Hello All! My name is Tashima, wife to a U.S. Army Solider and a mom to a 3 yr old boy. 1yr 1/2 ago we moved here to Italy and my allergies went crazy. The air quality for asthmatic or allergic individuals is horrible. I've had allergies since my teenage years all through college. After my husband and I got married and got Hawaii as our first duty station my allergies disappeared! I had not problems for an entire 4 yrs..then we moved to Hinesville, Ga...ugh! It got to a point where I would breakout in hives when working out so the elliptical was my best friend at 230lbs. By the time we moved to Italy I was down to 180lbs but still couldn't run or bike, etc vigorously. Finally I was given the allergy test and placed on allergy shots..just made it to maintenance! No more weekly visits...ahhhh...

This might seem odd but for the hives I was given Celt's for my hives...I can do any aerobic workout with the itches and...RUN OUTSIDE IN THE HEAT! emoticon

It was great but some of my activities and food choices came to a halt when I was diagnose with Interstitial Cystitis..but that's a whole different topic. LOL! Nothing will stop me for obtaining my goals. emoticon

Hello! My name is Phillip, I live in Eugene, OR which is no fun at all if you have allergies at the moment but overall Oregon is a nice place to be. I've tried to lose some weight a good amount of times but I decided I needed a community to help me along the way. I registered 3 years ago to the date nearly, but I never really used the site to help me, but this time it will be different. People with Allergies team seemed like a good one to get involved with sense my allergies are killing me right now.

Also to DDAMPIER, I'm also using Zyrtec but you have to be on it for awhile before you get the full benefit from it. Only home remedies I know of is hiding in a room with all the windows shut.

Hello, my name is Rebekah. I am 29 years old, a wife and mother, a full time student of Literature, a vegetarian, and a writer. I have been overweight my whole life ( since I was 10), and I have lost and gained weight so much I have lost count of the times. But I went to the doctor the other day, and when I got on the scale I saw a number that scared me to death, 278. I left the doctor that day thinking, "When did I get this big? How could I let myself go for this long?" I couldn't shake the number 278 out of my head. I am relatively healthy for my size, but I know I can't hope to stay that way forever, and I must do something now. I have friends who have done or are doing the Lap Band, but I just can't feel comfortable with undergoing major surgery to loose weight myself. It scares me. I have a lot of bad eating and lifestyle habits, and only I can change them. I know this is going to be a slow battle, but I know I can do this. If I can keep my GPA up to almost a 4.0, and write a novel, I can become a healthier person. I never had allergies until I had my son. Now, I suffer from them year round. I can't even go into the plant section at Home Depot without having a major sneezing attack. And I have a hard time with allergy medicines. If anyone has any natural allergy remedies, please let me know.

I'm Andrea from Boston, and have allergy-induced asthma. I am incredibly allergic to every single indoor and outdoor allergen under the sun. I go for shots monthly, take Zyrtec daily, and carry an inhaler. Most days I take my inhaler 20 min before I exercise and I'm good to go, even if I jog outdoors on a high pollen day!

AUNTRACHEL;
Have you tried Dove soap? I have used it for 40 years for my allergic skin. My child's allergy doctor recommended it and my husband's dermatologist recently put him on Dove.

My name is Comfort I live in upstate NY and I am a proud momma to 3 beautiful (but still drive me crazy) kid. My allergy is PIG and that is anything that comes from a pig. Pigs and I do not mesh well together. I haven't been able to eat realy pig in almost 19 years. Don't miss it but do you have any idea the kinds of founds I have found pig in and it makes it extremely difficult to find food options that are different from chicken, turkey, cow and fish. Well I wish you all well. Feel free to stop by my page. Prayers are welcome and encouraged. Let me know if I can pray for you and your success.

Hi Everyone! I'm Debbie from Western Pennsylvania. I've had allergies for as long as I can remember. I'm allergic to grasses, especially when the grass is just cut or being cut. Also many inhalants, scents, mold & mildew are big ones for me. I don't think I'm allergic to any foods (but eating Oreo cookies make me sneeze! LOL!) I'm allergic to most antibiotics & especially to Sulfa which has life-threatening implications. I think that's about it for allergies.

I need to lose 78 lbs. That seems like sooo much to me, so I'm breaking it down into 20 to 25 lb goals. I am a disabled nurse with sever arthritis in knees & spine, mild in other joints. I have a couple of disk herniations & sciatica. So exercising is hard for me often leaving me hurting for days after. That's why I'm going to start out small & slow & build on that.

