Hello! I'm Melissa and I've been dealing with chronic migraines for over 10 years. I was diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia at 32 , I'm 38. I also have Raynuads syndrome, GERD, osteoarthritis, bursitis, and have had 2 surgeries, one on my knee and one on my shoulder. I've lost over 60 pound since then thanks to my real life walking buddy and medical marijuana and CBD. I know it's controversial but for me it helped more than any drug. It got me off of 180 tramadol a month and I'm not falling down all the time. I just joined the team and look forward to getting more involved!

Hello Team, I am Linda from Missouri. Have COPD wearing 2 liters of oxygen 24/7 and in April had the aorta valve replaced and two stents inserted. Currently going to Cardio Rehab and found this team while browsing. I have been with Spark several years and have learned a lot through the years but still have excessive weight to lose in my goal to be more healthy. I am 72 years of age and my children are raised and have families of their own. I still work outside the home 3 days a week in an office setting and am an active member of our local Lion's Club plus love to play Bunco. I look forward to sharing with each of you on this team so we can all reach our individual goals.

Hello, I am Linda, 70 years old, married to wonderfully encouraging man x41 years. Strong Christian faith and nursing back ground Ö medical issues of heart stents, pre-diabetic, spinal stenosis [surgery in 12/15] with advancing idiopathic neuropathy, fibromyalgia and celiac. still walk slowly with cane but increasing instability as I loose more feeling in legs and hands. I want to maintain and improve strength and mobility and still want to loose about 30 pounds. I have not learned about "Seated exercises" and need to rebuild strength and find ways to burn enough calories to lose the weight. Glad to be here!!!

JOYS in life are the faith, family, purple/lavender and the blessing of anticipating our first grandchild due in January to daughter and sweet son-by-love that lives 2.5 hours away.

Hello Everyone
I just found this team today and happy to be here. I'm dealing with and reversing Type 2 Diabetes but I have limited mobility due to my weight on my 5'4 frame. I'm about to become an Empty Nester which will give me more time to get back into shape among other things. I do however enjoy chair workouts and I try to stand more on and off during the day.I want my mobility back there's things I want to to do that I couldn't do before like Rock Climbing , Hiking Kayaking and Spartan Workouts. My goal is to be able to run again and do a half marathon. I also realize I have to crawl before I can walk so to speak but I'm determined to reach these goals no matter how long it takes me.

Hello, I'm Martha-Ann and I'm from Yorkshire in England.
I'm an eleven year survivor from ovarian cancer and I'm doing well with my weightless but find exercise challenging due to a deteriorating spine from spondylolisthesis and spinal stenosis(arthritis of the spine).
I also have osteoarthritis in various places, knee, shoulder, wrists, thumbs, toes and ankles, and type 2 diabetes.
I'm never completely pain free and find walking difficult at times but I do walk, with lots of sits down every so often, I won't give up!
I like chair exercises too and I'm looking forward to doing this challenge and being part of the team. emoticon

Hello. I joined spark with the goal of losing weight and hopefully improving my health. My medical conditions include Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis, Type 2 Diabetes, Depression, Migraines, Fatigue, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and Raynaud's Disease. I haven't known a pain free day in over 12 years, but I will not let that stop me. I look forward to making friends and being an active member of the team.

Hi all. Would love to join this team but haven't found where to activate team on my page. Been living with mobility issues since 2003. Have had both hips replaced and getting around better than I have in a long time, but the docs still tell me to be very careful with my exercising. Do a lot of seated work to be able to work out, therapy for my hip replacement daily, and my recumbent bike. Have lost 70 lbs since I started my life change and that started before spark people. trying to maintain weight loss now. Have a great day all.

As others have said, I am so grateful that SparkPeople offers help and support for those with mobility issues and health problems...not something that all fitness places take into consideration. My name is Jennifer and I am 48, from Pittsburgh, and have been very inconsistent with exercising over the years. This is actually my fourth time resetting the day on the mobility challenge because I keep getting off-track. I have lost some weight, but have 68 pounds to go.

I am going to focus this new year on establishing and sticking to healthier habits while learning to cope more effectively with multiple chronic illnesses that impact my life on a daily basis. The ones that impact my mobility the most are fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, bursitis in my hip, and lower lumbar facet osteoarthritis. Other issues not as related to mobility include asthma, allergies, migraines, type 2 diabetes, IBS, Renaud's, GERD, autoimmune hypothyroidism, sleep apnea, as well as depression and anxiety.

Addendum: I was about to introduce myself to the group when I realized that I had started this challenge last year and then never finished it. So, here is to my 5th time attempting to do this. I am embarrassed to have to start it again after failing over and over to keep up healthy habits.

