This is probably an old thread, but I think there are probably people out there who'd be interesting in some other dim sum dishes.

There are plenty of healthy dishes to eat, as long as you're up for the more "exotic" things.

There's steamed tripe, steamed veggies, har gow, siu mai, rice porridge (congee), chicken feet, steamed spare-ribs, steamed taro or turnip cake, steamed tofu, veggie dumplings, steamed rice noodles with shrimp/BBQ pork, or veggies. You can also order your own soups, stews, and rice dishes.

When I was young, I went to dim sum every Saturday with my family and we never got fat from the food there. Sure, there are fried food options, but there's also a lot of other things too. Tea is mandatory as it cuts through a lot of the grease and aids in digestion.

Hope this helps! =)

Wow - that is a challenge! Avoid anything fried? You may not end up w/ much at most dimsum places! But that really is the only way to go - steer toward the steamed and braised items that feature vegetables (excellent tip on gailan below), take just a tiny bit of each one, and be strong! Stop BEFORE you are full - the "I'm too full of dimsum" feeling can be really gross! I would love to hear about how you did and what you ate.

steamed veggie balls, they are yummy.

Never regret, regrets mean you never learned the lesson you were supposed to. Instead of getting even, make them miserable by being happy despite their attempts to rain on your parade.

My family always orders a plate of gai-lan (Chinese broccoli) sauted with garlic to go with our dim sum.

So I am going out for Dim Sum on Saturday with friends. Does anyone have any suggestions that will be on the healthier side? (Trying to avoid the golden fried dried shrimp balls!)
