Good Evening Everyone,
I am new to SP--joined this month-and am trying to find my way around the site. I just figured out how to make the weight tracker move when weight is lost. Am working on the food tracker.

I live in Florida but am originally from MA. From Ma we moved to NJ and then to MN. Husbands job kept us moving around. A friend of my parents taught me to knit when I was 7. I used to go to her house after school for knitting lessons and to knit things. I cannot believe that my first project was a sweater as that is what I wanted to do. I remember getting so upset as Peggy--that was the friends name-kept ripping it out and making me start over. It's a wonder I still enjoy knitting. I just finished a baby blanket for our 4th grand child and now I will be doing Christmas stockings. I really would like to crochet them but have not found a pattern for crochet stockings. Perhaps someone can help me?

As for my weight, I have lost 5 lbs in about 3 weeks and would like to lose 15 more by Sept 30. After that my goal is to lose 20lbs by the new year and then 20 more by Easter.

I am excited about being on this team and look forward to meeting a lot of you and becoming friends.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Jackie

Hello Knitters:
I just joined today! I am 49, married and have three children, James 26, Heather 24 and Sam 14. I recently moved from Alameda, CA to Mt. Juliet, TN (near Nashville). Love TN, woods, hills, lots of birds, super nice people.... I miss my two older kids, living their lives in CA and the heat and humidity take some getting used to. I just have started to exercise outdoors after about a week of acclimatizing. I have 25 pounds to lose by about October.

I have been knitting since I was 6, please see my post for my current projects.

...I wonder how many calories knitting burns...?

Andy

Hi, I'm Bernice and I'm from Indiana. I have four wonderful children and a great husband. Older two children are in college, and then one in high school and one in 8th grade.

I've been knitting for about 25+ years. I taught myself the English method as I come from a family of crocheters. I'm also left-handed and relatively recently began to knit continentally which has allowed my knitting to take off because it's so much easier for me as a lefty to knit in the direction of most patterns and not have to adjust. I'm currently working on the drop stitch lace tank from Stefanie Japel's book, Fitted Knits.

I am also working on losing about 40 lbs. and am hoping that this site will help me toward that goal.

Hey Guys! My name is Diane and I live in Manotick Ontario Canada which is just south of
Canada's capital, Ottawa. I have been knitting and crocheting since I was 6 and watching what I eat since I was about 13 years old. I am now 53.

I married my second husband Richard in July 2007 and have two sons 17 and 24 and two step sons, 12 and 21. All of us struggle with our weight, particularly my step sons. I am extremely concerned about my youngest step son James who does not live with us. His mom is extremely overweight and James has terrible eating habits and gets absolutely no exercise. He currently weighs over 200 pounds.

I am hoping do lose about 25 pounds myself and just joined Spark people a few days ago. I must say I am really impressed with it so far. It is everything Weight Watchers is and more . . . and free! I have already recommended it to several friends.

My Ravelry id is dianefinkle. Love that site too!

Hi, I live in South Carolina. I've been married for 6 years and have 3 wonderful children that are a 5yo girl, 4yo boy, and 21 month old girl. I'm also a part time student. I was full time until a car accident caused some serious problems in my back and am now only able to manage part time and am looking at potentially having spinal surgery in the next few months. I'm currently working on my associates in science which I will have finished by May 2011. Once it's done I'll be taking a long break because I'm also homeschooling. This fall my oldest will start K, and next fall my middle child with be starting K.

I just finished a blanket for a good friend's newest baby. I'm currently only working on a dress for my youngest, but have another blanket and three skirts on the left of projects to do in the very near future.

My current goals are to work on losing about 50 lbs, make progress in recovering from my spinal injury (even if that means having to go through surgery for it to happen), and get more confident in my knitting again. I started knitting about 14 years ago when I was 10. I haven't touched yarn or needles or anything close to it in about 3 years. The last time I did anything with yarn I was crocheting the first of 2 blankets for the twins I was pregnant with; twins that I miscarried. Sadly it wasn't my first or last miscarriage, but since that one I haven't had it in me to open the cabinet that kept that blanket plus everything else related to knitting and crochet. It was only about 2 months ago that I finally felt able to open that cabinet again. I still haven't touched anything related to the blanket, but did start knitting again. Once I regain my confidence in my knitting ability I might try to pick up the blanket again and regain my confidence in my ability to crochet as well.

