I'm looking for our recipe of ham loaves, which I believe pre-dates the 1930 recipe on the back of Domino Sugar boxes. But until I do, here is a recipe by Deb on All recipes as it looks close.
1 pound ground ham
1 pound ground pork
2 cups cracker crumbs
1 cup milk
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon dry mustard

Cook 1 h 30 m
Ready In 1 h 50 m

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Combine ground ham and pork in a bowl; stir in cracker crumbs, milk, and eggs. Shape mixture into 14 small oval loaves. Place loaves into prepared baking dish.
Mix brown sugar, cider vinegar, water, and dry mustard in a bowl, stirring until the brown sugar has dissolved. Pour mixture over ham loaves.
Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour; flip and bake until juices run clear and an instant-read meat thermometer inserted into the center of a loaf reads 160 degrees F (70 degrees C), about 30 more minutes.

Pairs perfectly with creamed peas, thick-sliced tomato steaks, and sautéed garlic. We also recommend scalloped-pineapple and mashed potatoes and thick-sliced bread. Just saying.

NOTE: I've made my own ground meat by trimming the fat from beef or pork, and then running chopt chunks through my food-processor. Zip-zip. Also, you can lower the fat content by using low-fat pork/ham products. Just saying.

When my wife and I make ham salad for sandwiches, we use sliced ham as well as sliced chopped ham loaf (you know the mixed ham sliced up to be like deli-meat?)

This is for your personal use only, do not share this without adjusting it perhaps to your own favorite recipe? That addition of buttermilk is the secret ingredient. It might even make your mother-in-law's recipe edible. hahaha