Hi my name is Rachel. I have suffered from allergies for as long as I can remember. They have made my life miserable. I have so many allergies that there is no way that I could list them. One of the things that I have the most allergies to is scents on things. So perfumes and things really cause me problems. I also have a hard time with soaps. I am also very allergic to smoke. It has caused me great problems. I am also allergic to several medications. I also suffer from food allergies and environmental allergies.

Hi I hope I am doing this right! I am new to sparkpeople and am really excited that I found this site. I hope it works as well as it looks like it will. My big allergy is Milk/dairy, eggs too. The allergy to eggs isn't as bad as milk but both make my throat swell up when I eat them, or very much of them. I can eat a very little amount of both with only mild reactions (like mixed in food) but I can't really eat either by themselves. I think ice cream, REAL cheese (not the shreded stuff, thats mostly oils) and yogurts would make me need an epi pen, but so far I have gotten by with benadryl on hand at all times and just try and take it in advance if I am going out to eat. I have only been in the hospital for it once and they just gave me steroids. It makes eating difficult, and dieting/eating more healthy very hard. I didn't develop this allergy until I was older and was trying to figure out why I was so sick and suffering with migranes all the time. I figured it out when I was about 22 and had eaten a grilled cheese and was having trouble breathing. Someone sugested a dairy allergy so I cut it out for a week, and felt like a new person! No more migraines! Now if I get one I can usually think back about 12 hours and find something I ate that had milk in it somewhere. (Is so weird!) anyways if anyone has any advise on good foods to try (I still have a hard time with finding things to substitue) please let me know! Thanks, and good luck on your personal goals and health!

Sweetie from England, at your weight your actual life is at risk. Do not dispare, you can do this since you are young. Learn to walk briskly a few miles each day, beginning with one of course. As you gain strength, do other body building exercises and do not eat sweets and very small amounts of meat. There is no substitute for less food and more exercise! You will feel better about yourself after you loose that first 10 pounds. To your good health mentally and physically. joyduf www.myjumpstartdiet.com/?sid=11119

Sounds like you have a two sided problem. Try eating 1/3 of your usual amount at meals and then putting only nutritious snacks in the pantry. Cereal bars (watch the ones that have more than 6% of the Daily Required amount of fat) come in many delicious variaties and furnish value to your diet between meals. One of these or a fruit other than bananas will keep hunger away and not add to weight gain. One third at mealtime will reduce your weight naturally. All of the above worked for my husband and continues to do well if he does not eat desserts.
Hopefully this will help...joyduf www.joyduf.blogspot.com

I have your same allergies. I am much older than you. My family could not understand why I had rash all of a sudden some days. When we traveled and ate and drank on the way, I always got little tiny blisters on my face. After I was away from home working, I checked with a doctor when the rash got to be a problem. He asked if we had gotten a coke machine in the office first. We had and I stopped drinking them and the rash went away. Any bottled, carbonated drink brought the same result.
I lived on a farm. When the tomatoes, apples and much of the garden was ripe, I ended up in the doctor's office and was given a bottle of medicine, I know not what, and the rash that just stayed and got bigger went away. My mom did not know what I wss given, it was probably benadryl?? I just stay away from citric, ascorbic acid foods and even those with these added for preservatives. I will give you the only thing known to man (not doctors) that will prevent overt reaction to these...it is gensing. You need 500mg or more for acids in pepper or chocolate and sometimes it takes two a day to keep those big ulcers out of my mouth. Only the nutrition or health food stores will have a gensing capsule with enough miligrams for prevention. That 100mg on the grocery and variety store shelf won't do it.
To your comfort and good health,
joyduf

Hi, Everyone! =) I am a Mixed-Media & Makeup Artist living in Alabama with yellow snow and lots of opportunities for allergies to grow, so I have heard. I was encouraged by a group of artist who have joined this site as well. We have a family of 6, one being my mother who now lives with us. We all need to get healthy. After surfing the site and my page, seeing all the amazing advantages in place for us, like menus, grocery lists to print, recipes and more, I thought, "Why not?" So, with lists in hand, we are moving to better health and creating a new lifestyle!! Loving it!!! Woot!!!

