Another treadmill day yesterday. I only did 2.10 miles though. I worked in the morning so I got well over 10,000 steps in so I'm ok with that.

Hoping to get outside today but that will depend on the wind. Temps are suppose to be in the 30's but we could see 30 something mph winds which will make it feel much colder with the windchill.

Have a wonderful Friday!

Gloria-Have fun! I can't get to the team pages on my phone. I got very limited access to stuff. I used to be able to. Not sure what happened.

Treadmill yesterday was better than expected. My hip was sore afterwards but its ok this morning. Cold again today but much warmer starting tomorrow.

Have a nice Thursday!

Ugh, that freezing rain that you get there, I can't fathom that, cannot drive on ice! I rested yesterday too, got home and wrapped up my packing which was mostly done. I planned to get plenty of rest but of course I couldn't sleep at all. I don't think I will be able to check in here until I get back - not taking my PC. Maybe I can try on my phone though that doesn't always work well for me! Have a good week, stay warm and be safe on that snow and ice Becky! And I hope your hip keeps getting better!

That's good you're flying. That would be a long drive. Sounds like a busy weekend! Have fun!

I took another rest day yesterday. My hip was alot better but still sore. Frustrating to say the least. I'll see how work goes today and maybe this afternoon I'll attempt the treadmill. Just wonder if this is all caused b me going on the Elliptical last week. That's the only other thing I did different. Maybe I pushed the 10,000 feet a little too hard. Anyway, a couple of cold days ahead. Saw that we had freezing rain Monday night which left a coating of ice on everything. Driving past the bike path yesterday, it looked in bad condition. It should be fine for the weekend, but right now no.

Have a nice Wednesday!

It's an 11 or so hour drive (plus lose an hour for from central to eastern) to Orlando but we are going to fly. I leave tomorrow after lunch. 10k is Saturday, half is Sunday. I am going with two women friends, one is my best friend, the other is a Disney travel agent - I have known her for a few years, but don't know her as well. She has a jam packed itinerary for us. Thursday we do Hollywood Studios, Friday is the race expo and Epcot, Saturday is Magic Kingdom, and Sunday is Animal Kingdom. I am not sure I will do everything she has planned for us because I think I will be too tired - haha!

Did a short run yesterday, my running shoes are packed so I wore my new ones - just did three miles and got blisters - ugh! Weather was so beautiful but it was so windy. Weather.com said wind was 12 mph but I don't know, it seemed a lot worse than that and I was headed straight into it. That was kind of rough. Then I went to yoga. Keeping my fingers crossed that my periformis doesn't give me too much trouble - it's been pretty bad lately but I have been stretching a lot.

I was really hurting yesterday. The snow held off till dinnertime and it was a really nice day. It would've been a perfect day to be outside. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it. Now it's going to be dry but falling temps into the teens and single digits again for the next couple of days so I'm stuck with the treadmill again.

I'd like to say it was the outside run but my hip was already bothering me on Saturday so it may have been the weather. With Spring just around the corner, I'm expecting more aches and pains anyway. Today I may be able to get on the treadmill later but we'll see.

Gloria-your half is this weekend? How long of a drive is it?

It looks like we'll be heading to FL mid March unless things change and then it'll be mid April. All depends on my FIL's treatment schedule.

Have a wonderful day!

Happy Monday!

Becky, glad you could outside but so very sorry about your hip. Hope it was the run (maybe from changing your gait on the ice) and not the weather.

I worked all day yesterday and had a headache all day too. Still feeling that, maybe I will take some Tylenol. I wish I could take anti-inflammatories, they seem to work so much better. I feel like that could help with my RA too but every time I take Ibuprofen something bad happens (like my kidneys).

Since I worked all day yesterday I didn't get out to run and I didn't go to yoga. Weather was just gorgeous so I was kind of sorry. I worked last Saturday and Sunday, and yesterday - three days - so I can be off work for three days. And that doesn't count all of the evenings that I worked last week. What is the point of vacation time if I have to work that much just to be off. Today I will see. I have so much still to do for work before I leave on Wednesday. Good thing is I have slept well the past couple of nights. So today I am hoping to run or maybe go to yoga - running would probably be best but trying to work that in with my husband's schedule might be a pain. There is a yoga class at 4:30 as well but that probably won't work either so I will play it by ear. It is going to be really nice out.

I finally got outside yesterday. Was it a good one? No! I've been on the treadmill so much that it was difficult to run outside. The path was iffy. Parts were covered with snow and ice and others were completely clear. Afterwards my hip killed me. Not sure if it was the run or the weather or both. The weather patterns are changing now and thats usually when I hurt the most. Spring and Fall.

Today we're under a Winter Weather Advisory for snow, freezing rain and rain. They don't have a clue what we're going to get so they're covering all of their bases. If I exercise it'll have to be inside so I may just take today off and rest the hip. We'll see how this afternoon goes.

Have a nice Monday!

Becky

Gloria-Good job!

It was a lazy day yesterday. After work, we went and picked DH up at the airport. I was so tired and I was so sore. Not quite sure from what though. It may have been from the Elliptical the other day or it may be the weather. We're in an up down pattern. Plus we have precip coming and mild temps which will make it damp feeling. Then cold comes back for a day or 2 again. My goal is to run/walk outside today but that'll depend on the weather. It's not all that cold. Just not sure if it's going to be windy or not. I ate horribly yesterday which happens when I'm tired. I have to get on the scale and I'm sure those 4 lbs will be back. I hate this roller coaster I'm on. I really need to get off of it and soon.

Stress hasn't been all that bad the past few days now. I've let alot of things go. Being home alone at night wasn't as bad as I thought until yesterday. Between my stomach bothering me and my little dog not wanting to do her thing outside, made me stressed. I had to put her in her crate (which she escaped from the night before) Luckily I was done an hr early and when I came home she was still in her crate and needing to go outside. Now things are back to normal so she should be fine.

Today needs to be a 10,000 step day. I want to start the week off right!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Becky

I need a nap too. I am so tired. Haven't been getting to bed early enough because of work and trying to do too much. I need to be working right now but I have laundry to do, need to run to Fleet Feet to get some Huma, need to get my stuff packed. Ugh!

Race this morning was good. It was about 18 when I left home but a bit warmer in Nashville. My Garmin says it was 19 with a six mile per hour wind at the start of the race so there would be a windchill but honestly I don't think it was that cold or that windy. I wore a throw away sweat shirt until about a half mile in and then pitched it - i was honestly afraid that I had worn it too long because when I took it off I felt a bit sweaty so I was afraid I was going to get really cold. I was fine though. I wanted to take it really easy since I am supposedly tapering for next week so I did 1:1 intervals and kept it slow. I've done this race six times now and this was my slowest on this course, maybe even my slowest 15k, but I was happy because I didn't stop and walk a lot like I do sometimes and mile nine was my fastest. The hot chocolate at the end is so good!

Gloria-We do have some die hard runners here. All of those layers would weigh a person down. I don't know how you could get a good run in. In these extreme temps the parts that bother me the most is face and hands and even toes. I would wear a balaclava and I hated them. I can't run with something over my mouth and nose.

Yesterday was another treadmill day. I'm so sore this morning. It's going to be a rest day for me. I work and then I have to go and pick my DH up from the airport anyway. Plus dinner last night made me have a stomach ache so I didn't sleep very well. I'll need a nap this afternoon for sure. I'm going to be so glad to get everything back to normal again.

I'm still hopeful I'll be able to get a run in tomorrow sometime. As long as the temps are up and its not windy and snowing or freezing rain.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Em! Best wishes on the house! I know you will be super busy with that but keep us posted when you have a spare minute!

Becky, I used to run in the cold a lot but now I am just so adverse to cold. I don't know why. I think coldest I've run is windchill in the teens, not the kind of cold you deal with of course. We used to run weekday mornings during the week at 5 am and Saturdays and Sundays at 6 am year round, weather didn't matter. I've become such a sissy, hahaha! This morning the windchill is 9 and I was outside and thought I can do this - I was very cold but yes, tomorrow I will warm up and I don't need a ton of layers for that - that is normal winter for us, just this year it has been so very warm. Tomorrow will be cold too but not quite as cold as today because it won't be as windy.

