Just wondering if any of you have cold-fried French Fries? You put the fries in the pot of room temperature oil and heat it to boil. Walla! Or if I say Walla Walla then we got onion rings too. hahaha

I'm gonna give it a try. I'll let you know. If it works peachy, I'm going to try doing it with sweet tator fries.

Just like those lobotomized frogs in the 19th century experiment, where the saying about frogs staying in the water that slowly rises to boiling. It is actually only true if you make them brain-dead. Duh. Amazing how often scientists tell us something and it actually is not true once you get all the facts.

But tators ain't frogs, so they couldn't leap out of the pot anyway. hahaha But then I have not tried it, so maybe I'm jumping to conclusions. Get it? I'd better hop off the internet now.

I know, I can't help it.

Here is a link for a style of cooking, baking and roasting that goes back to the beginning of recorded history, around the world. As ever, some things can only be adapted for modern use but not really improved upon. IMHO

Actually, I've cooked dry spaghetti noodles in my pressure cooker by getting the water boiling again after adding the noodles, then I snap the lid on and take it off the heat. I let it rest at least as long as the time listed on the package. Sometimes with thicker noodles I've had to finish by bringing to a boil again.

Here's a cookbook from 1933, Sunset Magazines All-Western Cook Book. Sunset came out with a recipe in the 1960's that I used to make a from-scratch Cheesecake (starting with real whole milk from a nearby dairy). It was great.

I've been utilizing internet archive for a very long time. It is an especially wonderful resource dedicated to preserving media and as well associated with libraries and universities across North America.

I posted a recipe from this magazine to the Team page, it is for Thompson Seedless Grape Pie.

I have had lots of luck getting free cookbooks at Amazon. They even have listings for Top Bestselling ebooks, two actually - one for pay and the other list for free.

Here is a link to my pinterest boards, in particular for free ebooks. I collect alot of fiction and cookbooks, but also recipes, SparkPeople pins, etc.

Have fun out there. www.pinterest.com/gcandj/books-free-

Here is a free cookbook, I got my copy free today. It is about recipes for cooking food in foil packets.

Sometimes if it isn't free these ebooks do have a free sample that may include 1-15 recipes in it.

I get nothing for sharing the links. You don't have to have a Kindle, as they have free downloadable reading applications for Android, for PC, and for tablets.

You might also want to look up onehundredfreebooks.com as well at this link:

How To Cook Everything Vegetarian by Mark Bittman. I eat mainly in a vegetarian, vegan style. It gives me a lot of ideas for Asian, Italian, Indian, Spanish, African and Creole food~

Right now I am really loving Alton Brown's "Good Eats: The Early Years" and "Good Eats: The Midde Years". Alton is my hero! But for ethnic food I love "5 Spices, 50 Recipes". It's an Indian cookbook that is filled with easy & delicious recipes and full color photos. I've used this cookbook enough I've broken the binding! Indian food is usually so healthy too since it uses a lot of vegetables, beans and legumes and it relies on those wonderful spices for flavor.

I love The Bread Bible by Rosenbaum, Chinese Food Made Easy by Ching-He Huang, and Larousse Gastronomique. Not everything is specifically recipe-related, but they've made my life so much tastier! =)

I am currently in love with The Joy of Cooking. The new edition has the good old original recipes for when you want the full flavor version, but includes information for how to cut back on the fat content. Ah, butter!

As for healthy cooking, I find myself surprised to enjoy the Cooking for Life cookbook that my hubby got to go with his "manly" Body for Life program. The recipes aren't fancy, are quick to make, and pretty tasty. It's designed for folks who never really learned to cook, so it's all pretty easy stuff. It was a good way for me to learn that I *do* like to cook and that I actually *can* cook. Now I really enjoy cooking, since I can do more than open boxes and cans of crap and warm it up!

I love the Williams-Sonoma Essentials of Baking and Williams-Sonoma Essentials of Slow Cooking. Those are both great, and they have some really interesting and unique recipes in there.
