My name is Liz.
I am 54, divorced . I work full time in retail. In Feb. I moved my mom into an assisted living place not able to take care of her myself. Feeling guilty I see her everyday. The time I used to go and workout I spend with her. I do not regret one moment I spend with her. Now I going to redo my schedule and make time for myself. My plan is go and workout before work everyday. I just had knee surgery as soon as the doctor releases me that's my plan. I am looking to get healthy. I looking for a weight loss buddy to keep me accountable. Look forward to meeting my team members.

I am Jae. Married to my husband of 46 years. I have two grown children with families of their own. I have five grandchildren and one great great daughter...I also have two fur kitties who bring me joy.
I have Fibromyalgia, OsteoArthritis. and long standing depression. My husband has Dementia which has recently progressed to mid stages.Needless to say for me some days are more challenging than I can bear. It is not easy to be a caregiver and especially if the caregiver needs care. But with the Lords help I manage to get through everyday with gratitude knowing things can always be worse.
I started SparkPeople weighing 214. I now weigh 162. I would like to lose another thirty pounds. I am an emotional eater and I will always have to keep my emotions in check and learn not to lean on food for stress...
I have learned to take one day at a time. not to regret yesterday or worry about tomorrow. For as we know tomorrow is not promised to any of us.
When I am not busy taking care of my husband or the everyday decisions come up. I enjoy coloring, writing, music, and my computer...I was born with Spina Bifida ...which was difficult for my childhood but many life lessons learned along the way...This is my path that has been given to me..nothing left to do but learn to walk in joy with it.


The pain passes ~ only the beauty remains...

Hi :) I'm Ronnie. I'm 59, and starting to think about how I want to live my senior years. I have arthritis in both knees and don't want to be in wheelchair! Exercise is imperative. I moved from southern Florida to just outside New Orleans about six months ago. Before I moved I lost 74 pounds. Since the move, only 12. I haven't exercised since the move and need to get moving again. What better way than walking! I'm looking forward to being part of the group.

Howdy, I'm Melissa from Texas and I've just started walking around 30 to 50 minutes a day in my neighborhood. It's starting to get hotter and I'm working up a great sweat everyday. On rain days I do a walk away the Pounds video off YouTube. My body fat has already gone fron 32 to 29%, with some strength moves added in every other day for good measure. 8 inches are off my body and my joints that once felt very inflamed are feeling great now with daily activity and exercise. My doctors recently put me on a Healthy Heart diet and cholesterol medication followings a stroke I had last year in July. Walking has been a great workout for me to get warmed up for the day ahead.

Keep positive, keep tracking and keep moving and sweating.

Hello everyone. My name is Julie and I love to walk.
Am in a quandary at this time, however, because I also have to study for a test for work. As a consequence, I'm not walking as much as I'd like to.
Hoping that I can get this test out of the way very soon to be able to get back walking every day. Getting back to 10,000 steps a day is my ultimate goal, once I pass this test.

Hi, new member here. I saw the January step challenge and was wondering of there are other challenges? I track Km and have never tracked steps... guess I could work out a conversion, though? I just use RunKeeper to track my walks, and it tells me how many Km, not steps.

Anyway...

I am Tim from Texas. Still kind of 52 (turn 53 in 1 month, in case you want to buy me something ha ha), I was a single dad for 16 years. Now semi-retired (I quit working 4 years ago, not retired yet), and moved to a rice field in the Philippines. I was 108 kilos when I got here, and almost 4 years later was 115 kilos. Been tracking food & exercise for 4 months and I am down to 100 kilos. My only exercise has been walking. There is a little swimming & jump rope in there, but not enough to really matter. I walk 3-6 Km a day. Except today... the rain just won't stop. I though monsoon season was supposed to be over by now. :)

Hi my name is Tracey, I have been a member of Sparkpeople for a long time been on an off for a while. I need motivation. I have 2 grown Sons that at one time they were both in the US Navy but only one is now....And i am fixen to be a grandma for the 2nd time so pretty excited about that....I work full time and i help take care of my Mother in my home who has dementia and I also take care of my Father in Law in my home and he has copd and Chf the whole nine yards. So ia am going all the time i just make the wrong food choice.

So I am hoping to make a change this year.

My name is Elona and I was born and raised in Manhattan, New York City, lived in Miami, Florida for the past few decades and have just settled in Calamba, Philippines about a month ago. I have two grown children and a grandson 14 years old. I also have two dogs. They are sibling rescue dogs, 6 years old. I live with my son, his fiancee and her teenage children. Life is good here and I love it. It is rustic and the people are sweet and can be. Fortunate for me, I need to walk my dogs frequently up a steep hill 4 to 5 times daily. It's there I get my walking done. It takes about 15 min round trip to the house and back. My knees and thighs thank the big hill for making it possible for them to strengthen and become more flexible. In addition, my heart and lungs get a good work out. Walking up the hill is especially fun because the children in the neighborhood like to walk with me regularly. Sometimes 5 or 6 of them walk with me. I am a little bit of a celebrity here, because I have light skin and blue eyes. Sometimes we sing and march up and down the hill, other times we just talk and learn each other's language. Their smiling faces bring warm my heart.