Hi, I live in Alberta Canada. I am currently single and a full-time 4th year student. I'm in school to be a special needs teacher and love it!

My current projects are two blankets for my twin siblings. Unfortunately, my sister is just under 6' and my brother is just over 6'. I'm making huge blankets for them as they live in the basement of the house and have a difficult time finding blankets large enough to fully cover them. I am also in the process of making a baby blanket and matching booties for a friend who is due at the end of the month.

Goals for myself include losing around 50 lbs (I don't feel like doing the math to figure out the exact amount), and learn how to knit cables by the end of August.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Hi - I live in Nashville TN. And boy is it hot! But I still went for a walk on my lunch hour.
I have 2 daughters. My oldest is in her 3rd year of med school and my baby works as a medicare specialist for an insurance company.
Projects: I just finished making a baby blanket for my friend's grand baby. I always have something I am either knitting or crocheting - Right now I am crocheting another blanket using all the left over yarn I have that is gathering dust. I like to make blankets, hats and scarves - I donate them to a homeless shelter here in Nashville. Keeps me busy and someone gets some use of the stuff I make.
Other than the scrap yarn blanket - I have started making a king sized quilt for my oldest daughter as a wedding gift.
New subject: Weight loss goals:
I want to lost 50 pounds by Christmas. Just started last week and I haven't been brave enough to weight myself again...but I feel better - more energy - better attitude - I am a lot more active now.
Hope I can keep it up! So far so good!!

Hi! I'm from North Carolina, homeschool 2 teenage boys and joined Sparks for the second time about 2 months ago. Went 'hiking' (1.5 mi. each way) yesterday with them for the first time in...AGES! Was pleased to see the scale move down, because I moved more than usual! Struggle mostly with being sedentary and don't really LIKE to move...thus the knitting!! However, have been on knitting 'burn-out' for the past 2 weeks and trying to motivate myself to move more...even if it's just cleaning projects around the house.

hello... been a member just over 24hrs now... I have a lot of yarn and needles calling my name but I have not had the space to let it all out in quite a while. I would still consider myself a beginner as I can only do well a scarf. In time... I live in Alabama originally from Louisiana...

Hello! I'm Sharon and just joined SP last week. I'm in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I've been knitting for 50 years since I was 9 years old (it is OK - do the math.) On Ravelry I'm Solea. Here I had to add the T (combination of my first, middle and now last name) but I see that it kind of reads as Sol Eat. I have a little pug named Purl, a cat named Suzie and an old (14 year old) Australian Shepherd named Hobbie. Purl is my walking companion (Hobbie can't go the distance any longer, sad to say).

On my needles is a pair of grey toe-up socks (mindless knitting, even though I don't need any more socks) and a twisted stitch vest in teal wool (with 15 markers so I can keep my place).

I'm so happy to be here.

I just joined Sparks this morning. Was looking on line for a on-line weight loss tracker and ended up here.
I have been an avid knitter since I was 9 and I am now 50. I call knitting my therapy. I live in the UP of Michigan, very isolated. I work part-time and am taking care of my father.
My BMI told me I need to lose 35#.
I am doing 5 pounds at a time.
Don't know how much I will post, I was in an on-line weight loss group that required posting and seems like it led to arguements.
Also am finding Sparks very confusing. Was hoping I would have an easy place to keep track of food intake but all I found was a meal plan thing which I am not interested.
I love to knit, but due to being down in the dumps I have not done much the past couple of months.
Looking forward to getting to know some new people to help me on my journey.

OK, I have been on Ravelry almost daily for some years now. I knit, crochet and weave. I knew there were many groups there dedicated to knitting and losing weight. Imagine my surprise when "a group that might interest me" popped up and it was this one! My new hobby is going to the gym. I am finding it hard to work out and knit at the same time, and weaving is out of the question.