My kid made me do it... Actually my beautiful daughter told me about this wonderful site. I love doing things with my kids. With her so far away this is a nice way to buddy up and do something together. We both want to lose weight for the same reason, our kids, (& grandkids.) I am nearing 43 and have been battling for 20 years now. Having Muscular Dystrophy hasn't helped any. I have been stuck at 190-210 since having my kids (I was 120 when I got pregnant.) My goal is to get to 140... any encouragement is GREATLY appreciated... My biggest problem is not overeating, but not being able to eat enough, or exercise enough due to my health problems including my allergies. While I have no food allergies, intollerances, but not allergies, I have severe allergies to molds, dust, and especially odors. I am glad to be here and hope I can make new friends!

Hi! I'm Angela. I'm allergic to the usual...pollen, grass, ragweed, mold, and anything with hair, fur, or feathers. I also have oral allergy syndrome (or pollen-food allergy syndrome...whatever you want to call it). I'm allergic to some tree nuts, a lot of raw fruit, and nearly all raw vegetables. I took allergy shots as a kid from ages 6-11 and then again from ages 14-18. They helped immensely the first time...second time, not so much. I've been thinking about trying them again to reduce my OAS symptoms. Has anyone had any luck with that?

hi, I am new to Sparkpeople but this is an issue I have been experimenting with. This winter I was taking over the counter allergy meds almost everyday. I cut back on foods that could be treated with pesticides etc from the grocer. I have been taking 1 tblspoon of local honey for about a month now plus I cut back on any drinks with aspartame in them. I am not sure all of this works or some of it works but I am feeling better. I just subscribed to a local cooperative that has non-drugged meats and cheeses and I hope this will also be of help.
Anyone else have some ideas?

Hi Esperance33,
I am now a full time WA resident myself. We'd been snowbirding it for 4 years before now. The spring allergies are fierce. Allegra usually does it for me and when that doesn't work, I too use Zyrtec. Have you considered getting tested to see if you're allergic to your cats? I even get allergic if a cat owner visits and I don't vacuum the couch after they leave! One thing about WA, it rains often enough that the air gets cleaned out. Definitely better than CA.

Good luck with adjusting to the Pacific Northwest.

I am a stay at home mom of 4. We homeschool our 12, 11, and 6 yo and try our best to keep the 3yo out of trouble (he's an adventurous one with no fear). We are making plans to build our own home and live off of alternative power sources as well as raise/grow some of our own food. PS I am a native Floridian who was not homeschooled and has a black thumb (as opposed to the coveted green one)

Hi my name is Borjana and I am 24. I have two children & I am engaged to their father and my boyfriend of 5 1/2 years. We live in Sacramento, CA.

I have been dealing with allergies since I was a child. I have not yet been to the allergist because it was once manageable. I have been on various allergy meds since first diagnosed (Flonase, Nasalcort, Nasacort, Claritin, Alavert, Allegra) and recently I have been taking Zyrtec which seems to help at least for now. I am more anxious now to find out exactly what I am allergic to other than pollen, weeds & grasses, and Avocado in the food category. Since July of 2009, I have had 2 or 3 upper respiratory infections with a slight case of bronchitis which starts as an allergy attack (itchy eyes, ears, & throat), so I am very anxious to get to an allergist soon

Hi!! Wow, it is great to find a place where people understand about allergies. My daughters are allergic to dairy, eggs, and peanuts. Also to dust mites, and grass pollen. Although I never let them know it, I am terrified that they will have a severe reaction. We pretty much spend all our spring/summer doing indoor activities because they get "itchy" as their eczema (which is really bad)gets worse when it gets hot. If anyone has any advice on what I can do to help them out, I would REALLY appreciate it!!

I am new to this team. I have very bad food allergies.... all fish, seafood, all nuts, a coloring and another thing we have not figured out yet. I am very careful about what I eat. I do not eat out that often but I do love to cook so that is not a bad thing. My allergies will get worse as I get older and they will start to include other things also. I had environmental allergies as a child but living in Vegas helped after all those shots and ER visits didn't. I have exercise induced asthma but I still exercise. I also have a slow heart rate that makes things fun.... getting dizzy and / or passing out is a real joy when exercising so I have to be real careful on how high I get my heart rate.

My gp just gave me a sample of it but I haven't tried it yet b/c I tend to be sensitive to side effects and haven't had a day when I could "crash" if necessary. I'd also love to know what people think.

Hi everyone, fellow allergy sufferer here. Dust and grasses for me.

Anyone else on Xzyal? I just started, haven't really had the chance to form an opinion on it yet.

No matter what you're feeling on the inside, if your outward appearance looks good, people will give you positive comments. These positive comments will help you on the inside.

