What I love on Spark People is that the support is unlimited! You need motivation, read up on the success stories and/or post a query and someone will be there to help you along. It is always difficult to start something new but Spark People make it so easy for us all to achieve our ultimate goals. Take it step by step: a) study the site, b) incorporate good habits from the beginning, c) start exercising, etc.
Spark People is all about lifelong lifestyle change. Yes, it's good to lose weight for one specific event, but what is important is incorporating new healthy habits in your life as of now till... What I have found is that once I stray away from this site, my weight tends to go upwards again because I am not tallying my food intake nor my exercises. Once I do reach my goal, I will continue with SP in order to maintain my weight.
Another thing, do not rely solely on the scale as a measure of success. Scales can play tricks with your mind. Do measure yourself with a tape measure and verify occasionally the progress you are making. Also, use clothing as a way to measure your progress.
