I'm 56 and full of bad habits, living on the central coast. Been overweight 21 years (my daughter is 21) and I have got to do something now if I want to be limber in my older years. I have started "hobbling" in the mornings, taking a bit longer to straighten up every month. Yikes. So off to Costco for a new bike to enjoy the summer mornings!

When I went to college, I gained about 20 pounds. Making time to get into shape was always a struggle, but now that I'm graduated I'm ready to lose it!

Hello everyone! I'm on the verge of turning 40 (next month!), and I've been having little "Aha!" moments over the last few days. My goal is to weigh what my driver's license says. Look forward to posting with all of you!

I'm 44 yrs old and tired of feeling tired all the time. I was not a heavy kid....every time a stressful situation hit as I got older I would turn to food. Working construction being on the heavy side also made me feel safer. That maybe I wouldn't get so much attention being the only female on the jobsite. Well, 23 yrs later and 90lbs heavier I've decided to put a stop to this nonsense! I started an online health & fitness class @ the local college, started taking water aerobics 2x a day as well as going for walks with the dog. I am very glad to have found this site and look forward to the journey.

I'm very glad to be here...just getting started. My boys are now 18 and 14 and I think it's time I started taking better care of myself. I'd like to lose 35-40 pounds. Plan on doing lots of walking and following a Mediterranean-type diet. I need some motivation and know I can find it here on SparkPeople. Looking forward to getting to know you!

Hello, my name is Rebekah. I am 29 years old, a wife and mother, a full time student of Literature, a vegetarian, and a writer. I have been overweight my whole life ( since I was 10), and I have lost and gained weight so much I have lost count of the times. But I went to the doctor the other day, and when I got on the scale I saw a number that scared me to death, 278. I left the doctor that day thinking, "When did I get this big? How could I let myself go for this long?" I couldn't shake the number 278 out of my head. I am relatively healthy for my size, but I know I can't hope to stay that way forever, and I must do something now. I have friends who have done or are doing the Lap Band, but I just can't feel comfortable with undergoing major surgery to loose weight myself. It scares me. I have a lot of bad eating and lifestyle habits, and only I can change them. I know this is going to be a slow battle, but I know I can do this. If I can keep my GPA up to almost a 4.0, and write a novel, I can become a healthier person. emoticon

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah and I'm 19 years old. After being a dancer since age 3 and then moving to Southern California to study fashion design (with little time left for dance), it has been really hard for me to self-motivate and exercise on my own. I went from dancing 10 hours a week to not exercising at all. I got back into dance last fall at a local community college, but the extra 10 pounds I put on after not exercising and eating whatever hasn't left me.

So I decided to finally get my butt into shape! Even when I was in better shape, I wasn't the best I could be. I've only been a member since Wednesday, but so far I'm really enjoying Spark People! I want to develop good habits for the future so that I can truly be an advocate for nutrition. And I want to break the bad habits my parents let me develop. Let's do it!

Hello! I'm 19 years old, and back to California for my summer break after just having finished my freshman year of college. Boy, did I find that freshman fifteen and then some. I can't really blame the freshman fifteen after eating unhealthy food for years and years, reinforced by my family. I'm on here looking to change my lifestyle completely, and finally not fit the "obese" category on the BMI scale. I am looking to feel better about my body, and become an overall healthier person.

At 34 soon to be 35, time seems to be flying by! Had twin boys 1 year ago and am not wanting to be "that dad." I'm somewhat active, but eat anything and everything, especially at 11 pm. I know I am trying to lose half of what most people are, but I think that is why I have put it off for so long. It was only 10 lbs, then 20 lbs, and now I feel like I am 30 lbs overwweight. It just creeps up on you. One day the metabolism of a hummingbird and the next day the metabolism of a three toed sloth. Gotta do it for the boys!!!

Hi, I'm 31 years old in May and I am working on losing 98lbs. I have never been one to stick to any diet for very long. I have just recently found out that I have some corrupted cells in my uterus that have a 60% chance of turning into cancer very very fast. The doctor told me that the more weight I lose the lower the percentage will get for me. Also I have to lose weight in order to be able to get into the infertility program my doctor would like me to join. Because of the risks of the cancer I will only have one shot to try and have a baby. So losing the weight is EXTREMELY important. That is what keeps me going on my current endeavor. I remind myself everyday that I'm not only trying to lose the weight for myself, but for a possible baby.

Hi, I'm Julie Mae! I grew up in Fremont, but I've lived in Livermore for the past 7 years. I am currently doing a women's fitness boot camp (Tuff Girl Fitness) 4 days a week, but I'm interested in joining 24 Hour Fitness here in Livermore for a more long-term fitness regime/solution. Ideally, I would like to lose about 90-100 pounds. I am definitely interested in finding a workout buddy for the gym and/or walks & hikes (with or without my dog).

I am meditating, reading your motivational messages, and hiked on a beautiful trail Sunday. You just don't realize what a life saver your messages can be. Thank You

Hello!
I'm in the L.A. area. I started getting healthy last year when I woke up at 218lbs and realized I was 18lbs over the weight number I promised myself I'd never pass. I've lost 30lbs in the last year down to 190 currently. I was almost 185 in February and then just got lazy. I've been pretty lazy since the first of this year but I still have 20-30 to go to my healthy and dream weight.