So, there you have it! I am glad I found this forum and expect to enjoy my time here.

Hi all my name is Nancy I'm from Maryland in between Baltimore and DC. Big fan of the Orioles though in going to have to wait again till next for them to make the World Series. I have a Fitbit dang drawing a blank which one. Use to have the zip. Love the idea of it. I like to try and go to the gym and walk 5 days a week. Now till May I will be bowling once a week. Haven't been to the gym in about 2 weeks had dropped a can on my foot so it's been a bit sore. Saw the ortho just to make sure it wasn't broken and he said exercise at my own pace. So I'll be back at it tomorrow. Looking forward to getting to know you looks like a fun team.

My name is Debbie and I have been walking 5 days a weeks before work for 4 weeks now. I walk with a cane but at least I'm now walking. I suffered a brain injury almost 6 months ago now. I still have balance issues, problems with dizziness, and unfortunately memory problems since my accident.

I just got a new Fitbit Blaze and started wearing it yesterday. I also use my Zip. There is a huge difference in the numbers between the 2 too. My zip records FAR more steps. I wear my zip inside my hip pocket.

I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Joined SP 2009, lost 70 lbs (219-149), but continued to struggle with eating. Took a long break for personal reasons, regained around 40 lbs and back to lose it (30 to go), plus a bit more.

Hi my name is Paula I honestly go by Stress it is fitting believe me I am 53 years old *my body feels it* ... . I have 3 children ( 2 physically disabled adult kids 31 & 30 ) still living at home for their needs. And one teenager very soon to be 15 if he makes it there.. .

I live in Utah.. have all my life. Yes, the mountains are very pretty.

I am finally making it to get back on track after being gone for almost 2 years ..part of 2014 for me I had double knee replacement surgery in May of 2014 and had a rough time recovering due to extreme pain issues. And then about 3 months after being home my oldest son whom was born with Spina Bifida ended up with a small sore that turned into something worse from another source of infection Cellulitis. He ended up in a wound care clinic. Lets just say they went to far into his back and he spent a year on total bed confinement so we had to provide care from July 2014 -- January 2016. Long 2 years.. but now things are going better and I am back on track .. Excited to be a active part of this team again.

Hello. My name is Kathleen. I am married and live in Pennsylvania USA with my husband.
I am retired and our two adult children are married. So I have a lot of free time to walk.

For my June birthday my husband surprised me with a Fitbit Alta tracker! Now I can actually track my daily steps and miles. My goal is to lose 40 pounds this year. I try to walk 10,000 steps (5 miles) daily. I like to walk on a treadmill at my fitness club.
I think I can find the extra motivation I need to keep walking and pushing myself from this group.

Hello my name is Maddalynn. I'm 27 year old mother of 2 year old (will be on July 17) twins. I used to walk every day for hours sometimes but, during my pregnacy my asthma took a turn for the worse. I was in and out of the hospital for it my whole pregnacy.It just never got any better. When my kids were about 5 months old; the day after their first Christmas I ended up on a ventilator. The doctor said the blood gases in my lungs weren't moving. I was lucky && was only on it for 24 hours but, I wasn't the same after. My health && my body seemed to just go down hill from there. I've been woring with a lung specialist && seemed to have it more under control. So, I've been trying to get back out there.

Hi I'm from the UK and walk outdoors. Most days 15-20 minutes at lunchtime. Sometimes I get a bee in my bonnet and do a 5k or regular longish walks of an hour or more.

Wow Homebody67, you are a great recruiter, and I see you have been on Spark for less than a year, that is awesome all you do and lead and ....

Hi everyone, I was recruited by Homebody67 through my sparkmail, I don't know how she got my sparkname, what is your method of recruitment, Homebody67??

Since I walk a lot already, this is a great team to post to. I think walking is greatly under rated as a holistic and stimulating exercise. My DD's two dogs love to walk with me, Denver is just a puppy so only comes on the walks close to home, Frida comes on most of my walks and morning hikes.









I am a dairy farmer, well a part-time dairy farmer as my DH and DD are full time and I help out too. Working part time in a family business gives me lots of time to do what I want to while contributing to the family so they get ample time off too. I love hiking and walking and running, DH and I run 3 5k races a year in spring summer and fall, and this year we are also going to run a 10k night race in the fall. I also have tried a few short distance triathlons, I hope to do one in June. I am not really trying to get faster, just trying to keep staying in shape interesting by having an event to train for.

