science fiction, history, biography, poetry - everything, really. My favorite authors are Jane Austen, Ruth Rendall, Ursula K. LeGuin, and others. Our house is filled with books, top to bottom, and we rent storage space for books because we ran out of room at home. My husband collects certain authors and publishers, first editions and signed copies.

Hi, my name's Judith and I LOVE books! I've always been a manic reader and my 8 yr old daughter is just like me. I love mysteries the most but will read anything and everything I can get my hands on, including the teen books my son reads.I read all the Harry Potter books before he could get his sticky mitts on them! Films are fine but as far as I'm concerned nothing comes close to losing yourself in a good book!!(Just DO NOT DISTURB) emoticon

Hi! I'm Erika, I just got busy with Spark not too long ago and just joined this group. I love to read almost anything (no romance though). I switch between fiction and non-fiction. A few of my favorite authors include Martha Grimes, Preston/Child, Stephen King (of course), Ruth Rendel (Barbara Vine). I like books that make me think a bit. Hope I get some good titles to read here.

I've been a member of this team for about three weeks. I'm a 56 year old elementary school teacher in WV. I actually like my students and love being a teacher. My husband teaches at a local college, and we have a married daughter (no grandchildren, but she has two dogs and a cat). I enjoy reading, writing, taking pictures, and embroidery.

I think I missed this section when I joined. I am Mary from Coastal NC and a biker...the bicycle kind. I read literary fiction, mystery, memoirs, any good writing really. I love to seek out new authors and am currently checking out my compiled list of 250 or so for sampling. I read a lot of books and put them down because I can't hang. (I wonder if I can list two half books as one whole book for my 50 books for the year challenge?? Hmmmm...) Anyway, that's what happens when you shop around. I get some really great finds from unknowns. But I also get some great starters that have objectionable content that I can't abide by. So...such is the life of the adventurous reader! My favs from last year were: "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett...I picked it from pre-release list on Book of the Month Club. "The Year of Magical Thinking" by Joan Didion...lead off my string of six survivor books. Best little-known author of last year was Tommy Hays, writing prof. from UNC Asheville with "The Pleasure is All Mine"...awesome book with dreamy passages that I read to my group for writer's conference last fall. I am moving next month and I will be packing my books for storage and depending totally on my county library so maybe I will have some new finds to chat about.

I am a book worm and have been since I was five years old and learned to read. I read the topic of what people were reading and decided I would fit on this team. I am still plowing through John Adams, The Spark, and Four Day Win. I just finished Wench, Half-Broke Horses and The Blind Side. The only problem I have with reading is that I cannot read at night because reading does not put me to sleep and I tend to stay up all night to finish the book. I adore good writing; not into romance novels but I love historical novels and biographies. Also love mysteries. Actually, I can read the telephone book if nothing else is available.LOL

Hello everyone!

My name is Aurora. I just recently turned 18 (this last Friday) and I use to be a member of the SparkTeens site. But I moved here haha.

I do enjoy reading quite a bit. I'm currently reading a book for school called The Omnivore's Dilema by Michael Pollan. It's not really a book I'm interested in. I prefer reading dark fantasy, for example, the Twilight Series, Midnighters, Dark Magic, The Luxe, The House of Night...etc.

I'm really excited about joining this group so I hope to become friends with a lot of you guys soon. Send a message my way!

Hello all! What a great idea! A team for readers... I am one of those. It's probably my favorite pasttime. When life is smooth, I read two to three books a week. Lately its been closer to one a week or less. Not that life's not good. Just very very busy.

A wonderful thing happened to me. For my birthday, my husband - Rob the Wonderful - and his parents gave me a Kindle. I had never paid much attention to them or thought that I'd want to have one but... its one of the coolest things I've owned. Its only downside, in my opinion, is that I love to read in the bathtub and am afraid to take it in with me ;)

Right now I'm reading The Traveler's Gift by Andy Andrews. I'm loving it. I just read "Socks for Christmas" by Mr. Andrews as well. It was highly reviewed but I thought overrated. If you can pick up a copy on a clearance table, do so but I wouldn't pay full price for it.

I also recently read "The Help". Catherine Stockett. LOVED IT!!! I'm mailing it to my sister today.

Over Thanksgiving I read "Mercy" by Jodi Picoult. I got through it but didn't enjoy it so much. I've found one or two of her books is all you really need to read and then its like you read them all...