I did see a thing about a runner in Minnesota somewhere, and I think she said the windchill was -40????? Anyway, she listed all of her layers that she had on. What a die hard runner! No way would I do that! Teens sure, single digits, if I have to, colder than zero, no way no way no way! Hibernation time! I've never liked cold.

With work I just don't have time to do a test run in these running costumes for Disney! Maybe I should just ditch the whole idea. I did two miles on the treadmill last night, one mile with the capris and dress, which I like and they fit well. Then I did a mile with the shorts and one of the skirts - they are okay but I am not sure if I can do them for the race. Just don't like the way they look. Plus, I have not got the right stuff for this - I've got a running dress, capris, shorts, two skirts (one is sequins), a shirt and none of the stuff really looks good. I've spent a fortune and none of the colors are right. And then I realized I don't have a good bra for the dress and the bra I tried was cutting in to my shoulder. It will be cool at start time and the shirt and dress are both sleeveless so I will be cold at first - so I ordered new capris in a better color and arm sleeves for the start and when will I have time to run in all of this to make sure it will work? Ugh! I have made this way more difficult than it needed to be!!!!!

Well you all, have a great Friday and a wonderful Valentine's Day!!!!

Em-Good luck with the house!

Gloria-Maybe changing stuff will help. 20's aren't too bad to run in. You warm up fast.

I've been getting 10,000 steps in most days now. I'm so tired of the treadmill. I did do the elliptical for a bit yesterday to get the rest of my steps. I didn't want to stay on it too long cuz my calves get super sore and I need to do my run/walk today. Today should be the last bitterly cold day. The weekend should be pretty decent so maybe a run on Sunday? I'm up for it for sure.

Watching the weather channel last night, it looks like warmer than normal temps for alot of the US coming up. I'm perfectly fine with that. Feb. is half over and it's just a little over a month before its Spring. An early Spring would be so nice for a change.

Gloria-the way you describe your running shorts and capris reminds me of the way I look and feel when I put my bike shorts on. i look terrible in them. I didn't wear them last year so I don't even know if they fit anymore. Unless I can get a shot for my hip, I'm afraid I'm not going to be riding the road bike this summer anyway. I hope I'm able to ride my reg. bike, otherwise I'm going to be very unhappy. You sit differently on those so I'm hopeful I can.

Have a great race this weekend!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! emoticon

Gloria- that is really weird about your account. I'm really glad you are here. It helps to keep me going and to remember sometimes to do yoga too!!

Even though I don't check in often at all it is always so nice to see you and Becky here.

- thanks for the good wishes. Got a couple more tests results for house but I have a feeling it is a go. So I have started packing I think even though I did not care for location I was looking at it and it will encourage me to have a few different areas to run in. So- that is exciting!!

and Becky- I love walking. If all I c an do is walking when I am older I will be happy with that too

Becky, Spark claims that a few years ago I deleted my account and they restored it for me. They are now deleting all accounts that are "closed." Of course, my account is not closed. They are referring to something that happened years ago when something similar happened and they and they helped me with it - so now they deemed it "closed" and said it had to be deleted for privacy laws. Well, if they would have checked they would have seen it is still an active account. It really irritates me. So far I've done nothing to build my page back up, just don't have time and my blogs are gone and my Spark Motivator award, etc. - can;t get that stuff back. Plus, if they did it once for that reason, I can see it happening again. Maybe if I change my user name they won't link it to this one and delete it again.

It's not going to be too terrible Saturday morning, I think now they are saying 23 at start time but I think it will be sunny and that will make a huge difference. A lot of people down here don't cold weather running gear and for the volunteers (and this race is very well supported with 100s of volunteers) they might not have the right clothes to be standing around outside. I do best with some lightweight layers, nothing too heavy and nothing fleece. I have heard about people get migraines from exercising in very cold weather.

I got some capris and shorts (depending on the weather) to wear for the half marathon the following weekend. Somehow I need to try those out to see if they will be okay for the race - my main thought with them is that they might fall off me. The leg bands on the shorts are kind of weird, I like the capris better, the shorts cut in and maybe me look like I have muffins coming out of my thighs under the band. I guess I am going to have to do my trials on the treadmill because it is not going to be warm enough to do that outside. Today is a run day for me, would rather go outside and do that but maybe will end up on the treadmill just so I can test those out. Last night I went to yoga. It was such a nice class!

Becky, hoping for warmer weather for you. We are only going to have a couple of days of cold, and honestly, the temps we are going to get are actually much closer to what we normally get, we have been spoiled here by a warm season. We have daffodils out, and it is way too early for that. They will probably die in the cold tonight and tomorrow night.

Gee Gloria, don't they want you on here? That is so weird. Sure would hate to have to start all over even though I'm sure alot of people have before.

I ran a race one year in February and it was so cold. I couldn't feel my finger tips. I almost quit but they finally warmed up. The wind chills were below zero. It was early on in my running and I was determined to do it. Went into the warm lodge afterwards, grabbed something to eat then walked a few blocks to my car. Within a couple of hrs of getting home, I had the worse headache ever. Migraine type pain. I blamed it on the cold and then warm. Never again!

I went on the treadmill again yesterday. Boring!!!!! It warmed up during the day so after lunch I walked the dog. It was windy though and the snow was blowing. Today and tomorrow won't be days to be out with those negative wind chills. I should go on the Elliptical for a change. We'll see how today goes.

Have a nice Thursday!

Becky

Oh Becky, your husband's trip sounds like a fiasco, very stressful for sure! Hopefully he won't have any more trouble.

Yes, SparkPeople Tech was very surprised I got my User name back and was able to log in. It was intended that the ID was deleted and they didn't expect I would figure it out and log back in. So that tells me that this could happen again and if it does, would I be so lucky as to figure it out and would I be able to get on anymore? I am not sure. I like the teams here, it is inspiring and gives me ideas and helps me if things are tough. Good support. So I think I would figure out something, new ID or something.

The 15k I am doing this weekend is the Hot Chocolate. I honestly have no business doing it since my half is the next weekend. Back just a few years ago I would have thought nothing about doing races every weekend but now I am not in that kind of shape. But I have done this one every year and I don't want to miss a year. Weather is NEVER good for this one - always very cold, often raining. This time it will be really cold again (not as cold as where you are Becky, maybe in the high teens this time, once it was 12 and once the windchill was only 5, one year it was 34 with pouring rain). They often will cut people off if they are slower paces when it is so cold because they don't want the volunteers out there too long and plus the water at the water stops will freeze. If they do that, I am not sure if I will be fast enough. I have never had a very fast time on this course.

Yesterday at 3:30 I ran outside. I wanted four or five miles but my husband was antsy to get dinner so I only did three miles. Seems like I am always having to accommodate his schedule. I know he isn't doing that intentionally but it still irritates me. I guess he thought I should just wait and go out in the dark later on. I did 1:1 intervals but my pace was pretty good, faster than usual, faster than just running. It was nice out, in the high 40s but there was a strong wind. It was too warm for gloves but I tried out my new mittens anyway - they will be handy this weekend. They are SmartWool and very cozy. My hands get so cold but they sweat too and that makes them feel even colder. These should work for colder weather.

Wow Gloria, that's strange why they did that.

I took yesterday as a rest day even though I probably should've gotten some exercise in later in the day. Had it been nice and warm and dry I would've walked outside but it's too sloppy for the little dog right now. Stressed about the plane issues my DH had. He was delayed for 2 1/2 hrs due to issues with the plane so he missed his flight from Chicago to Tampa so he had to wait for a later flight which got him into Tampa late. Got his car and got lost on the hwy. Went 30 miles out of the way. I just hope this trip gets better for him.

Today I'll have to get on the treadmill again. Expecting some snow and high winds which is bringing in really cold temps. Neg. wind chills over night into tomorrow. We haven't seen these temps in quite awhile. We have advisories out. Luckily it's short lived. Back into the 30's for the weekend. Unfortunately we're suppose to get snow this weekend also. No one is sure how much yet. Just so it doesn't cause problems when I'm suppose to go and pick my DH up from the airport.

I've been eating good except for the KFC that the kids brought over last night. At least I didn't eat poorly the rest of the day. Today should be better especially since I'm getting my exercise in.

