I just wanted to say hi again. I intended to do well with eating and exercising starting back in July but I didn't at all. Starting again. emoticon BTW, my 2 year old is still nursing constantly. Not sure how many extra calories I might need but I'll just try the range I was given and see how it goes.

Hi! I am new too. My baby is two months old.

I feel like I am constantly starving. I am trying to eat 1900 cals per day but sometimes feel it isn't enough. It is a super weird feeling to be eating so much when prior to pregnancy I was in the 1200-1500 cal range!

I plan to see how the weight loss goes this week then adjust my calories up if necessary. Glad to meet everyone!

Working my way down from 284 lbs

Hi eveyone,

I just had a new little baby boy. I'm tandem nursing this time, as my 2-yo still nurses a few times a day. I have no idea how many calories I should be eating, but I'm planning to just keep track of what I am eating for now and do a bit of light exercise (Pilates, walking) and see what happens.

I changed my sign in from tricia_v because it was a pain to type on an onscreen keyboard and the iPad is remember me impaired. I was going to do more of an orderly transition but since I decided on such a slight change, I figured I'd just do it.

Hi I am new here. My nursing little one will be 2 years old this month. He is showing no signs of slowing down (or letting me get a decent night's sleep! ;) ). My others were happy to stop at 2. Well, it is fine although I would like him to sleep longer stretches at night. I'm here to try to lose about 10 pounds. I haven't really tried since my little guy was born because I've been nervous it would affect my milk supply. He is old enough now that I don't have to worry so much. By the way, I live in Ecuador (but from the states) and here it is very common to nurse until the little one is 2 or 3 and it is not at all strange to nurse in public and there is no covering up either (by the locals). The babies here are very content nursing when they need to and being carried all the time. :)

I guess my monthly coming back means this baby (almost toddler) is not nursing quite so much now. I'll probably need to adjust my calorie tally for 300 a day from nursing. I also haven't been doing much for exercise. We moved him to his brother's room to see if he could sleep better, but he keeps me up pretty late. Maybe I'll try tracking my sleep for a while.

I agree, what a great way to handle the cookies.

I have such a hard time with social situations. We have gotten rid of trigger foods at our house so I am much more likely to make good choices. When we are at a party I end up just mindlessly snacking on things that I don't get to eat at home.

I was actually just thinking yesterday, we go to my mother in laws house every Sunday for dinner. She is an amazing Italian cook (she grew up there) and I have such a hard time there. I am waiting for my good habits to kick in. When I have been lower weights before I would make good choices and not clear my plate or take extra helpings but I am still keeping those bad habits. I'm hoping to continue to make better choices this week to make up for my lack of control last night.

That's a great way to handle the cookies!!

I am the opposite as far as social eating. I won't eat a bite in a social situation. But then I on the way home I stop by whatever grease pit and get a fatty meal....How does that make sense? It's so backwards!

Yeah cookie season has been tough.
At the same time here was something that worked. The cookies belonged to my daughter. If she ate all her dinner or cleaned her room she would ask if she could have one. Then I would ask if mommy could have one too. The result was that the whole family would have one or two cookies once a day.
It helps if you handle sweets as a rare treat. I have 10 more boxes in my freezer.
Where I really don't do well is social eating. I just keep snacking. Cake and these green sugar cookies on Friday.

Way to go on the 2 pounds! Especially with girl scout cookies around (I'm assuming).

I just realized that I have one poundish to go to get to a quarter of the way to my first goal. That is the weight I was when we got back from our honeymoon.

My first week back at work went well. I had two super hungry days where no matter how much I ate I was SOOOO hungry but I stayed just under the top of my range both days.

Down two more pound this week and we are celebrating 100 years of girl scouts tonight with my older one. Finishing up the cookie sale this week. My sitter bailed so I will try to try MOPS yet again. Busy week am really getting the soccer mom routine down.

Oh no, I'm glad they figured out what was wrong and he's on the road to recovery.

I've been doing so well with eating but then this weekend I went way over my calories thanks to piece of cheesecake from the cheesecake factory. I was so sad and was tempted to make bad choices or beat myself up over it but I decided to stick to my one meal at a time philosophy. So yay me.

It was my first day back at work today. I'm determined to stick to being healthy even with the stress of working and having two young children.

Ya'll, yesterday sucked. I don't mean it kinda didn't go my way. It. Sucked.
My brother was rushed to the ER. At the time, they didn't know if an infection that was a result of a surgery had spread or if it was an averse reaction to a medication.
Come to find out: the doctors prescribed him the wrong medication, and his body flipped the stupid out. He was SO sick. He was balled up and crying.....that is not my brother.