Hello Spark People. I am very happy to find this team. I am 66 years of age and am challenged with Fibromyalgia and recovering from spinal surgery.

I stepped on the scale and found I have put about 30 pounds to my already overweight body. I am a new Fitbit user. Got really excited with the numbers and really overdid the workouts. I am so sore. But I will not give up or give in. Have to learn to pace myself.

I am very grateful to find this team. We can do this.

Good evening, I just found this group and am not sure how I missed it before. I had sugery in 2005 for a brain tumor. After the surgery I ended up paralyzed on the left side of my body. Through a lot of hard work I was able to regain the use of the left side. I now have weakness on that side and foot drop.
After my husband died a month before my surgery I did a lot of emotional eating. I wish I had found this group back then because I now am at a good weight & am trying to lose the last 5 lbs. I know without SP I would not have been as successful as I am now.

Hi,

I want to become more mobile, and not use my pain as an excuse for doing less than I can. My SP friends called me Mick or Mar. I've been on SP for a few years. I have had up and down success but ready to get cracking again.

Let's do this!

Hello, Iím Pamela. I am 64, retired and live in Las Vegas. This is my second go round on this challenge. I got a lot of useful tips and exercises that work well for me when my autoimmune disease flares up.

I have been a SparkPeople member for over two years. I have gotten rid of 59 pounds to date. I am hoping to reach my 60 lb milestone soon. When I began my journey I needed to get rid of 95 pounds. My weight loss has been slow but steady. I donít diet but I am following a plan of moderation and portion control as well as low sodium, carbs, and sugar. I wanted to create a plan I could do for life, not just to lose. I have been successful in that respect and this way of eating has become second nature to me now.

I donít have a lot of support IRL so the support and encouragement I have found here at SP has become an integral part of my success.

Look forward to seeing you on the boards.

Spark on!

Being positive is a choice. My Mantra: ďEvery day may not be good, but there is something good in every day." Each morning seek the positive and you will have a good day. Always remember, ďYour only competition is YOU.Ē

My heart problems started in 1960 when I was 8 yrs. old. Got an infection around my heart. I got an infected cut toe and walking on dirt camps roads treated with black motor oil caused an infection that traveled to my heart. After some research the doctors got an heart and lung machine and preformed the first bypass surgery in Maine. I had to have it updated as I got older

My knees are not so good either. Leg pains keep me awake at night. Standing still to wash dishes and prepare meals is painful. My husband washes the dishes and I cook up a mess. Works for me !

Too bad our bodies have to be so hard on us when we want to feel young and carefree !

It has taken me a long time to get here due to health problems. I wish all of you Spark's Hugs and you too will get there too.

emoticon Howdee ladies my name is Bev and I live in a Senior Mobile Home Park in Sacramento. I have OA in both my knees. I had it only in my right knee, but that put so much pressure on my left that now I have it in both my knees and it is bone on bone. So getting around is very difficult for me, especially during winter colder months. I love the doctors telling me to walk more. Trust me, that is a joke. I can walk with a cane, but looking for a chair or something to rest my bones. Standing in one spot takes its toll, before you know it ,knees freeze up and struggling. In my house I have two walkers/rollators and at least 6 canes at very strategic locations. I force myself to go out, but it is a chore. I also still drive and have to use a leg lifter to get my leg in the car.

Beth - thanks for the help about challenges.

Deboralee - Remember that pneumonia takes 1 year to get out of the body, so you need to rest. WOW you certainly have a black cloud following you.

emoticon I'm Deboralee from Maine,

I have been with Spark from 2008. I have had lots of ups and down with my exercising. Broken ankle in a few places from walking outside. Knee replacements from falling on school playground where I use to work. I have heart problems and surgeries since a child. Recently I was at Boston, MA General for high risk surgery on heart valves that then got a pace maker because the valves got in trouble. That was last June. July I was transported back to Maine into rehab. Then I went home for 2 weeks before I was rushed back to Maine Medical for more surgery. Aspirated and got pneumonia. Back to another rehab center for awhile. Been home and getting my strength back since October. Before my heart slowed me down I was able to walk 4 miles a day. Now to the end of the driveway. I have been able to make progress again and am doing well with my heart problems as long as I take the meds. and rest when needed.

I am going through the challenge again because I like the limited mobility exercises and articles. It give me a workout that I can work to do. and supplement the days that I am not at rehab.

Spark's and my medical team call me the Energizer Bunny. emoticon

It has taken me a long time to get here due to health problems. I wish all of you Spark's Hugs and you too will get there too.