Have a nice Wednesday everyone!

Becky

Em, wishing you good thoughts on the house!

Becky, good job on the steps! I've been eating terribly and not getting many steps - still exercising, just struggling with work and stuff. Honestly, with this job, I just have to take it day by day. Some days I am just not sure if I can take another minute.

Last night I went to yoga - good choice! It was such a good class and I felt so much better after that. Before the class my mood was very bad because of work and I was thinking I needed to just work late but instead I did yoga and I felt very strong and my mind set was better. The yoga studio where i go is more geared toward functional yoga and core work and I need a bit more than that so if things ever calm down for me at work, I will start going to the fitness center at the office during my lunch break.

Today I am going to try to run - I am thinking around 3:00 I want to take a break from work and do something - I need five miles or so, but we will see if that happens.

Oh, and just heard back from SparkPeople yesterday, they will not restore my data. They intentionally deleted it! Long story - I am a little frustrated about it but certainly that isn't the worst thing in the world. Maybe some day I will have time to build my Spark Page again - but I will never get my blogs back or my goodies or Spark Motivator Award. I don't even think I have my SparkFriends anymore.

We had sunshine yesterday. There was some melting going on too. Not enough. The wind is suppose to come tomorrow for us along with much colder temps and a little snow.

I did a treadmill walk yesterday. I did sneak in a couple of jogs but my legs were really saying no. 11,000 steps in so I'm happy. Not all on the treadmill. Today I'll rest the old legs for the most part. I have to take DH to the airport and I should swing over to my moms for a bit. This indigestion is getting annoying. I was hungry for a salad yesterday. Not a good choice. I guess I need to eat some bland food for a few days and see if that clears it up. I'm also trying to destress. Too much anxiety and I need to let go of it. I wish I was going with DH to FL but now is not the time. He will be with his brothers trying to sort things out with his dad and mom about what kind of treatment he'll get. We'll be going down there soon enough.

To live and be healthy at 102. I'm pretty sure I won't be running when I get older but exercise is part of my life and has been for quite a few years now. I have cut back but I've never quit so I'm pretty sure it's going to take something major to make me stop. I'd love to be running but walking is also nice. Whatever it is, I want to be able to enjoy it.

Have a nice Tuesday everyone!

Becky

The wind here has been howling. Terrible

House inspection tomorrow- yep we still have not bought. If the well comes back with good results - we are in. I doubt anything else is bad

Em thank you for sharing, I love that! I hope I am still running when I am 102. That is why I don't mind that I have slowed down a lot or that I often do intervals now. I don't want to tear myself up so I can't do it later!

I did four miles yesterday too, outside, it was so nice and I wore a t-shirt but that wind was crazy! It was 20 mph and I felt like it was taking my breath away! But the sun was so nice. I didn't go to yoga. I was working most of Saturday and yesterday and I had so much to do around the house that I felt like i had to skip it in order to do what I needed to. Work is going to be pretty frantic and awful this whole month and then taking off some days isn't helping. It's raining now and will a lot this week so maybe tonight, depending on work, I will go to yoga.

4 miles on the treadmill yesterday. 4 long miles!!!! I swear it takes forever. I watched the neighbors and DH snowblow. Watched the snow come down. Still boring!

Trying to decide if I'll go on the treadmill again today or wait till tomorrow. I'd love to go outside but I don't think it's going to be a very nice day for that today. If I do, it'll have to be after lunch.

Have a nice Monday!

Boy do I agree with the treadmills. I run to clear my head and doing the treadmill doesn't do that. All you're basically thinking about on the treadmill is finishing. Unfortunately I have to depend on it much more than I used to. I remember running down at the lake and being the only one down there. It was cold and there would be ice in spots but I did it. Now I can't risk the fall. I could handle the cold but with the cold these days usually comes ice too.

Today was suppose to be an outdoor run but it's snowing. We could see up to 11 inches of the white stuff. Hopefully not. The only good part about it is the temps are suppose to be in the upper 20's so the roads and bike path will be clear after all is said and done. So no excuses for me. We'll just have to see how long it snows today. They've been out plowing so if it quits by noon, I may be able to get outside this afternoon. Otherwise I'll try tomorrow.

Have a nice Sunday!

Good Morning and happy Saturday! I agree James about the treadmill, it is so boring and dull and getting outside is best, but....sometimes this weather! I will run outside in cold. I will run outside in rain. But I am not so keen on running when it is both cold AND raining, yuck, although I have done it for a few races and for group training runs where I am obligated to be there as a pacer for the training. But also if I lived where Becky lives, I doubt I would ever go out in the winter - hahahaha, I would hibernate all winter long. When I got to Michigan I run with a crew from a running store near my hometown and they posted on social media a picture today of them in the snow and I thought oh heck no! A couple of years ago I was up there and I did run with them one evening and it was not too bad really but just enough icy spots to terrify me. This winter my indoor runs have happened primarily because of my work schedule. It's dark when I leave for work. It's dark when I come home from work. The weather hasn't been too bad but the mental aspect (and this is probably more for women than men) is difficult when it comes to running alone outside in the dark.

My run this morning was with the Fleet Feet group. We did six miles, and I was happy with our pace. We did walk a couple of times. I am feeling very good abut my 10k in two weeks, the half marathon, not so much. I feel very under trained though I am sure I will finish. After the run this morning my legs feel great, my hips aren't bothering me as much as they have been and I feel good about going out and doing my run tomorrow morning. Next week is a 15k which I have no business doing but I've done it so many years in a row and I didn't want to break my streak. I usually taper the weekend before big races so I am just going to have to really take it easy next weekend. I will be there with one of my friends who hasn't trained and she will probably primarily walk it so that should help keep me from going too crazy.

Good morning! I had a great workout this morning. 4 miles run/walk with about 1 mile being jogging/running. That's the most I've done since I started again.

As for treadmills, I hate them. Much of my running enjoyment comes from being outside. Being inside on a treadmill destroys the mental aspect of my run.

Gloria- emoticon We could see anywhere from 1-whatever inches tomorrow. Every time they put us under a Watch days ahead, it gets changed. They say its on track right now, but who knows.

I used the treadmill yesterday. I pushed a little harder. I need to get outside. We will have to see how things go this afternoon. I'm planning on my Sunday run but it'll depend on the snow. Between the treadmill, walking the dog and shopping, I got my 10,000 steps in. We went to a brewery for lunch yesterday. I had Pad Thai and although it was very good, it was spicey and I've been paying the price since. Tack on the anxiety I've been feeling about other things and my stomach is burning. Not good at all.

Have a nice Saturday!

We got quite a bit of snow last night - Becky, you would be laughing at us here, quite a bit to us is probably like an inch or something. Schools are closed. But it has been so warm here this winter that the roads are fine, it's accumulated in the grassy areas but not on the roads, and they got out last night with salt and salt brine. No schools and people weren't out driving like maniacs early this morning so no problems getting in to Nashville!

Last night I got all dressed and ready to run and I couldn't find my flashlight. Oy, I need that! I don't see well at all at night. Mine is 300 lumins and helps me so much. I went on ahead and ran three miles, took another inferior flashlight and mostly I could see okay. It was really nice out, wind chill was probably around 30. It had been drizzly so I wore a baseball hat but by the time I went I was seeing more snowflakes than rain drops. I think that I shouldn't need the flashlight too much longer, daylight savings time is only a month away and I can already see it getting dark later in the afternoon.

Our weather has been really nice. I wish I would've went to the lake and tried running yesterday but I took the dog to the smaller lake instead for a walk. She needs the exercise too. It was a really nice day. I got my 10,000 steps in again. Today we're headed to Rochester to have lunch with my son and DIL so no running today. I will be able to get on the treadmill though so there will be some running done. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow afternoon before the Winter Storm hits. It could be a real mess on Sunday. It's only Friday and they have such a hard time with predicting these Winter Storms so seeing as it's so early, I'm hoping they're wrong again. At least we're not getting extreme cold. It's been mild for this time of year. We'll take it. Just so we don't have a really cold Spring.

Have a nice Friday!

13,000 steps is great Becky! Hope you continue to feel better. Some of these things seem to last awhile.

