I do fasting blood sugar each morning first thing when I get up - before water , meds or food. Since I have some heart issues as well, I check my weight daily also after I go potty and before dressing.
Occasionally I test meal time sugars...test before first bite of a meal, wait one hour and test and at two hours and three hours. This is looking for my reaction to specific food/addative or
if I "don't feel right" . Sometimes I will get a high and cannot explain why but usually I look back and see a higher carb intake the day before.
The A1C is checked at clinic every 6 months mine has been 5.8. 5.9 5.8 6.0. You can purchase kits to test your own but I have not done so.