I've been using livestrong.com and jillianmichaels.com so far, but neither site is totally tailored for my specific needs. I heard about sparkpeople from a friend on Thursday and decided to try it out. So far I love it and hope this is the site which can help me lose that last 20-30. I'm recommiting to my goals and recommitting to do some of the stuff I just haven't been great about doing, like journaling and calorie counting.

Anyway, thought I'd say hi and share a little of my journey. Hope you all have a great weekend!
C

Hiya! I just started SparkPeople this past Saturday so I'm still feeling my way around. I thought I'd introduce myself to some other Californian's first, maybe at some point I can find a walking pal. I'm 32 a stay at home mom of twin 4 year old girls, and an aspiring graphic artist. I've been overweight since I was a teenager and since having my twins has gotten out of control. My dad passed away in October and my grandpa just this month as well as two other extended relatives. My health scares the bejeezus out of me and everytime I get a pain I convince myself it's a heart attack. I'm sick of feeling that way, and I'm tired of living my life in the 'fat' bubble. I want to shop at any store I like and I want to wear a tank top and shorts, or a bathing suit in public if I damn well please.

Anyway, this is me saying hello, how do you do. Oh by the way you can call me Jordi. :D

I forgot to mention I am in the Inland Empire, Ontario/Rancho area (Southern California).

Hi - I'm new and I'm in Idyllwild, elevation 6,000ft in San Jacinto Mountains above Palm Springs. It's still snowing, so hard to get out, walk, or drive to gym as car is stuck. But gives me lots of time to organize. Looking forward to meeting new friends. I am impressed by your commitment.

Hi, I'm Jenny and live in Sky Valley, about 30 mins from Palm Springs. I have been on and off diets for years but lose then gain back. I am determined to do it this time. My main problem is being organized enough to plan meals and prepare them but I have everything planned out for this week and if I can get past one week I think I can do it.

Hey everyone!! I'm down here in San Diego, actually east of San Diego in a town called Lakeside. I'm on here to lose 50 - 100lbs. I log on every day but haven't lost anything yet, I'm going to start incorporating eating better and exercise and see if that will speed up the weight loss process. I'm currently at around 270 - 275, I can't breath and tie my shoes at the same time so I bought some slip on shoes ($145 @ Nordstrom, good lord that's a lot of money). I like to blog, I like to think I'm funny, I like to think I'm good looking and if you ask my wife she'll agree with me! I need lots of motivation since I can't find any pictures of when I was skinny except for my 4th grade picture but I had a mullet to and that's just scary. I'm 28 so it was allowed back then okay!

Hello,

I usually workout after work in the evening, and I need a quick energy boost. Generally I drink a Costco "Weight Loss" shake, at 230 calories. I'm looking for something quick, high protein, cheap, and less calories. Any ideas?

Hello all! I am not really new to the team but when I joined originally, I never posted an intro post so here we are. My name is Trista and I am 26 years old. I am a single parent and a preschool teacher who is trying to lose at least 45 lbs.

And Jenni7592, SparkPeople is a wonderful site. I am enjoying myself and found myself very motivated to keep pushing along even though there were a couple of times that I wanted to just give up. I am also an emotional eater which makes it harder but we can support each other! :D

Hi everyone....my name is Jenni. I started putting on weight when I was 17 (I am now 34). Even though I was overweight I had always considered myself healthy. I had suffered no problems associated with the weight gain and had no doctors ever tell me I needed to lose weight. Because I was unhappy about my appearance I had tried several times to lose, and failed. In August 2008, the Dr.s had to deliver my son 15 weeks early because my kidneys had shut down and I was at risk for a stroke. I was diagnosed with hypertension. Since then, I have gained 35 lbs. Yes...I am a worry/emotional eater. Its how I deal with stress. And I worried A LOT about my sons life and the challenges he has faced over the last 18 months. He is doing great now...but I am worse. My goal is to lose 110 lbs. I am really hoping that Sparks can help me do that!

I second that and I've only been a member for two days! lol! The warmth and support here is VERY encouraging. My only regret is not finding out about SparkPeople sooner! Now that I have, I'm ready to get this show on the road!

I work very near El Segundo, btw. emoticon

Hello - I live in El Segundo. I am determined to shed my excess weight in this year that I turn 50 years old. The very thought of that is kind of freaky for me. I would like to lose 132 lbs over all - I had a gastric by-pass in May of 2008 and have lost over 90 lbs but the results have been under whelming when I compare my self to others I know who had it. I feel successful in that I have not gained any weight and made it under 300 lbs for the first time in many years. I am trying to hold on to feelings of success but my nature is to feel like a failure. I am hoping to meet new friends here and find support.

Hi--I'm a stay-at-home mom of a 2 1/2 yr.old who is VERY active and now I can keep up with him!! I will turn 50 this yr. and wanted to do something for myself plus prove to my overweight siblings, you CAN LOSE WEIGHT HEALTHFULLY!! My parents died in their 50s as a result of obesity and not exercising,so I want to live a long life for my child.I've lost 10 lbs. so far in the 1st month with being a sparkmember so I'm JAZZED!! Everyone is so supportive here and the teams are GREAT!!I always say--Keep on trackin' those numbers for nutrition and fitness and the numbers you see on the scale will go down eventually!! Now for this next month and the next 10... emoticon emoticon emoticon