I got home from work kind of late and then had to work some more. I had decided it would have to be a rest day but at the last minute decided to go to yoga anyway even though that meant I would have to work even later. Fleet Feet group run was canceled due to lightning but I did go to yoga. It was a very core based class, that is what I need, but so HARD! I need to run OUTSIDE tonight, but I don't know when I will get home or what the weather will be. I don't want to do the treadmill. It's supposed to keep raining for a while and maybe stop in the afternoon and then snow tonight. It's 39 right now, I don't think I will run if it is raining and this cold, and I am not sure if snow will amount to anything because it has just been way too warm.

Weird.

I got on the treadmill yesterday too. Not a great workout but it was a workout. It felt like the time wasn't moving. I bumped my run pace up a little and it still dragged. I'm still not able to run alot but I'll take anything at this point. When I was finished, I changed and took the dog for her walk. Got in over 13,000 steps yesterday so all is good. I really do need to change things up a bit. When you aren't feeling great, it's not easy. I'm hoping for another warm up. I really could use it.

Have a wonderful day!

Yeah, something is wrong with my SparkPage. My ID disappeared and somehow I was able to figure out how to get it back. At first I thought I wouldn't be able to log in at all, somehow I managed to figure it out, but my SparkPage is gone and so are all of my pictures and blogs. I don't know if I am still on any teams or if I have any friends or what! I don't know if I got hacked but I did change my password.

I had to work late last night but I did get on the treadmill for about 35 minutes. My hips seems okay, it was just terrible a few days ago but I am stretching a lot.

It's not ideal but it's something! It's very rainy here and the cold will be back tomorrow. This warm weather is so strange!

Gloria-for a moment there I thought we had someone new on the page.

70's would feel so good right now. Yesterday was much colder. At least the sun was out which always helps. I have alot of crud in my head right now so I'm glad I took yesterday off. I was beginning to feel like maybe it was coming back. I don't have a great appetite right now. I just eat whatever sounds good. Raw veggies isn't it right now. I have so many and I'll end up throwing alot out I'm afraid. The 20's are here here for the week. Mabe by the weekend we'll hit 30 again but it looks like we're going to be getting some colder air from Canada. Thankfully all the big snows are staying well to the South of us. We're going to get hit eventually but hopefully it'll be short lived.

I'm going to try and get on the treadmill this afternoon. I need to do a little jogging. That's about all I can handle at this point anyway. I remember I went thru this last year too except I had more of an upper respiratory thing going on last year. It just didn't want to go away.

Take care and have a nice Wednesday!

Becky

We've been spoiled by the weather here, they were talking on the news the other day about how much warmer January was than usual. Yesterday it was 73, unbelievable. I went out and grabbed a salad at lunch time just so I could get outside for a few minutes. Glad you are kind of taking it easy Becky, sounds like your body still needs time to get over whatever you have. I know my nose has been running and I still have a little congestion, it is best if I remember to take a handful of tissues when I run but I often forget.

Ha, I forget about the ice fisherman, that doesn't happen here! I do see people out running in shorts in the winter but I am not one of them. Even in the 60s I will wear capris and a t-shirt. 80s and 90s and 100s...that's when I want to wear shorts and tanks!

Yesterday I had to work a lot, it is going to be this way for the whole month, just working a lot of hours. I wasn't going to yoga but my back and hip has been so bad and I need that, so I ended up going after all. That meant I had to work way too late after that so I got to bed late. It is going to be a fine balance this month to get everything in. My hip is still feeling better, I just need to keep stretching and rolling. I don't know what I will do tonight. I need to run but it will be raining (I meant to do it this morning but I worked too late and was too tired to get up that early). DH's game is tonight so if I use the treadmill I will have to get it done early and I am not sure if I will get home early enough for that. I could go to yoga again if I can't run but I really need to keep up with my training for the next two weeks.

My headache was back yesterday. Not as bad but as long as I didn't bend over, I was fine. I decided after lunch to head back to the lake. I wasn't sure what I was going to do. I started walking, thru in some running and just ended up walking. I was going at a pretty good clip and I felt really good. When I finished, I felt as good as I have after running that distance. My chest hurts when I run and then I cough plus my nose was running terribly. It was colder than on Sunday but still pretty nice out. Upper 30's. I was going to run on the treadmill today but I want to go shopping and get out of the house. I'm trying to stay busy. It's good for my head. Cooler weather ahead now for the rest of the week so I don't think I'll be seeing many shorts. It's so funny to go to our lake. Ice fisherman on the lake, ice skaters, people riding bikes, runners wearing shorts and t-shirts. We're very hardy here in MN!

Have a wonderful day!

Ugh, sorry about your headache Becky. But glad you can enjoy some nice weather! It was fabulous here yesterday, close to 70. I loved it, got out and did my run late in the morning. I needed six miles and started on my usual route but there was too much traffic so I took a turn to a different route and only did four miles. Though it was warm at the time, probably around 60, it was very windy so I was glad I had a t-shirt on instead of a tank top. Today it's supposed to be nice too but I have to work and I doubt I will get home early enough to get outside - and it's not a run day anyway. I would love to take advantage of the weather but since I have run two days in a row, I really need a day off - especially with my hip. I've been doing a lot of stretches and went to yoga last night. It is by no means cured but it does feel better so if I keep doing that, I hope that it will resolve itself. In fact, when I started running yesterday I was worried about it, but by the end of my run everything felt much looser and better and not as painful. I just want to be careful not to overdo it too close to my race.

Yesterday was a beautiful day! We had almost 50! Lots of shorts! I was overdressed compared to some but the wind was colder when you were running or walking into it. I was comfortable. I didn't do much running. It would make me cough and make my chest hurt so I mostly walked. Either way I was outside and it felt really good. I even took the dog for a walk afterwards.

I did end up with a pretty bad headache though. It made watching the game last night not very fun. I just wanted to come home and sleep. I got a little cranky towards the end. I watched what I ate so I didn't over eat. I forgot to grab something to drink so I ended up drinking a can of pop which I never do especially the sugary ones. When I took the dog home, I grabbed a bottle of flavored water to drink which tasted much better. Reg. water hasn't been tasting all that great since I was sick. I drink it but I don't enjoy it!

We have 1 more milder day ahead and my plan is to get outside again. It probably won't be much better running and I'm fine with that. It's just so good for the mind and mood. I've been having so many mood issues lately. Its really starting to bother me. I don't want to take them out on anyone either. So I'll get out and do what I can for now.

Have a wonderful Monday!

Everything is feeling better today, hip feels okay. I know it's better to get up early and run but I am trying to get enough rest between runs so I hardly ever do early on Sunday mornings. Plus it's a super nice day and I want to get out in the sunshine, not in the dark! I got up and dressed earlier when it was still cold so I am now overdressed I think and will need to at least change my shirt or I might overheat - of course that would be good training for Florida. Becky, are you watching the game today? We won't be watching and I will be going to yoga unless they cancel it.

I'm feeling better but I'm still off. Not sure what it is. My eyes aren't bothering me like they were so little by little I guess.

Yesterday we finally saw sunshine. What a great feeling. I got out and walked the dog. This morning it's 45 degrees. I'm definitely headed to the lake. The winds are suppose to pick up today and be quite windy which will make it feel colder than it actually is. Hoping to get to the lake before that happens. At this point, I'm just going to be glad to be outside so I'm not pushing to run alot. I will take whatever I can get today. Just being outside is what I'm looking forward to. My mood has been anything but happy lately. I have too many things on my mind and I'm worrying about things I shouldn't need to worry about. Too much time on my hands this week. Hopefully this will be a normal week for me and I can get back into a routine. No major snow storms that I know of. A bit of a cool down mid week but nothing major.

Gloria-Sounds like a good run. Disney sounds fun. I had always wanted to do that run.

Have a nice Sunday!

Hope you feel better so you can get out and enjoy the warmer weather Becky!

Today I did half marathon training at Fleet Feet and then ran by myself. Run with Fleet Feet was running straight, then I did 1:1 intervals for my solo run - walked the last mile. My legs are tired. I could have used a hot Epson salt bath but I have so much to do and so have been trying to stay active because that helps. I remembered to put on my compression socks after I showered and I will use my roller later too. Right now I am headed to Nashville to meet my friends so we can talk about our Disney trip. It's this month, wow! I don't feel I am ready as far as my training and I found out that I am in the LAST corral, ugh, so I won't have a lot of leeway to stop and take pictures with the characters. Also my hip is really bad right now, I probably need to get going with some hip exercises so I don't fall apart before the race.