Am 59 years old and have been disabled for 4-1/2+ years due to heart and lung problems, not to mention diabetic complications. Have had 2 open heart surgeries, last of which they did not give me much of a chance; have congestive heart failure and major breathing problems. Also have diabetes mellitus, type 2, with severe diabetic neuropathy of both legs and hands. Having been a business woman working in medicine all my life, am finding it very hard to be disabled and dealing with a total life change andf since moving to GA have been having horrible allergies and sinus problems, etc. After several years of being totally "on the bottom," I actually prayed to die... but, instead through the grace of God I was started on a spiritual journey that I would not give up for anything in the world; this is my first, second and third chosen activity of each and every day. I rejoined Spark in support of my niece with her Spark Program and in so doing learned lifestyle changes, getting several health issues under better control, and doing fitess plan made it possible to do more than I ever dreamed of doing again, not to mention losing weight along the way! The MOST AWESOME THING I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH BESIDES REJOINING SPARK AND ALL IT HAS TO OFFER IS THE GROWTH OF MY SPIRITUAL JOURNEY TO BEYOND WHAT WORDS CAN EXPLAIN!!!... all of which I am eternally grateful for.

Hello I am new to SP. Let's see, about two years ago I found out I am allergic to sulfur and its derivatives. Which sucks! I had to change my whole diet, I cant eat out where ever I want. I have to read labels in the stores. If I eat anything with a sulfur/derivative/preservative, my throat closes up. No wine for me on my wedding day...I am also allergic to sulfa drugs. Its horrible.
Anyone else have this allergy?

Hi, I am new here. I have enviromental allergies, but they aren't bad. In fact, I just moved to Texas, and I am less allergic to things here, so Yay!! I do have Celiac though. I noticed some others said they have it too.

Hello! *waves* I'm April and I'm 27. I've been suffering from allergies since I was in middle school. I took shots every week all through school, but then my allergies seemed to get better, so I stopped them. I've been getting a lot of sinus infections over the past 6 months, though. I'm allergic to everything except food and medicines. Pollen, dust, dander, mold, perfumes....you name it, I'm allergic to it. I live in South Carolina and the pollen count here is higher this year than it has been in 5 years or more. Everything is covered with a thick layer of yellow. As much as I hate it, my best defense is to stay inside as much as possible during the day. Going out at night isn't so bad, though. I take OTC Claritin on the bad days.

Hi, Everyone! Well, Here is DaDot. I am hitting 62 this year, have a wonderful hubby with 22 years of training to appease me under his belt; 3 natural grown-2-adultChildren with 1 grandchild finishing High School and 2 step AdultChildren, one of whom is Mothering 5 step-grandchildren. I am currently unhealthily and unhappily overweight and think it is killing me. Just found out that among all the many, many things I am allergic to, now I am gluten-intolerant (it does cause weight GAIN, I was(and still sometimes do) gaining two pounds a week from overdosing on BREAD. Many of my friends call me "Mrs. Sneezee" -in a most enduring way- due to my frequent sneezing bouts. Sleep is difficult because if it isn't my irrational breathing than some other aches and pains that wake me often and don't allow sleep to return. I survive on about 4 hours per night most of the time. Other than that, I am very glad to have found this group.

Hi I have sinus allergies and I've found that when I go swimming my allergies clear up for bout 4 hours and then they come back. I thought if I used a nettie pot that I would do the same thing but the nettie pot doesn't clear out my sinuses like swimming does. I'm curious if anybody else runs into this phenomenon.

Hi, I have sinus allergies and have taken prescription meds for years. I wonder if I have a food allergy that has caused my weight gain in the past 18 months. I'm seeing a nutritionist in about a month and was looking on the internet for a tool to track my food, water, sleep and exercise to prepare for the appointment. I found Spark! It's what I was looking for and much more.

My name is Kathy & I am from Fredericton, New Brunswick. I developed food allergies later in life (after 30) and it seemed like by the time I hit 45, it was getting worse! I've lived with wheat & dairy allergy for years but then the pollen was starting to be problematic as well.

Altho' controversial, I must say the NAET treatment has worked for me. I have been pleased with the results and can now eat lots of things I couldn't before. Now what I discover is that even tho' I can eat certain foods now, I still shouldn't! Pounds just flew on and stuck like glue!

I'm hoping others can help with alternatives to "traditional" diets.

Cheers! Kathy