I'm starting off with a 50 pound weight loss goal. I'd like to lose 70 total. My nutritionist has me on a 1600 calorie diet. I work out at least five hours a week. I do cardio and cross training/strength/balance with my personal trainer two of those five days a week. I am trying to get the hang of this site. So many things to do here.

Hello, my name is Chris. I joined SparkPeople about two weeks ago. No weight loss yet--still trying to learn the ropes.

I taught myself to crochet when I was 8. I tried knitting about 20 years ago but could never get the hang of it. I picked it up again about 4 years ago, got a quick lesson from my husband's grandmother, and now I'm on my way! Now I actually prefer knitting to crocheting.

I would call myself an advanced beginner. I've made cardigans, even a top down one, but they've all been pretty simple patterns.

Looking forward to being a part of the SparkTeam!

Hi, everyone! I'm fairly new to Spark (I tried getting involved about a year ago, got lost on the site and gave up). I'm new to Spark Teams, so go easy on me. ;-)

I'm not a traditional knitter. I knit using a loom. I started off with the simple looms from Knifty Knitter and gradually progressed to larger looms so that I can now make a piece 5 ft across. I've really enjoyed using a loom. I got so frustrated with needles but really enjoyed working with yarn, so I was happy to find an alternative.

Weight-wise, I have a lot to lose. My plan is to take it slowly because every time I've focused on doing it fast, the weight has all come back on. My body has to have time to adjust or it does everything it can to regain what was lost. (I would do well if we ever had a famine.)

I look forward to poking around here, getting to know all of you -- your knitting ideas and your weight losses.

Hi, I'm originally from Chicago but moved to Wisconsin 23 years ago. My Italian grandma taught me knitting basics when I was 10 (46 years ago.) I've been pretty much self-taught for everything else since then, including how to read patterns and make changes to them. I consider myself somewhere between an intermediate and expert knitter and find there's always more to learn. In fact, just last month I learned that the cast-on method my gram taught me is called "long-tail cast on." I never knew that in all these years!

Sometimes a friend and I map out a circular day trip visiting various yarn shops in the area. That is a lot of fun and very inspiring. On our last trip I picked up a new pattern and yarn for a cap-sleeved cardigan but haven't gotten it on my needles yet.

I also crochet and am in the middle of 2 afghans (one large, one baby) but it won't be long before I get another project started. I usually have several going at a time.

I've just returned to SP about a month ago after a 3 year absence. I'm glad to be back!

Hi I am from California with a long stayover in Colorado between times living in my hometown. I used to raise rabbits and goats for fiber and was once on a sheep to shawl team. But now I have trouble even finding acrylic in the local WalMart! I knit and crochet for purpose. Currently working on two graduation gift afghans.

Hi, I am new here. I used to be a huge knitter, but not so much anymore. I just don't need that many sweaters! I do like to knit, crochet, spin, etc. and have also taught craft classes.
I'm looking forward to hearing about all your projects.

Hello! I too have just rejoined SparkPeople after being away for a few years (I also had two children in the past two years, so that's kept me away), but now I'm back and I'm having a great time. I'm 30 years old and live in southern Maine, one of the best places to live in the summer, I think (not so much in the winter if you don't like snow, LOL! :) ).

It's nice to have a place to hang out and take care of me. With two kids under the age of two, a husband and live-in mother, plus seven cats, working full-time and trying to go to school, I don't have a lot of Me Time, but when I can I do try to knit and crochet to relax.

I've known the basics of knitting since I was a little kid, but I become distracted easily so I don't do much in the way of fancy stitches - garter stich for me, LOL!! :) I'm looking forward to being here - maybe someday there will be a SparkKnitting site to go along with SparkPeople! :)

Hi. I'm an overweight, 50+ year old knitter from Ohio. I work full time (really interferes with knitting time). I just re-joined Spark People after a long absence. I didn't make good use of it before, but am now resolved to use this resource to meet my weight loss goals. I have been a knitter for most of my life.