I bought - because it was on sale - and read "My Enemy's Cradle" by Sara Young. Wow. What a great book. I read the first half of it in one sitting. I highly recommend you read that one.

I also have and am reading "Simply and Inspired Life". I'm finding it very thoughtful. I just tend to put it down and then go back to it... I recommend that you try it though.

Anyway, that's that about me. Its nice to meet you all. I love the idea of this team.

I joined Spark People recently, actually stumbled upon is more apt. Been a week in here..I love it so far. I love books, I am a big fan of fictions like harry potter, michael chrichton etc., but I do love Ayn Rand and even non-fictional ones. Any good book will keep me occupied, though not an active reader.

Hi. I just joined sparkpeople again. Lost weight before and well gained it back. My favorite hobby is reading not very active but I love it anyway. I love to get new ideas about books to read. I started a new save money venture as well. I only go to the library to read new books. I already have my old faithful collection.

Hi, I'm an 60-yr-old spinster with three cats, moved from PA to SC 13 years ago, Steeler fan forever. My first love is my Lord Jesus Christ, and I teach Sunday School and Bible Studies. I love Beth Moore books and studies. I also love crochet, knitting, and making earrings. I go months without reading, when I do crafts, or will go on reading kicks for months when I do no crafts. I seem unable to maintain an interest in both simultaneously, but I am currently on a reading kick. Hate romances, but will read anything but. Can vaguely tolerate some romance only if a good murder mystery is attached.

Good Morning
I live in Spokane, WA and recently retired from my nursing position at Shriners Hospital. I am enjoying my new found freedom. I planted a vegetable garden that is producing wonderful food now and I joined the YMCA for Yoga classes and a strengthening program. I am married with 1 cat at home and 2 grown children who live on the other side of the mountains. I love to read, and my husband and I love hiking and dancing.

Hi Cookie!
Welcome to the team!
It's a small team right now, but I hope to get some more members and keep it active.
A couple of months ago I took it over when the team leader was no longer active.

Hi! I hope this team is still active. I looked for a book team that didn't have thousands of members, hoping it would be easier to make some spark "friends". I love to read just about anything. The best books I've read recently were "White Tiger" by Aravind Adiga and "Gentlemen and Players" by Joanne Harris (author of "Chocolat"). Oh, and I also reread "To Kill a Mockingbird" with my 15-year-old daughter - forgot what a good book that is.

Welcome to all the new members!

I don't read a lot of the bestsellers either, mainly because of the cost; I get a lot of my books used on eBay or Half.com, but for me, a book doesn't have to be the newest bestseller to be enjoyable. I've even found good books a few times in the dollar store, it makes me feel as if I've found a "hidden treasure".

Hi all! I read all kinds of things - classics, mystery, biography - you name it! I doubt I ever go a day without at least a few minutes of reading for pleasure.
I love wandering around the library and just pulling books at random from the stacks.
Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Hi. I just joined a few days ago. I love reading. I've been reading as much as I can ever since I learned how to read. The only time I went more than a few weeks without a book was after I had read the final Harry Potter book and when I finished it I was depressed that it was over and just didn't think anything could ever compare. Which those are still my favorite books ever. I also love the Twilight series, The Host by Stephenie Meyer, and books by Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, Rachel Hawthorne, and Lori Wick.
Currently reading: Angels & Demons by Dan Brown, Chicken Soup for the Christian Soul, and re-reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
I love to discuss books, so if anyone wants to discuss any books, I'm always up for it.

Poets and artists; kings and queens,
Old stars and hopeful beginners,
I've been where no-one's been before,
Learned secrets from writers and cooks
All with one library ticket
To the wonderful world of books.

Hey all! Just joined and looking forward to sharing the love of reading. I like to go to the bookstore and just browse around... I like to grab books now and again that aren't on the best sellers lists, hidden in the dark corners of the stores, dusty and untouched (ok maybe not dusty)... so far I haven't been disappointed... There are so many great books to be read!

Read, Read, Read....like you've never read before!!!

Welcome to the team!
I think I learned to read fairly young also. I loved it right from the start. Always had my nose in a book as a kid!

Hi Everybody!

I just joined the team. I learned to read at a very young age, and I've always loved books and language. I'm sort of picky about what I read but also somewhat eclectic in the type of books I will read.

100+ lbs to lose.

Looking for Spark-friends!

Welcome to the team all!
I love to read, I don't always have a lot of time, but I try to at least read a little bit before I go to sleep each night. And I always take a book with me when I have a doctor appointment.