I continue to take it easy and I'm tired of this. I've been watching what I eat so I don't have to worry about gaining. Just not losing. I'm working this morning. Tomorrow the temps are suppose to be in the 40's. I better feel well enough to get out! Next week doesn't look so hot.

Have a nice weekend!

Happy Friday!

Becky, sounds like you have the flu, keep resting! You need it!

Yesterday I felt off all day long, just so tired and had a bit of a headache. Today I woke up feeling great! I still have some congestion though, I wish this would go away. I didn't run yesterday, nor did I go to yoga. I went to bed early, and maybe this why I feel so much better today. Today is my regular rest day, since I "rested" yesterday, not sure what I will do today. I could go to yoga.

I may have pushed myself too much that day. I started feeling ok yesterday morning at work, but within a couple of hours my eyes felt heavy. I felt a little sick to my stomach. After work I wanted to just come home and nap which I tried to do. I think I did a little bit. I thought I got a decent nights sleep but I'm still feeling off this morning. I'll give the meds time to kick in and see how I feel from there. I hate to go to my moms if I'm not feeling well. I don't plan on staying long there. I just don't want her to get sick. What I have could be bad for her.

Gloria-with my eyes hurting, my concern is I'm teetering around a sinus headache or infection. I have just a little congestion and its way up in my sinuses. I sure hope not. Time will tell.

I'm not sure about any running at this point. I'm just taking it day by day.

Have a nice Friday! Can't believe Feb. begins tomorrow.

50 minutes, that's great Becky! I've had a bit of congestion lately, nothing like what you've had Becky, no fever or anything, nothing that I can't deal with. Then last night I woke up in the night with so much congestion, it was just awful and so now I'm wondering if I have a sinus infection. I had kind of wondered that before but now I really think so. I probably won't go to the doc, they don't do much anyway and I am limited on what kind of meds I can take, so I will wait and hope and see if it goes away on it's own.

I've been so tired this week. Haven't been to yoga this week. I worked a little last night and then hopped on the treadmill, didn't go to the group run as I had planned. I am having shoe issues right now too, that isn't helping me.

Good Morning!

It was a much better day yesterday. I pushed to get stuff done around here. I went on the treadmill later in the morning. I did some jogging but mostly walking. It was hard. I haven't done any workout since Friday or Saturday. Plus being sick didn't make it any easier. My legs hurt when I was done but I managed 50 minutes. Not bad considering I was only going to go 30. It feels good to feel good again!

I'm woking today so I'm not sure if I'll go on the treadmill again this afternoon or if I'll just take the little dog for a walk. I'll have to see how the weather is later. She'd love a walk and I do really need the fresh air.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!

Good Morning gang, another awful day at the office, I have worked late the past couple of nights and not too happy about that. I needed a few miles yesterday and ended up doing three on the treadmill, primarily because I was in a hurry and didn't have time for more - because I had to work. I should have gotten outside, it was sunny and around the mid-40s so very nice out but I wasn't sure if I could get back home before dark and didn't to deal with reflective gear, plus I had to get back on my computer ASAP. I'd like to go to yoga tonight, missed Monday but I am expected to be at Fleet Feet tonight for the group run so I don't know.

Good morning everybody! I hope yall are doing well. I walk/jogged a 5K this morning. Gradually adding more running. Slowly but surely I am getting back into shape. I am planning to run a race in February.

No fever all day yesterday. Didn't sleep well last night and had the chills again, but I'm ok this morning. I'm going to get going this morning and do stuff around here. I decided not to go to work this morning. I'll go in tomorrow.

I'm also going to try and walk on the treadmill this afternoon.

Have a nice Wednesday!

Thanks Gloria!

I'm feeling a bit better today but not much. I'll know when I'm better when I don't have to take meds for this stupid fever. I just feel wiped out. Obviously no work out again today.

Have a nice Tuesday!

Oh no, rest and fluids Becky, you know the drill! Take care and feel better.

I worked late last night so no yoga and today has already started out crazy. I am going to try to run this afternoon but not sure if I will have time - will be working late. Probably going to be bad this whole week.

Good Morning and Happy Monday!

I did NOT want to run yesterday! I was sore from Saturday (I wore new shoes that day, had planned to wear them for 4 miles and then change to my old ones but I foolishly wore them for the entire 10) and I don't know if my soreness was from that or from the fact that I hadn't gotten a long run in last weekend - probably a combination of both. I ended up not getting up early and so we went off to breakfast. I procrastinated a lot and finally told my hubby I was going but probably not going to do the full six miles. I got out there and felt good and did the six! I decided on 2:1 intervals again just because I was feeling a bit sore and I don't want to overdo it so close to my race. I was still a bit sore after that and went to yoga, still have a bit of tightness but overall my legs feel very good. For the Disney race I am doing a challenge and it is a 10k one day and a half the next day so that is why I am doing two back to back longer runs. I used to think nothing of doing that regularly, now it seems so hard!

If all goes as planned, I will go to yoga this evening.

Good morning everyody!

I walk/jogged a 5K this morning. Walked 4 minutes and jogged 1 minute for the first two miles and then walked the rest. I'm trying to hold myself back i a little because I don't want to overdo it in the beginning and have a setback.

Well, yesterday afternoon the tickle in my throat came. This morning I can feel it in my chest. I don't feel sick so I'm not sure if its a cold, or just the weather. I'm sure I'll soon find out.

I didn't do any exercise yesterday. The temps had dropped and the wind picked up so the slush was freezing. So no outside. I didn't want to do the treadmill in case I had to today. So my only exercise was work yesterday. Better than nothing. I did really well with eating until dinner. We were suppose to go out last night but my sister wasn't feeling well so we cancelled. I didn't have anything out for dinner so DH ran and picked up Chinese. I ate too much. Thats 2 days of crappy dinner meals. At least I watched what I ate prior to that so hopefully I didn't do much damage. I'll get on the scale tomorrow.

I feel like I'm in a rut now. I'm pretty sure its due to the weather. We've had snow everyday for awhile now plus little to no sun. It's a sloppy mess outside so even my poor little dog can't get out. She's bored too.

Gloria and James-Way to go on getting out there. I have to walk more than I'd like right now. But some running is better than no running to me. Plus I know I'm faster when I get outside to run and I can run more than when I'm on the treadmill.

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Becky

Happy Saturday!!!! I've been walking a bit too James but getting stronger and doing it less. I'm never gonna be a fasty but I can and will try to get back to where I was a couple of years ago.

Becky, yeah the weather definitely is a factor for colds and stuff. I think the cold weather makes me cough a lot, don't know why. I often take a cough drop when we start and that seems to help.

Today was the first day of Fleet Feet half marathon training and I will be pacing a training group for that almost every Saturday morning until the end of April. I used to do the training group at the bigger Fleet Feet stores in Nashville and that is very different from our smaller newer store (same owner). I am used to having a huge training group but today had three people. I am doing the 2:30 goal race time group. One of the guys is an experienced runner who is much faster so I don't know why he picked my group. The other one hasn't run a race in years but I can tell he needs to move to a faster group. The woman (she is a CPA like I am ), she hasn't run more than maybe six or so miles so this will be good and she is in the right pace training group I think. For our long run we are supposed to go about a minute or minute and a half slower than our race pace so I was figuring on about a 12 or 12 and a half minute mile for today - well, the two guys kept getting ahead and so we ended up running way faster than we should have. Our pace ended up being 11:31 (four miles) which is not much slower than race pace. Then I had to go out and do six more miles by myself. I decided to do 2:1 intervals for that but I was already burned out from the earlier run so I ended up walking the last mile. Not good but at least I got some good hills in today.

I was out of town at a conference this week so I was out of my routine. I had to use the hotel fitness room and I was reminded of how much I hate treadmills. Got back home yesterday and was able to do 4 miles this morning. I am still walking more than running but my pace is getting better and I am getting stronger. Next week I am going to increase my running.