My name is June, I am 57 and have a sweet husband, two daughters and one son, the kids are all in their 20s. I love my life, and am thankful for the many good things I enjoy every day. I like this stage of life, still busy, still working, lots of choices, and part of a wonderful family.

I live in the Fraser Valley, British Columbia, Canada - on the Pacific West Coast

Hi everyone

My name is Marge and I have been with Spark people off and on for a few years. Now that I have retired last fall, I have the time to put "me" first and take better care of myself and live a healthy new lifestyle.

Living in Wisconsin can be kind of cold in the winter and hard to walk outdoors when it snows. So since I retired my husband and I try to get our steps in everyday even if we just walk thru some stores or the mall. I have been known to walk around my house in the evening just to reach my daily goal . I am looking forward to spring so I can get outdoors to walk..

Currently I am trying to maintain my weight between 145-150 pounds.

I lost 30 pounds from January to August of 2015. Then I slacked off and quit tracking food and exercise. I gained 13 pounds back. This January I started tracking again and have lost 7 pounds of what I regained. I am walking on the treadmill but want to get started walking outside again. I have been walking for 30 minutes a day and doing yoga every day too. The problem is I have been overeating for about a week. I want to get back on track and thought maybe joining this team would be good motivation.

Wise choices each day will get me where I want to be.

Yes I have hypothyrodism but I can lose weight. Lost 35 pounds and kept it off about a year. Gained it back over 6 months till...Now! Looking forward to losing it again.
Come back even stronger, emoticon .

Hello, my name is actually dawn. I am new to SP and I am working on a better me so I can live a more full filling life. Also what helped me get started was my cats giving me sympathetic looks and cuddling from my cats due to headaches and pain every day. My babies doesn't need a momma that is stuck on the couch or bed due to health. Yes my doctor Knows I'm starting out on exercising and dieting. They pretty much gave me books on what exercises I can do as well as books for dieting.

Hi all. emoticon for the invite! I rejoined SparkPeople last fall. I've been out of work with back & now neck issues leading to surgery on my neck in December. I've lost 22 lbs & it's really slow going these last 2 months. I'm trying to be patient & not get discouraged. emoticon Surgery ended up being more involved than the Neurosurgeon thought but I'm getting through this post operative time. I have slipped & fell on icy steps but am okay! I am able to walk (carefully) & hope that this will help melt off some pounds! emoticon 2015 was not a good year, between helping & caring for my husband during his fight with stage 4 throat cancer & neglecting myself causing my back issues to worsen despite physical therapy. Working on getting healthier one day at a time & celebrating life. I want to enjoy walks again & being able to stop & smell the roses! I want to wish everyone luck in their challenges & goals!! emoticon emoticon

I also received an invite from Homebody67 and decided to join the team. I love to walk, but during the winter months usually do walk away the pounds dvds. I will be starting a seasonal job tomorrow that will last thru April so this will motivate me to get some steps in.

emoticon emoticon Hey y'all! I am Amy from south Louisiana. Glad to join your team. I am a single, full time working mom of two teens, daughter 14 and son 13.

I go regularly to the gym and workout with a group at 5 am with Les Mills classes. I also have a FitBit Surge and try to get in 10,000 steps a day. Although some days I do fall short of it but I don't beat myself up about it.

Hi! I'm Kathy from Brandon, MB, Canada. I have been very busy over the Christmas season, and have gotten behind on my Spark activities/reporting. I would love to join your team. I have a fitbit and try to get in at least 7500 steps per day, although lately I've been trying to finish knitting a sweater for my husband (that was supposed to be for Christmas), and that has rather put a damper on my walking. I am Doris from Northeast Ohio. I love walking but don't always find time to do it. I will walk in the cold but I wish it were light out to see everything. My dog goes unless I am worried about her paws freezing. Just came back from Disney and certainly put in the steps there. Would like to get at least 10,000 steps a day. Have a great day!!!

Hi. I am Sheila. I have been Sparking for more than 5 years... made it to maintaining but back to losing again... I was invited to join this team. I use the elliptical at the gym. I count my steps on the fitbit... and am thinking I could help myself by gradually increasing my daily steps. In warm weather I enjoy walking outside, biking, and swimming. In colder weather I can walk at work as I work in a large high school. I started the walking challenge while on vacation with my mom in sunny Florida... the challenge will be to continue it in cold and damp New England, despite my arthritis and vascular concerns...but I can and will do it... I look forward to your support and I hope to support you as well...

I joined this challenge on the second, but actually started my New Year with a goal of walking at least 10,000 steps a day. This looks like a perfect team to support my goals. I am in SW Michigan, so outdoor walking is a bit of a challenge this time of year. Thankfully, I have access to treadmill and other indoor walking where I work. My hubby is trying to get back in a running habit, so he is very supportive.