He finally was allowed to come home. There will another visit to the doctor today. We're hoping they don't admit him back to the hospital.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with bf. It just was a crappy day, and I need a nap.
I've got to say though, I am so thankful that my brother is going to be okay! We were pretty scared for a moment :(

Thanks! Potty training is certainly a messy endeavor, but it sure is cute when he says, "Yeah! I did it!!"

Nap schedules are really difficult to work around for play dates, etc. Now that Eli is almost 2, some of his little friends are completely done with naps. emoticon Now that's scary.

Good luck with MOPS! That sounds like a lot of fun :)

I too am not looking forward to potty training.
Sorry haven't checked in a bit. I am so busy with everything going on. This is my daughters first cookie sale.
We are staying busy I am looking into fun things to do with my little guy. He is old enough to play with other kids his age its just I am constantly trying to connect with other moms. Nap schedules don't really help any. I am planing on trying MOPS for the first time next week. Excited about that

This isn't bf related, but I'm super proud of my big boy!
Yesterday afternoon, Eli was running around naked (as with the custom in our house. Lol). He told me wanted to potty. So, we sat on the potty for a bit. Then he told me he needed a diaper. I asked him why, and he replied, "I tee-tee." He was squirming and begging for a diaper. He's done this a couple of times before where he didn't want to go on the potty and only wantedt to the bathroom in his diaper. I encouraged him to go "tee-tee" in the potty.

He wasn't thrilled, but he wasn't overly upset. I obviously don't want to push him or make it too big of a deal. I walked off to check on dinner, and when I came back he was up playing. I asked if he was done sitting on the potty, and she said, "Yup. I tee-tee. I big like Melmo." And sure enough, he did go potty in the potty like "Melmo" !!!

That was a LONG story for my kid peed on the potty. LOL! But I'm so proud that he recognized that he needed to go to the bathroom adn was able to go. That's a big step in this house! :)

Okay, I'm ending the novel now. ;)

It's FINALLY starting to feel like winter in Texas! It was a crip 38 this morning :) The afternoons have been gorgeous (between 60s up into the 80s!!). We've been spending a lot of time at the park these last few days.

BUT this is at the end of 3 solid weeks of rain :( What do you guys do to keep your nurslings active during nasty weather?

I bet the rash is from the drooling. My bff's LO was constantly fighting a rash becuase he drooled a lot. She just kept a rag on her at all times and constantly was drying his face. It did help. And he didn't drool as much when he wasn't teething.

I don't know about the cradle cap :( Sorry girl.

MRSCONTI7106, I did the same pp. I lost the first 20 lbs really quickly. That last 10 was a bear to get off, but I can say that I have been the healthiest I've ever been (eating and working out) trying to get that last 10 off. You'll get over this plateau. You're doing a great job!!

Bethysmama - I do the same thing about making goals based on weights I was at certain milestones.

I'm back on the bandwagon. I lost 25 lbs with no effort but now at 9 weeks postpartum I'm still about 10 lbs over my pre pregnancy weight.

That's a smart idea to do especially if you hit a point with no change. I admit I feel like I need to get slightly lower in my calories. I have been changing what I eat but still have yet to weed the bad stuff out of my house

Made it back to my 2nd baby pre-pregnancy weight last night. Kind of funny I use my weight at major miles stones as a progress. Next step is another 5lbs to get to my post pregnancy weight with my first, then another 15 to get to my wedding weight and another 15 to get to my pre first baby weight. Then off into uncharted territory.

Busy week what are your valentine's plans? I am taking my kids out to a cupcake shop on Tuesday

Oooh, I'm just coming up on 10 pounds. Hope I don't get stuck as well. I was stuck at 8 pounds down, so maybe that will have it out of my system. It was really discouraging.

Bethysmama, I thikn that montly measurements can be a better "scale". I mean, we have some serious hormones surging through our nursing mama bodies. It physically affects our weight, and for me, emotionally affects me.

I get stuck at each 10 pound mark as well. I'm ready to bust over that hump and meet my goal! Gotta keep being persistent. :)

I know I get in stuck too. Normally it is at like ten pounds down. I know for me I am finally going to try the monthly measurements. I think I have the most inaccurate scale.

Good morning!

I am going through something similar. I am STUCK. I can't seem to get past this hump. Then I get discouraged and wallow and gain a pound or two. I'll lose it, and the scale quits moving. So, then I wallow.
Bottom line: I need to wallow less and move more.

In other news, I started a new job. I am teaching online (my old job), but I have added a new one. I am an advocate for kids who are at-risk. I get to help kids to succeeed. :) I work at our local junior high school. I have been doing this for a few weeks now, and I'm still working on balance and scheduling, but I am IN LOVE with what I'm doing...so here's where that relates to BF. I am not pumping for my son anymore. He's going without all school day. He's 22 months old, and it wasn't a difficult transition for him. In fact, it's been harder on me than on him. Lol. The moment he sees me at 4PM, he is in want of his "Mama Milk!"