I was on the treadmill again yesterday. Pushed it more since it was Friday. I was hoping to get outside yesterday afternoon but the weather prevented that. The parking lot at the grocery store was a mess. The roads are so sloppy. We should maybe see precip. this morning and then it should be dry the rest of the day. We'll see what this afternoon looks like. We're going out to eat tonight so I should get some exercise in before that. It'll help curb what I eat.

Gloria-I hope you start feeling better soon. I know that cold stuff tends to hang around for awhile. When I had it last year, I thought it would never go away. Plus I think the weather changes tend to mess with it too.

Have a nice Saturday!

Other than rain weather here has been pretty good, not too cold yesterday or today - right about at average which is a first this season since it was so warm for so long. It rained hard all day yesterday and I am still trying to get rid of this congestion and don't want the cough to get worse so I am still staying inside mostly. Ran on the treadmill last night. I really needed more miles but ended up with three. My plan calls for three but since I missed last weekend I felt I need to ramp it up a bit. Hope everyone has a nice weekend. I don't have too much planned other than our first group run at Fleet Feet for spring half marathon training. Otherwise I will be doing laundry and groceries and trying to catch up from being out of town last weekend.

Have a fabulous Friday!

Yesterday my hip was a little off. I did a little too much twisting at work. I want to get outside so bad but we keep getting this snow and it makes for very slippery conditions. Plus it hides any ice underneath. It still looks to stop for the weekend so I'm very hopeful that I'll be able to get then.

Today it's the treadmill. If by chance its not too bad, I'll try and take my dog down to the small lake for a walk. Poor thing hasn't been able to walk either due to the slushy snow. Too much salt and sand in it and not good for her paws. Plus she comes home filthy.

Have a nice Friday!

Happy Friday Eve!!!!

My treadmill was a really nice one at the time time that we bought it but that was a long long time ago. I want one of the new fancy ones but of course can't justify spending money like that. I don't use it often enough.

So is your hip okay today Becky? You got on the treadmill and you moved - you are getting your steps in, great job! I went to yoga last night. She has changed the classes up a bit and there is a bigger focus on core strengthening, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but I really want the flow and power yoga. I am hanging in there with it though, it will help me get stronger.

I need to run tonight. Weather is warmer so maybe I could go outside. My cough isn't too bad but I am still congested and worry about getting out in the cold. But it is supposed to rain a lot today and so I am not sure if getting out will work for me or not. It might end up being another treadmill run.

I can't run 14 miles on my treadmill. It won't go up that high. When I was on it early on, I made it up to 9 and then tried to get up to 10 but it either stopped or reset. I never thought about it when I was doing it.

I got on the treadmill yesterday but it was an easier workout. .10 run, .10 walk. I just wasn't feeling it and didn't want to aggravate my hip. I'm hoping I can get out Friday afternoon. The snow doesn't look to bad coming up and the temps are suppose to continue to be in the 30's. I won't do a morning attempt so as to give the City time to clear the path off and mornings tend to be frosty too which makes it slick. Either way, I do see outdoor enjoyment coming up for the weekend.

Have a wonderful Thursday! It's almost the weekend!

Happy Hump Day! Already Wednesday, this week is flying. Warming up here too, it was 22 this morning. The windchill was better too. I ended up doing the treadmill again last night. I would have liked more miles but it was DH's game night and the treadmill is in the room where the game table is at, so I ran until the guys started to show up. I need to get back outside but I MUST get rid of this congestion and cough first because I think the cold air aggravates it. I ended up doing three miles, again Garmin said the pace was good. I hope it is right! I just never know. Becky, I think I have done 14 miles on my treadmill. Sometimes it is dreadful and sometimes it is not. I play music and just try to look straight ahead and not think about it too much. I don't get as good of a workout because it messes with my gait but also the incline on my treadmill is messed up and it makes a screeching noise if I use the incline. It is very hilly here so if I am doing the treadmill, I am not getting training to run on these hills!

Gloria-How do you stay focused that long on the treadmill. 4 miles just about kills me. I managed 3.10 miles yesterday. It wasn't a good workout at all. Too much anxiety. More walking than I wanted. It looks like today might not be an outside day again. It's warming up but it's also bringing freezing rain and snow with it. Ugh!!

Coffee went ok. My sister and I have never seen eye to eye with our parents. I'm very protective of my mom. It is what it is. I will always fight for my mom even though I don't always agree with her.

Time to get moving.

Have a nice day!

Good Morning! Back to work for me. I am sorry about your sister Becky. I have a tumultuous relationship with my sister. It makes me so sad. She barely speaks to me. Hope things aren't too bad with your coffee break. And yeah Becky, you shouldn't have to keep taking care of your friend's house! That isn't right!

I ended up doing my run on the treadmill yesterday. I just didn't feel good about going out with this cough. I've got to get rid of it and the cold dry air would probably just aggravate it. There have been times when I get this cough in the winter and it stays until spring when it warms up. No thanks. So I did six on the treadmill - I think. My Garmin never cooperates on the treadmill so I never am sure but it seemed like the pace and all were about right. I was supposed to do nine on Saturday and didn't, so I really needed to do this. My 15k is in 3.5 weeks I think and my half is in 4.5 weeks and I am so not ready.

Went to yoga after my run last night. That was nice!

I didn't do anything exercise wise yesterday plus my eating was off. I was just off. The rest of the week should be back to normal though. DH was off yesterday. I usually clean which I did but I started late because I had to run an errand for my mom. Then when I was done with my cleaning, I had to go and clean my girlfriends AirBNB. Last time. I'm not going to continue this. Its getting to be a pain in the butt.

Today it's the treadmill this morning followed by coffee with my sister which I'm not looking forward to. She wants to discuss my mom and I'm very defensive about that seeing as she was never there for her in the past. Not until my mom was alone. I have issues about always having to do things for my parents and brother while she stayed away. Many times for a month or more and she lived maybe 2 miles away. She admits she didn't get along with my mom. Now she feels like she wants to control her. Guilt? Maybe. My mom doesn't like it and I always get in the middle of it. I need this treadmill workout to get rid of anxiety and then I'm hoping the weather is as nice as yesterday so I can take my dog out for a nice walk.

Have a nice day!

Becky

Happy Monday! Wind chill is 14. Winter has FINALLY arrived! I need to go out for a run but have been procrastinating. I still have a cough and congestion, not sure how I will breathe in cold like that. It snowed here but it has been so warm that it all just melted or evaporated. Nothing on the ground.

We went to the Smokey Mountains for the weekend, just got home. Now I am faced with all of the laundry and stuff to do to get ready for the work week. I am really tired too. I was going to try to run there. We stayed in a cabin and we've stayed in the same cabin a few times but I had forgotten how curvy and hill and narrow the roads are where we stay and no way could I run there - too dangerous. So I could have driven in to town to run but didn't even feel comfortable driving myself out of there to do that and I didn't want to bother hubby to get up early and drive me there. Too bad because the weather was really good.

I had a really nice treadmill workout yesterday. In fact the day was pretty good. The game was great last night. I made a nice meal for dinner.

Not sure about today. Last week I cleaned on Monday and took it as a rest day and I was able to exercise more during the week. DH is home today because of the holiday and I have to clean my friends AirBNB again so I may do the same again this week. I'd much rather get it out of the way so I don't have to worry about it the rest of the week.

I'd really like to get outside for a run/walk but I'm not sure if that will be possible this week. We have snow chances most days this week and below zero windchills for some of it also. I'll have to take it day by day for now.

Have a nice Monday!

No exercise again yesterday. That fast food stuff got the best of me. My stomach was not happy with it. Plus my son and his girlfriend came by and then they had to go to my Friends AirBNB and try and take care of some issues that guests were having. I don't get how she thinks she can have this place when they're living in UT. I'm helping her out and luckily DH is ok with helping her out too, but we can't always drop things and go over there. There's shoveling that needs to be done and it's well below zero with windchills so we're not going to do it.

Treadmill this morning for sure. I'm still eating good. I may have gone over just a little yesterday but the guilt is drilled in my head now so I think before I eat.

I hope everone has a nice Sunday! Weather wise it should be quiet. Just wish it wasn't so darn cold.