Hello all. I am a 29 year old SAHM of two girls. I have been on Sparkpeople for about 4 months and lost 12.5 pounds. I only just recently started knitting, but I really love it. I am working on learning all the stitches right now before I tackle my first project, a multi-colored scarf. I am excited to be a part of this board.

Love to knit my own socks - always have a pair in the making. And, I agree about the yarn - I buy most of mine from knitpicks.com - and every time a catalog arrives in the mail my son teases me - 'cause I always have to order another color!!

Hello all! I am new to the Knitters group, but I've been on Spark for a little over a year. I've only been knitting for about 4 years, and that on and off (cross stitch is my main hobby). I have little desire to knit sweaters, I prefer flat things, but I am teaching myself to knit a sock, because I think at the moment, there are few things in life more beautiful than sock yarn. Seriously!

Anyway, despite the spotty knitting and small projects (hats, flowers, afghan squares) I love shopping for yarn and reading about what other people are knitting. So count me in!

Hi Fellow Knitters!
I'm VisciousKnitter. My friends told me I should change my ravelry name to this because I've been known to injure myself while knitting. I've been knitting for about 4 years now. I love to knit for others and rarely knit for myself. I like to knit baby items, especially.
I live in the upper midwest. Been married for 13 years and have 3 beautiful children. I work 4 days a week as a Dental Hygienist and in my spare time, run kids from practice to games to other activities. I look forward to chatting with many of you and sharing my successes as well as my challenges!

Hi I'm from Kent, England and have been knitting since my Mum taught me about 50 years ago! I consider myself fairly expert at knitting and crochet but lousy at motivation as far as weight is concerned. I don't eat until dinner at 6pm and know that is one of the reasons I am overweight. x

Hi! I am Natalie from Montreal, Quebec. I am in my early 40s and have been knitting since my teens. In my 20s and 30s I would knit 1-2 projects a year only but for the last 4 years I've been knitting quite a lot. I even sell my creations on Etsy.

Hi, I'm Gabi and I'm 20 (21 in a month) and I'm from Newcastle in England.
I started knitting when I was 9ish and then stopped until I was 17. I would consider myself to be an intermediate probably, I knitted a teddy bear for my mother last year, the face failed horribly but everything else worked. That only happened as I didn't know how to pick up stitches from the side. Since then I have completed a sweater for my boyfriend, which I found a lot harder because my gauge changes so one arm was longer than the other. Woops
But looking forward to checking out other peoples stories.

I am current knitting dolls clothes for my granddaughter but have lots of things planned from father christmas to cardigans. I also do cross stitch, love reading and do puzzles of all types when I find the time' have lots of weight to lose (about 100 pounds) and desperately need to get fit!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

My name is Jenny and I am 20 years old and I just learned how to knit back in November 2009. I recently just finished my first ever knitted cardigan for myself, which was a huge accomplishment. I also sew, cross stitch, and do many other crafts.

I'm Kat, and I live in Oregon. I just started knitting last November and really love it. I've tried a little crochet too, but haven't done much there. So far, I've completed four simple scarves, two hats, and a shawl. Nobody warned me how addicting this is! emoticon

I look forward to hearing what everyone else is making!

i'm Adriana and i live in Israel.

i've been knitting and crocheting since i was about 8 years old. however, i hadn't really done much throughout the years.

in 2005 i lost my sight in my left eye and then i picked up some knitting needles again, just to keep me busy and using my good eye. i knitted my son, who was in the Israeli army then, a beautiful afghan.

i've been back to knitting and crocheting ever since :-)

i've just recently found a Ravelry group in Tel Aviv and i'm planning on going to my first meeting tomorrow evening. i'm really excited because yarn crafts have really gone down in Israel and it's fun to meet people who still play with yarn.

adriana

one step at at time... that's all it takes.

Hi! I'm Carolyn, from southern Minnesota. I've been knitting over 30 years now, and would have to put myself in the expert category. I can knit just about anything, but my favorite things to knit are Shetland Lace and Fair Isle-type sweaters.