How's it going, mamas?

I've been losing and gaining the same two pounds and I am tired of it. I was feeling like life was conspiring against my efforts - but now I've decided it was actually me failing to adjust plans as needed. That means, rather than thinking, poor me, I can't do this healthy stuff, I can do something about it! That's my plan, anyway :) And for now it's making me feel much more positive!

Thanks for recommending the January Jumpstart Challenge. I have just completed week 1, and pretty happy about it. It's a real challenge some days with little ones in tow, but it has motivated me to exercise everyday and the video are pretty quick so it's actually possible to fit it in the schedule!

Hi ladies!

I'm excited about getting back on track - but I keep on hitting speedbumps. The latest is a bad cold. Oh well! I'm trying not to get annoyed and I'm hoping this will help me in the long term - if I can stay motivated through this, I'll learn better strategies, right?

:)

Congratulations on the great success so far!

That's awesome advice from WALKFIT to play with the calories and monitor milk supply and weight loss. I'm glad other people are trying to sort this out too. I'm 5'3 and also at my heaviest at 160 lbs. and the weight does cling to me. This is my second baby so I wasn't surprised this time around. This week I discovered I average 2100 calories, but eat a lot more on exercise days. My goal is to not go over 2100 and I've discovered those little treats are something that's putting me over. I've been doing weights and I can't believe how a week and a half have made a difference. My abs are flatter and I feel so strong and energized. Love that my shape is changing even if the weight isn't right now!

After I began tracking what I was eating, I would play with it a little. If I eat 100 calories less for a few days, how will it effect my supply? If my supply was fine, then would that move the number on the scale? I found that if I ate too little, then I wouldn't lose weight either. It's a very delicate balance. But as long as you're working out, finding activities that you love and eating a healthy diet, then you will have benefits. I have found that the scale can't be my only way of measuring how I'm doing, because the scale doesn't take into account that you're breastfeeding.

Good luck! You can do it!! :)

You can exercise all you want, just make sure you're eating enough and your supply should be fine.
The general rule is add about 500 calories to whatever weight loss calorie range SP gives you but that is just a guideline-some add a little less and some a little more depending on their body and exercise levels.

Good luck!

Jumping in here for the first time... I am a first time mom to a soon to be 3-month-old little girl and starting to realize that the weight isn't quite falling off the way it was promised to me if I decided to breastfeed. At 160 pounds, I am at my heaviest weight ever and would like to lose 35 pounds (I am petite, only 5'1"). I have heard that there are certain things you have to do when trying to lose weight while breastfeeding, though, to keep your supply from dropping. I have been afraid to go all gung ho with the exercise for that reason. Am I being overly cautious? I know I was too cautious about exercising while I was pregnant, which is why I gained about 20 pounds more than I wanted to. Well, that and all the ice cream I ate! Ha!

That's a great plan, CARBONCAT! I do similar plans for myself, especially in the evening. It works out really well on nights I have a lot to watch :)

Well, my plan for not pumping during the day didn't work. I ended up having to pump because I was so uncomfortable.....I only got 3 ounces too. I know he's not drinking as much since he's older. But I figure worse case scenario is that I send it in a sippy cup to nursery school to make nap time easier. :)

Welcome, Krista!!

Today is a big day at our house. My baby boy (21 months) is giving it a go at nursery school. I am a teacher. But this school year, I was very blessed to get a job working from home and teaching online. It is AMAZING! While it is the best of both worlds, financially it's not enough. A job came open at a local junior high for a case worker. I would be able to do the case work and teach and still have school hours! :) I'm really excited about the opportunity....
BUT my LO is going back to nursery school. I am in love with his teacher. In fact, she even sent me a pic this morning of Eli pushing a baby stroller, wearing a hat and cheesing it up. :)

Here's the bf kicker...I'm not going to pump for him. Well, I say that, and it's not even 11AM and I'm thinking I'm going to need to. My boobs are already hurting. At 21 months, he still nurses between 5-8 times a day. And he doesn't sleep through the night. I know this is a lot of his age. But when we are out and about he can go 6-9 hours without any milk. So, he can do it. I just worry about nap time :(

So anyway, I just wrote an essay to say that I'm super proud of my little man for being a rockstar this morning when I dropped him off. And it's not even 11AM, and I've already completed ALL of my work for today, and my house is spotless....I think I'm going to hit the Challenge video a couple of times and head out to the gym.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Krista. I'm a stay at home mom to two beautiful girls. An almost 3 year old and a 7 mos old. They are AWESOME... when they'are sleeping! :) It's a challenge. Lots of tantrums (mostly from me... lol!! kidding...!!), lots of cuddles, lots of tearing the house apart and cleaning it all up again. It's crazy... but I wouldn't change it. As you said Carboncat, it's all about family.