No run yesterday. It was for the best. I had too many things going on and I needed to concentrate on that. This afternoon I can get on the treadmill or the Elliptical. We got snow. Not as much as they originally forecast but still enough. Today the wind is suppose to pick up and we should have blowing and drifting and very cold temps. It's going to be a good day to just stay inside and keep warm. I went to the grocery store yesterday and picked up stuff to make this weekend. We had fast food last night which didn't even taste good and my stomach didn't like very much. I've been so good. Haven't eaten out in about 2 weeks. Now I'm good for awhile again. I've been too busy concentrating on dropping weight. I lost the extra I gained but it's stuck on those numbers again. I need to change my exercise a bit I'm sure. I'm getting over 10,000 steps most days.

Time to move. Up extra early this morning so DH could clean the snow off the driveway. I'm thinking a nap today.

Have a good day!

with wind advisory. When it is nice out i have been walking- and trying to get motivated to do DVD's- I have a good collection but I fall out of that routine.

off to see a foreclosure - yep still have not bought a house.. DH and I want to age in place so we are being careful+ not a big inventory and I like our location and would prefere to stay here.

Hi James!

Hi Beck!
Hi Gloria!- intervals are really good training. I have heard the term garbage miles ?- I think it means just going out and running miles..but hey I will be happy when I start up doing that ! I signed up for a 10K - March 22 that benefits a bird sanctuary.

Hi James! Hi Em! What's the weather like where you are James?

I got out and did four miles last night. It was a lot cooler than it has been lately at about 40 with a strong breeze. Going out the wind was to my back and I felt good but coming back it was a headwind and it was a bit chilly - still nothing compared to the brutal winter that Becky has! My Garmin really has been acting up. I think I need to reset it or something. It tracks stairs (or hills) and it keeps telling me I have done way more elevation/stairs than I have been. Then last night it did the weirdest thing every. I know this route so well, have been running it for years and I know it is four miles (it's and out and back). Well last night it said I had done 4.25 miles and the first mile was where it messed up - said I was REALLY fast that mile, haha! I am still trying to figure out my strategy for my half in February. I've been running but last night decided to do intervals because that is what my best friend does so when I run with her, that is what we do. Last night I did 2 minute run/one minute walk and it seems my pace is the same or maybe even a little fast than if I just run. I will keep experimenting with this but I don't have much time left!

Today is a full rest day and after work I will be traveling. I checked out the map for where I will be staying, it seems like I should be able to run outside - I think it will be VERY hilly. It's supposed to rain and sunrise will be later than at home so I might not be able to start as early - but I won't be able to figure this out until I get there.

Welcome Back James!

Hi Em!

I ended up on the treadmill again yesterday but I did more walking. 12,000 steps so I'm good. I usually workout on Fridays but due to the storm today I'm holding off of working out and running errands early plus I have my friends Airbnb to clean before the next tenant arrives this afternoon. Maybe I'll work out this afternoon. If not I'll hit it tomorrow. We still don't know exactly how much snow we're suppose to get. We're under a Winter Storm Warning but we've learned that doesn't mean much. Basically wait and see.

Have a nice Friday!

Becky

Hey everybody! I'm not new to this team but I haven't been here in almost 2 years. Lots of personal stuff took me away from SP but I am back now and trying to get back into running. Right now I am just walking and trying to get in shape so hopefully i can run again soon.

Good Morning Anne Marie! I do have Elderberry at home, just forgot that it has to be taken within 48 hours of onset so too late. I'll check out the ColdCalm.

Ugh on those negative windchills Becky! Sounds like your treadmill run was good though! Wish I could get a good one on the treadmill. I am going out of town this weekend and so I am not sure I can run outside (in a place I am not familiar with). They have a fitness center but it is not on site so I would have to drive somewhere to get to that. It's supposed to be raining a lot too so I don't know how this weekend will turn out. I don't know what kind of running clothes to pack since I don't know where I will be running, if at all.

I went to yoga last night. She did a lot more core work than we are used to. That is exactly the type of workout that I need but my core is not strong at all and so it is so hard for me to do some of these things. I am going to try to run tonight. I am pretty sure it is going to be in the dark. Ugh!

Yesterday was definitely a treadmill day and it was a very good workout! Why can't my legs feel that good more often. Plus I had worked in the morning. I had over 6000 steps in just from work. Maybe it's the dry cold air thats making them feel good. Not sure.

Gloria-if anything goes to my chest, I'm the same way. It takes forever for it to go away. I'm never sick so when I do, it likes to hang around for awhile.

Well. today it's not going to be an outside day. Negative wind chills and all out cold. The sun is suppose to come out which will make it feel even colder. We have a Winter Storm Watch for tomorrow. Can't say how much we'll get. The weather person can't either. Maybe a dumping, maybe not. Either way, it's going to be another day of inside exercise. Oh well. I might as well get used to it cuz its going to be here for a bit. As long as it's not terribly icy I'm fine.

Have a nice day! Yes this week is flying by. We're already halfway thru January. Spring is coming!

Becky

For folks suffering from colds or flu, I just want to mention homeopathic remedies like ColdCalm from the Boiron company. I'm hypersensitive to a lot of the usual over-the-counter remedies and can't take them, so I'm always looking for alternatives. Elderberry, yes! And ColdCalm has helped me survive some severe cold seasons. I would definitely recommend it.

Good Morning! Happy Wednesday. The week is flying. Already half way through January. Crazy.

Elderberry - yes! I have, that, wish I had remembered it. Seems like it must be taken within 48 hours of symptom onset so I am not sure if it will do me any good now. I basically now have a stuffy/runny nose. I just hope it doesn't settle into my chest and cause a cough because that I can never get rid of - takes weeks if that happens!

We've had all of this amazing weather and it's going to be very warm again today but they are saying by next week we will see much colder than normal temperatures - guess we will pay for this great weather we've had! Ha!

I wanted five miles yesterday but I kind of have to go with hubby's schedule too and I was only able to get 3.75 in. It WAS in the daylight so that was very awesome and it was nice out, so a t-shirt - a t-shirt in January, that is just incredible. It felt like a good run. Not super fast by any means but legs felt good and breathing was good. It kind of opened up my airways a bit!

It would've been a good morning for an outdoor run but my hip as bothering me and I thought I'd wait. Well, the more I moved, the more I realized that I would only suffer if I exercised so I decided to take yesterday off. I felt much better last night and even slept in bed with little pain most of the night. This morning I'm feeling pretty good. The rest of the week is not going to be good for any outdoor activity. Cold, windy and snowy.

Gloria-around here people swear by Elderberry syrup. It's expensive but it's used for colds and flu. I haven't tried it but then again I usually don't get sick. I hope you feel better soon. It's not easy to run when you feel that way.

I'm hoping to get on the treadmill this afternoon after work. We'll see.

Have a nice day!

Becky

Good Morning! Tuesday already. This morning I have a very bad sore throat and a bit of congestion. Don't have time for this! I am working from home today but colds are contagious for like a week I think and I won't be able to work from home anymore until next week. I am super careful about hand washing and not touching public stuff but at the office it is about impossible to avoid everything. I've always heard that lemon and honey tea is good for colds. I don't have any lemon but I have honey and tea so I am going to try that. I might add some ginger. Last night I had a big bowl of homemade chicken soup. I've got zinc lozenges too, I will use those, anything to make this go away fast!

It's still warm here, 55 early this morning, yowza, this early and it is already that much warmer than the normal average high of 46! I am going to try to run today. I need to, I am behind on my training for my half in February. It's supposed to rain this evening so I am going to have to do whatever I can to get out earlier and get it done.

Becky, be careful if you go out there, that freezing drizzle is such a worry! I think I would have to hibernate all winter if I was in that climate, I would be so terrified.

Gloria-The sciatica is not good when you want to sleep. I'm so careful now because of what I went thru. Do the exercises. I think thats what helped mine get better but it took alot longer than what I read. I used to do the leg press on my weight machine but not anymore. Reading I found that using one of those can affect the discs in your back and cause sciatica. It made sense because it happened right after I used the machine. My Dr. wanted to do an MRI to see if I had a bulging disc or something. I couldn't lay on my back. Duh! Plus I would have to be sedated for one of those. It probably wouldn't have mattered anyway unless it was so bad that they needed to do surgery which I assume its not seeing as it went away.