Hi, I'm not new to SP but I'm back after a loooong absence. I was doing well and then my husband became ill and my focus changed to him. That wasn't a very good idea because the saying that you have to take care of yourself.... I found out the hard way. Anyway, I'm here and I'm looking for a coach. I never had one before because I wasn't quite sure exactly what their roll would be. So, if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

Good morning to all! So glad I found this challenge. I have rheumatoid arthritis and some days are just tough to move. I have knee issues as well. I am ready to learn how to move even when I am in pain and do so safely.

Can't wait to meet others who are like me as well.

Hey Christi I feel for you. It is hard to watch your friends and others do the things you once did. I feel the same way. I wake up almost daily wondering why I am here and what my purpose is... Why was I given these cards? All I can do is find the silver lining and take it one slow step at a time,

I was so happy to see this challenge and now group. I need this more than ever. My names Debi and I have cerebral palsy so exercising is a challenge. I am also overweight and need motivation and encouragement. Now I see there are others like me who are in the same boat, and realize I am not alone. I am over 50 and want to get in better shape if for no other reason then to simply move around without pain. Will catch up with the challenges and realize I M NOT ALONE.

Hey y'all. I'm Christi from Tennessee. I'm glad I found this team. Up until last year I was pretty active. I played in several sports leagues and was active at home as well. End of December 2016 I ruptured a disc in my lower back and had surgery to repair it. Beginning of February 2017 I ruptured the same disc in my lower back (but way more severely). I had a second surgery in attempt to repair the damage. My neurosurgeon said he had never seen a rupture as bad as the one I had, and after viewing the MRI he proclaimed that he was very surprised that I did not sever my spinal cord from the rupture. He said nerves that are smashed that badly may never fully repair, but we wouldn't know until around 18 months after surgery. 14 months later and I still suffer from drop foot (unable to flex my ankle to raise my toes toward my shin) on my left foot. I have to work really hard to simply walk places and have to be careful of foot placement so that I don't lose my balance. I also now have arthritis in my entire spine. This makes basic moving in stormy weather (springtime in Tennessee) painful and difficult. I don't want to be reliant on Aleve or any other pain medicine, but on bad stormy days I have to in order to get through the work day. My physical therapist said the best thing for me to do was walk, so I'm trying to do as much as I can, which isn't much at all.

I get kind of down some days because I'm only 39 years old and am no longer able to be active as I once was. I see my friends doing all the things I love to do and can no longer do and it makes me sad. I've also gained lots of weight since the surgery and now have to figure out how to get it off without being able to do much. I can't lift, bend, stoop, balance... the list goes on and on. I know losing the weight will take some pressure off my back, but even changing diet and doing what little exercise I can doesn't seem to be helping all that much.

Here's hoping that with the warmer weather approaching I'll be able to get back in the pool and work hard all summer long. Next to walking, the pool is the place my PT wants me to be. She said either swimming back and forth or just walking in the pool and attempting to balance on my weak leg would be great. And we are all hoping that when I hit that 18 month time frame that I'll start getting some response in my foot. We know the signals are being sent there, but somewhere along the way the signal is interrupted and doesn't finish the journey to my foot.

Hi, Amy! Glad to help when I can. Navigating the website can be confusing, and if this is your first Challenge, naturally you don't know how it works. All Challenges shown follow the same format: 30 days, and just join and jump in where you are. Each Day's page will have a link to jump to the Team page, too.

I believe Coach Jen mentioned somewhere that if you run into a challenge day that is too difficult or unsuitable for you, just skip it, and the next day you will get the next day's challenge. Hmm, perhaps we should ask for a primer on Spark 30-day Challenges, or an intro article about the basics.

It's osteoarthritis that cripples my left knee, and at the end of the month, I have an appointment with a pulmonologist for a chest scan. I imagine it is really difficult for you, but I am also sure there are some things you will be able to do to improve your health. There are a lot I cannot do, but I focus on the ones I CAN do, and I concentrate on form when doing those.

I mentioned the laptop because I don't use apps, and thus have no clue how their appearance may differ.

Have a great day!

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Thank you Beth! This is cool having this separate room besides just the challenge page.
The phone app is good but I prefer the laptop version.

Hi, Amy. Yes, the Challenge has started but that's no problem. Start -- your Start Page will show your challenge and will take you to the appropriate day. When you see the Challenge wall, you can choose whether to see comments for all days or just the day you are on.

I go back and forth; sometimes I just want to see comments about my current day, other times, I skim the all-days feed.

I don't have the phone app; I am referring to the desktop/laptop version.

Good luck and enjoy!