So, I'm new to this team. Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm currently 204 lbs and still look like I'm about 8 mos pregnant. Obviously, with a little one 7 mos old, I'm ready to lose the baby weight, the weight I gained after we got married 8 yrs ago, and the weight I gained while we were dating. All in all, amounts to about 65 lbs. Oh... and I'm turning 30 this year (in May). So, I'm not worried about turning 30 but I am gunning to drop about 30 lbs by then.

Good times :) My first goal (30 lbs is my medium long term goal) is to make it through a 9 week challenge with my EA Sports Acitve 2 (WII game). I've tried this challenge twice before and made it through 2 or 3 workouts before something interfered and I lost track. I actually started it on the 30th of December. I'm not into making resolutions, I'm of the opinion why wait? So... I no longer have an excuse to wait to lose this weight. It's time!

Good for you Carboncat!
My best friend beat cancer this year only to be told Monday that it may be back in her other breast. It's devastating. I wish I was closer to do more for her. It's wonderful you can be there for your mom.

Good morning ladies. This year is a year all about family for me. I resigned from my FT job of 8 1/2 years to be a SAHM of a 14, 10, 2 and 3 month old , an adjustment more diffcult than expected, especially with my financial in dependence (bless DH for taking one for the team). But like a said, it is a year all about family....two weeks before my daughter was born my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer and i chose to end my career not only to be home with my babies but to help my mom with whaterever she needs and to have the time to be with her. Again, right now in my life time with my family is more important than anything else. I love them so much and you just never now what may or may not happen. Every day is a blessing and should never be taken for granted. You make it what you want it to be!......even when DS empties the entire container of ranch on the floor while dealing with a baby blow out diaper emoticon

I am starting today to lose some weight. I first came on here in "06 to lose for my wedding. Two kids later, I have 15-20 to lose. I have a 5 month old and am finally able to make time. I love sparkpeople for the fact of tracking my food.
Good luck everyone.
Congrats on the new job!

I'm really proud of him, WALKFIT. He is 29 and is the most amazing husband and father. But his health is not where we need it to be. He's on blood pressure medication and says he rarely feels good. He said that he doesn't want to go into his 30's feeling like this. I am excited to cheer him to reach his goals and to help him. I definitely don't want to be a hindrance to him.

ASF619, what incredible goals! How cool that you're getting back into gymnastics. I LOVED gymnastics as a kid....but I really, really sucked at them. LOL I mean, I couldn't do a proper cartwheel. It certainly was not in my areas of talent. It's really nice having a cardio machine at home! So convenient! :)

I have just about reached my 3-month goal of losing 20lbs (thanks in part to the 10-in-10 challenge here!), and am a couple weeks ahead of schedule! Next goal will be to lose another 15, and then I'll reevaluate whether I need to start toning more or if I should lose more weight. I'm down 2 pants sizes, and am wearing a size I haven't seen since before I was married!

Got a new-to-me stationary bike last week, and I've been good about getting my cardio in, slowly increasing my time intervals. I hope to continue this throughout the year, and work on increasing the tension as well. Signed up for a free spin class to see what I should be doing, and may sign up for more classes if I like it.

My ultimate workout goal is to get back into the gym, and sign myself up for the adult gymnastics class at my kids' gym. I had done gymnastics years ago, and after signing my kids up for classes, I realized how much I miss it. Working towards getting myself into better shape all-around so that I don't end up *killing* myself when I do bite the bullet and start up again, after a 15+ year hiatus.

2012 promises to be a much healthier year for me! I hope that it's a wonderful year for all of you, as well!

CASILAYNE-I think it's great that your DH wants to lose weight too-that seems to be half the battle sometimes when you are trying to lose weight but no one else in the family is.

Good luck with your new job and your goals!

Happy New Year!! :)

One of my biggest health resolutions is to lose 20-25 lbs. That would put me at my ultimate goal weight....and then I could start planning for another LO emoticon

My husband and I have been saving (when we could) for a house the last couple of years. I would really like to bite the bullet and actually buy...or at least be close to buying by the end of the year.

I start a new job this month. I'm excited, nervous, a little down (because I won't be home as much). But it's a great opportunity that marries my teaching experience with my psychology background. I will be a case worker in our local school district. I will continue to teach online. And I actually think that I will be able to do both jobs really well, since little man will be at a nursery school (That I love :) ). I didn't feel like I was able to do anything whole-heartedly working so much from home, and then tutoring and then doing a couple of odd jobs (working at the gym and keeping a friend's kids). So, I'm excited :)

My husband wants to lose at least 50 pounds this year, and I'm excited to be on his team, be a great support and motivator.