I didn't know what kind of exercise to do yesterday. I debated about going to the lake or just going somewhere to walk my dog. Elliptical or treadmill. Well, I decided on the treadmill and then walking my dog. I can't say it was a good workout by no means. I got my 10,000 steps in yesterday. I'd love to get out today but we had 3 or more inches of snow overnight plus some freezing drizzle so I'm not sure what the path is going to look like. Temps aren't bad but they're suppose to drop and its suppose to get a little windy. I really don't want the treadmill again so we'll see how the morning goes.

I have some errands to run this morning so I'll check things out. My poor little dog was filthy yesterday after our walk. I had to wash her sweater and then put her in the tub and clean her legs ond bottom. So much sand and salt on the road. I probably shouldn't have walked her but she loves her walks.

More snow tonight and then again on Friday/Sat. Winter has finally arrived here. Hopefully it won't stay long. I want an early Spring this year. We're due for one.

Have a wonderful day!

Becky

Interesting about your leggings Becky. I don't have anything like that because it usually doesn't get that cold here, but twice I've done February races (Hot Chocolate both times) where it was that cold and I wished that I had something better. I just layered. But when your bottom gets cold....so I bought a SmartWool skirt to wear over my tights to keep my bottom warmer. Even with that sometimes it gets cold. For my phone I usually run with a running jacket that has zippered pockets. So I put the phone in there with a Hot Hands Hand Warmer. If it is super cold it might not help but for the average cold day it seems to. I haven't had to use them much this year. This year my biggest problem seems to be my fingers. They are always cold, even when it is not cold out.

For my eating, I am not as compliant as I could or should be - like you said, it is hard. Also, I can't burp because I had esophagus surgery several years ago, so what you said about being gassy and the veggies, that is the story of my life every day because it can't go out from the top. I just try to do the best I can but I know lately I have been really bad. My appointment with the rheumatologist is later this month and I am worried about what she is going to say.

I went to yoga last night. It was a nice class. I thought I would sleep well after that but for some reason I didn't. Worrying about everything, and my sciatica and periformis issues are bothering me a lot. No matter what, I can't seem to lay. Standing is okay, sitting is so so, laying not okay. I've got a lot of exercises for that and some of them we do in yoga but I guess I need to step it up.

Have a great day and remember, spring is just around the corner!

Gloria-That type of diet would be pretty difficult for me. I get it though if you can't eat any of that stuff. That has to be frustrating. I love to eat veggies but I crave protein. I get really gassy if I only eat fruits and veggies. I limit the amount of bread, etc. I eat too. I remember reading on Spark so many times about people saying you can't eat anthing with white flour or sugar. Some would get pretty bad about it. We don't eat alot of potatoes, rice, or pasta here so I don't care. Moderation is what it's all about. When you were talking about inflammation, I remember someone saying that avoiding flour, etc. would help with the aches and pains of my arthritis. It would be hard for me to give up stuff totally and would probably end up binging at some point.

Yesterdays run stunk! It was very cold. I wear these Polartec leggings which are super warm but my back end got cold yesterday. I had to feel back there to make sure I didn't have a whole or something. Even my fingers were cold. I was just using mapmyfitness to track yesterday and it was off. Plus the cold killed my phone. I was lucky I saved my running time but I lost my walking. I'm not sure how many steps I got in then. Afterwards I went to my moms and then came home had a cup of coffee cuz I was so chilled and put my winter jacket on to take the dog for a walk. I was still chilled last night. I finally went to bed so I could warm up underneath the covers.

We had a little snow over night and more is on the way tonight and tomorrow. I'm not sure what kind of workout I'm going to do today. We'll see after breakfast.

Enjoy those warmer temps. I'd love to have a few days of those.

Becky

Becky, everyone comments on the diet because it is like an elimination diet and everything is eliminated, haha, except veggies maybe! But I can have fish and chicken too. No beef, no eggs, no dairy, no gluten, no processed food whatsoever, no white rice. There might be more, I can't remember but they gave me a sheet with a list. Fruit is okay too. My eating has gotten so weird, I can hardly stomach much anymore. I eat a lot of salads now with grilled chicken. Yesterday we ate out and I knew I needed some protein but everything just sounded gross to me. I ended up with just veggies (spinach, sweet potato, asparagus and broccoli). I cannot tolerate much for breakfast these days. Hubby took us to a new place for breakfast today and they had a lot of breakfast sandwiches, which I cannot have bread (due to swallowing issues) even if I could have gluten (gluten also is a trigger for the type of colitis that I have) so I ended up just getting some oatmeal. They also had eggs and traditional breakfast meats, pancakes and such, but none of which I am supposed to eat (but I love pancakes). I need some protein I think. Anyway, there are some breakfast places around here that have other stuff that I love, like salads, but we don't got to those places much. Hubby wants to eat at home more but I am not cooking his junk that I won't eat. He is diabetic and has high blood pressure. If he wants to eat burgers and fried chicken tenders he will have to cook it himself or go out to get it. His idea of cooking is a can of spaghettios or a frozen pizza, ha!!! Poor guy.

I don't know what I did but everything was hurting, my back, my hips, my legs, and I was so tired. This morning I was dreading getting up to do my run. I did though. I needed six miles and I got five because I got up late. I thought it went okay. Pace was pretty slow because things were a little sore. Breathing seemed okay. It was warm, about 43 degrees and a light wind, maybe 5 mph so it felt great. I did use my roller/massager thing after and I hope that helps. I am going to stay active today, that usually helps too. If I sit around things are much worse.

Becky you probably already know this, but if you go to an ortho, go to one that specializes in sports medicine. I think you CAN continue to run. So many doctors say not to but those that deal with athletes will never tell you that unless it is very serious. I think your step goal is very good! I used to get a lot of steps in every day but my job has gotten so bad that it is about impossible for me to do that and I really want to!

Today is the marathon at Disney World and it is so hot that they ended up shortening the course. Too many people passing out. I wonder what it will be like next weekend for the Princess half. I am trying to acclimate myself to the heat by sticking with hot yoga. The treadmill would be a good idea too for running in the heat buy my Garmin doesn't act right with the treadmill so I guess I need to just go by time if I do that. I am thinking about dressing up as Minnie Mouse for the 10k and Pocahontas for the Half.

I will probably go to yoga this afternoon.

Becky, hope your weather doesn't get bad. I am still shocked by how warm it is here. Average high temperature for this time of year is 46. Yesterday it was in the 70s and when I ran this morning it was still early and it was already 43 - so it is going to be in the 50s today and so despite that strong front coming through, still way ABOVE the average high. As a person who is pretty much freezing all of the, time, I am not complaining but it is just weird!

Gloria-what kind of anti-inflamatory diet are you on? I'm not sure what it was but I know I didn't eat the greatest but I didn't think it was that bad. Obviously it was. I retain more water now than I used to so I know I need to change things up now. I've been counting calories and weighing my food now. I've been eating alot of veggies and my stomach tells me that all of the time. I am limiting myself to 2 pcs of dark chocolate a day and that's it. We haven't gone out to eat either. I'm sure we will this week. I have a birthday coming up.

I'm determined to do 10,000 steps so yesterday I worked and after lunch I went on the treadmill and then walked the dog. I could've just walked the dog but it was cold and windy so I wasn't sure how far we would go. I ended up with 13,000 steps. The mindset of getting 10,000 steps in seems to be easier to obtain than to say I have to run this many miles. I was reading up on Degenerative Arthritis in the hip and they say to swim and cycle. I really want to go and see an Ortho. about my Arthritis. I want them to look at my Xrays and see if the bone spurs are whats causing most of my pain. I'm not getting enough support from my Dr. right now as to what I can do. I know the running isn't good but since I'm not tryng to run a race or long miles I don't think it's any worse than walking at this point. Sure would be nice to talk to someone about it though.

So far we haven't seen any snow or rain. That's suppose to change later today I guess. We should see some snow. Hopefully not alot. It's cold this morning but my goal is to go to the lake and do my run/walk today. It's not suppose to be windy so I should be ok. Anything besides the treadmill.

Have a nice Sunday!

Becky
