We sang at a funeral today. There were choir members there from three different churches, it was wonderful to sing with such a large group. We sang Stephen Paulus's "Pilgrim's Hymn" and "O Day Full of Grace" by F. Melius Christiansen.

On Ash Wednesday we sang "Out of the Deep" by John Rutter. I enjoy the cello part on that piece, it's very moving.

We are kicking things off with a fabulous piano/organ duet on "As the Deer" which intermingles "The Swan" into it - it's arranged by Linda McKechnie and is wonderful.

Our choir will then sing a great arrangement of O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing as the introit.

Opening hymn is Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

Prayer Response - Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow - the tune is the Tallis Canon and we are doing it as a canon

Anthem - a great arrangement of In That Great Gettin' Up Morning with Great Day by Russell Mauldin - a fun, jump-shout piece

Hymn of response will be Forward Through the Ages (tune is Onward, Christian Soldiers)

and we're sending them out with Go Now in Peace

All in all, a morning of great music.

Come, Let Us Use the Grace Divine - hymntune Kingsfold - we had a choir of 8 members due to nasty weather so this was just a quick one to pull together

Our senior organist is out of town this weekend so I get to play - I'm having fun picking music. I'm glad I don't play every week but just once in a while

I have to admit to being slightly jealous (great virtue) when I see all the english song titles. I have recently changed Parishes and now belong to a French speaking group. Most of the hymns are completely unknown to me but this morning we did use the music to "Greensleeves" for one of the songs - made my day. lol HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

I was so excited to be able to sing with the choir today at my own church. Had a day off from my organ playing job.
My favorite hymn to sing the alto part to was "Angels We have Heard on High".
We had a soloist who sang "O Holy Night" with the 4 part choir joining in on the background.

Sunday was our big "cobbled together" cantata. The choir sang two songs with the Praise Band, a jazzy version of O come O come Emmanuel (it's actually quite nifty!), and the PB director and I arranged a Point of Grace song called "When Love Came Down." The choir also sang Some Children See Him, and Let Heaven and Nature Sing. A real variety. It was fun! But stressful. There's never enough time to get everything as ready as we want it to be, is there?

Let all you do be done in love.

We sang a neat thing called, "Hodie Veni Christe" --
if you want to hear it you can go to
http://sc.fhview.com/sc_customplayer/ser
iesitems/1/116399
and click on the middle sermon, for 12/13/09 at 9:10 (called Give More Presence), then click on "Listen." The first thing before the sermon is our anthem! Sounds pretty good, for a bunch of volunteers.....

Today we're singing "The Jesus Gift" and I'm doing a solo of "The Gift" -- the newer carol about a poor orphan girl named Maria who finds a bird with a broken wing, takes care of it, and takes it as her offering to the Christ child.

Let all you do be done in love.

tomorrow is a big music day for us

Sussex Carol by Mack Wilberg - choir, handbells, piano, & orchestra

Carol to the King - choir, piano, and orchestra

Manger Suite (a short cantata by Michael W. Smith) - choir, piano/organ, orchestra, and children's choir

In addition, we have The First Noel, What Child is This?, and one other hymn that I'm drawing a blank on right now.
