yes nurse before, and don't stay out too long, because newborns need to nurse on demand. You may want to try to run twice a day for shorter periods of time then once and a longer period. Also drink plenty of water, other wise you risk lowering your milk supply.

I was very slow to get back to running after my son was born. I was so excited once I was cleared to exercise at 6 wks, but when I tried to run, I felt like my organs were going to fall out. But my son loved the jogging stroller rides, so I at least tried to walk until running wasn't so uncomfortable.

The advice I do have is to try to breastfeed before you run, for 2 reasons. Your breasts won't be as heavy and won't be as likely to ache or start leaking because of stimulation. And also, I always managed to time it so that my son was hungry right after a run, and I was all sweaty and smelly. I didn't want to make him wait for me to get showered and dressed, so I'd end up trying to quickly clean off the areas he might touch. I always felt bad making him smell my fresh post-exercise aroma.

Hi -
I have a 3 week old baby girl (#3) and don't plan to start back to exercise FT until she is at least 6 weeks old but I want to plan ahead. I am a runner now and can't wait to get back into a routine. I like to run 3-4 days a week and strength train a couple times too. I am going to run a 5k race in April and a sprint Tri in August this year.

My question is about training and BFing. I didn't run with my other girls so this is new for me. anyone have advice for how to manage a training schedule with a nursing newborn?

Thanks!
