Miss Dreamsville and the Collier County Women's Literary Society - Amy Hill Hearth - 3 stars

Set in the 60s a woman moves to the South and gathers an interesting group of folks to discuss literature.

Sweet read that deals with some of the issues of the South but needed more character development for me.

All the Single Ladies - Dorothea Benton Frank - 3.5 stars

I listened to this by audio book and so it took a while. I definitely liked the narrator and enjoyed the story but it seemed to have a lot of holes in it. Good have used more editting but sweet story. There was a mystery to it - but really not the key to the plot.

Story of a geriatric nurse in the South who befriends two women. They all find romance and try to solve the mystery of a woman they cared for who passed away and whose landlord was claiming her valuables were hers.

Doing Hard Time - Stuart Woods - 3 stars

Someone is trying to target Stone's son as revenge. Stuart Woods seemed to get back to basics in this one so it was one of the better ones in the series. Perfect for reading on the plane.

The Undomestic Goddess - Sophie Kinsella 3.5 stars

Fun easy beach read that could be the plot to a Hallmark movie. Lawyer finds herself serving as the housekeeper for a couple even though she has no domestic skills. Of course she finds love and then has to decide what to do next with her life.

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket (4*)
I'm reviewing the series as one long book. It wasn't to my taste, but I certainly can admire the creativity, humor, author's meditations, and internal consistency. I can see why kids would love this series, although some of the humor is erudite and would go over their heads. A lot of unpleasant events and consequences could have been prevented if the adults weren't arrogant dolts too involved with their own agendas to consider kids' viewpoints to be of importance, and, of course, the adults just don't listen to kids and keep rebuking them for interrupting while interrupting the kids' attempts to communicate things of vital urgency, to everyone's peril. There is much here that is dark and morbid that some parents might not consider desirable for kiddie lit, and the author doesn't hesitate to kill off characters, especially the good guys.

I'm excited to have a book to share early in the month!

Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come: One Introvert's Year of Saying Yes by Jessica Pan. * * *

I'm not sure why this book caught my eye. It's not the type I usually read, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Jessica is an introvert, who has lived in the US, China, and Great Britain, but in London found that her social circle was too small and her life too constrained even for a shy person. So, she undertook to change that by forcing herself to do things that extroverts do---joining an improv group, attending professional networking events, giving a dinner party, even participating in a public story-telling event.
The results are funny because she has a sharp sense of humor, but they are also interesting and revealing. She does some homework by contacting "specialists" and she is a thoughtful commentator on modern life and her own predicament.
Not life-changing, but amusing and enjoyable, especially for those of us who prefer a world of books to noisy parties and loud bars. 3 Stars