Hi! I'm Mitzi from S. AR. I've changed my way of eating since January. I've had some back slides, but for the most part, doing fairly well. I have osteoarthritis. It's worse in my back & a lot in my hips lately. My weight doesn't help & I have a lot of fatigue. I just want to be able to work as a nurse & be able to do things w/ my kids & friends w/o being held back w/ fatigue & pain.

Hi all! The list of things I can't do keeps getting longer because now the list of things I'm medically restricted from has been added. I'm changing my focus because I need to find things I CAN do!
Bad knees slowed me down and made most exercise impossible until I discovered the pool! I was diagnosed more recently with DVT after I was hospitalized with pulmonary embolism, both lungs. Because my lungs are still trying to recover and I'm on oxygen, the pool is out. Looking for this challenge to send me on a more positive path.

Greetings, all. I am Runeshadow AKA Beth, from Ohio. I have lopsided problems. Arthritis in one knee (post-injury) affects my gait, so I developed bursitis in the opposite hip. I have a lousy lower back, too. Many exercises designed to help the back hurt my knee or are impossible, and many for the knee hurt my back or are impossible for me to do.

I have been doing chair exercises for years, but wanted to try this challenge and perhaps find new things that work for me or can be adapted. Many of the "regular" Spark Challenges just won't work for me. I walk with a cane much of the time and am focused on remaining as independent as I can. I don't drive, so I do quite a bit of walking as well as taking city buses.

For newbies, if truly interested in Chair Exercise, there are a couple of Chair Exercise Teams. Perhaps one will suit you! I like the Chair Exercise Fun Team, and there are tons of resources on the Team page.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Good Morning, I am Julie from Utah. I have arthritis in my knees and wrist/hands. I have had 3 surgeries, including a total knee replacement last spring, on my knee and surgery on my wrist about 6 years ago. And to be equal opportunity joints, the other ones are not far behind. I used to be very active and find myself sitting a lot which I know isn't good. I work at my computer all week long, usually starting around 7am and working til about 6pm. I try to get up at least 2 times per hour just to keep moving.

emoticon my name is Joyce, I am hoping this challenge will give me some good alternative exercises, I have arthritis in my knees, hips, have problems with lower back and bones pressing in wrong places. Doing some of the exercises causes much pain afterwards even after doing PT. Looking forward to this challenge.

Hello All: I'm Carol. Thank you Spark People. I'm so very glad to see this Challenge included. Because of Arthritis and Knee joint problems I have become less and less mobile. I'm becoming more and more aware of "use it or lose it." Upon arising in the morning, and until arthritis prescription takes affect I use a rollator. to walk from bedroom to the kitchen.

I've read your introductions and I am glad to hear about each all of you. I'm looking forward to success for each of us!.

Hello. My name is Nola. I have chronic arthritis in my thumbs, left knee and both hips where they meet the back bone. Some days walking is very difficult and painful. Love that SparkPeople has chair exercises for those days. Been on Spark since August 2014. Lost 37 pounds the first 6 months, then gained most of it back and now I've lost 27 pounds since September 2016. Looking forward to this challenge.

Hi, all! Till winter I was at least staying active, doing exercises I could. Over the past several months my knees, hips, back, and balance have all ganged up on me. I'm finishing up a round of PT for hip flexibility and balance, but would like to start getting in enough true exercise to help with weight loss. Good luck to us all! Lynn

Howdy, I'm Missy from San Antonio! I was working on weight loss goals but have had a few setbacks. My mobility has been limited and I can not currently walk for exercise (which was how I was loosing weight ). Since I've had to stop walking, (several months now), I've put weight on top of the weight I already needed to loose. Today I saw a recording of myself and was pretty aghast at the person I was looking at. BUT...just an hour ago I saw this challenge and got a "spark" of hope. (See what I did there?) I'm looking forward to the next 29 days of this challenge and hope to see some changes in myself :)

Hello. My name is Susan. Up until October 16, 2017 I was reasonably content with my life. I was active and on the go. Then I got hit by a car while crossing the streeet. Surgery to fix two broken bones in my left leg. Being sidelined had been a nightmare. I am fortunate to be attending Physio which I used to love. Then came the pain and swelling and more immobility. Today I woke up dreading the fact that I have to try and walk again. My only 'happy' place is when I am asleep. I also suffer from Chronic Depression and Anxiety which further affects my rehab. I try to look to the positive (SP teams really encourage this) but some days it is far out of reach. Today I also hit an all time high for me in the weight category; I have gained 30 pounds in 5+ months. Things are looking pretty bleak.

Hi! I am Sandy I was glad to find this team because my arthritis is making exercises hard to do. I have to modify most of the ones I do. I walk every day but that doesn't have anything to do with strength exercises. When I try a strength exercise I have to stop because I get muscle cramps. Ready for some new exercises and friends.
