Yesterday was a treadmill day......if it is cold, I need the sun, and it was just to hazy, and now we have rain. I like watching a movie when on the treadmill, yesterday it was 'First Knight,' my favorite Sean Connery film, and the one that made me a Richard Gere fan. Tomorrow I celebrate 7 years SMOKE FREE, something I NEVER expected to say!

No matter what Phil says, by the calendar spring is 6 weeks away, but I have seen snow on the first of Spring. In '78 we had a late season storm, and there was tons of snow on the ground April 1 (I remember this because I moved that day!)

Splash and I got out for a great walk yesterday, 83 minutes, 4.84 miles. The sky was blue, the sun was warm., reflecting on the ice-covered snow banks........sure looked pretty, and now another round for the 2011 Crap-o-rama coming tomorrow. BUT! I know I would get bored with monotone weather, and this summer when it is 90 degrees, I cal look at all my snow/ice pictures and feel cooler!

Phil did NOT see his shadow this year, and I sure was happy to see the return of the sun yesterday afternoon! Unfortunately, a little to late to walk, but I'll sure try to get out there today in the sunshine!

Oh, yeah, regular snow-a-rama here too. Thank goodness for home exercise equipment because with snow on top of ice, I'm sure someone would get a good laugh if I tried a speed walk outside today.

Still hanging around SP and loving every minute of it! The sun is shinning but It is still very cold. We have major storms coming in this week with 10+ inches of snow. I am hoping that changes.

Boy I have had a tough few months, but January is a beautiful time of new beginnings and I am here to tell ya, I am ready and willing for change! I have noticed a few things this week(now I know it is only Tuesday) 1) I need to drink my eight glasses of water. 2) I will not skip my exercise even if I am tired out...that is hard as well! 3) I will break my habit of going to the fridge when I get up to use the bathroom at night! (omg! I can't believe I am going to post that!) Well new years, new habits, new me!

I don't know what today was like, I slept through it. Oh the joys of working nights. ;) I indulged myself a little this morning. I had a Snickers. First one in about a month. Boy, it sure tasted good, but it was plenty. It satisfied my sweet tooth that the banana didn't touch, but I din't want anything more after it. Thank you SparkPeople!! It will probably be my last major indulging for a bout 8 weeks. My son's graduation is in March, and my ex is going to be there. I want to indulge in a little nose thumbing when I see him for the first time in 14 years. *grin* Plus the Pound Plunge has started, and I want to make a good showing for that. Twelve weeks of weigh ins. ick.

Well, off to do what they pay me for!! Have a good night everyone!

I have OA too, in one knee for sure, Probably in the other as well, I just don't feel like paying the doctor to tell me what I already know to do. I've been taking 2-4 naproxen sodium (store brand Aleve) most days, and I bought a pair of Sketchers Shape ups last year. I don't like spending money on shoes, but that is the best investment I've ever made. I went from barely making 5 minutes on the treadmill to doing 30, plus eliptical and stationary bike. I can walk outside now without worrying that my knee will give out and I won't be able to get back home. They aren't cheap, around $100.00, but I think you should look into them, or another brand that does the same thing.

Good luck! And remember, every little bit helps.

So good to see all the posts. Everybody still working on goals, facing issues and pressing on. I gained 3 pounds between mid-December and January 4. I was a little down but decided that wasn't going to get the weight off. I am back on track again. Wee! Thank you all for your honesty in this life long process.

While getting in some veggies last night I made a terrible mistake. I have a partial. I bit the carrot with my front teeth instead of the back teeth. Out popped two of my teeth off my partial! Oh no! Very upset. I knew I needed a new one, but put it off just one more year to pay for senior rings, truck repairs, xmas, hospital bills, etc. I now have an appt with the dentist tomorrow.

Moral of the story, eat your veggies, but be careful with false teeth!!!! emoticon

Personally, I've found that I really like tangerines right now, so I've been eating them for my sweet craving after meals. I also snack on sugar snap peas at my desk at work and use flavored hummus as a dip, getting me even more veggies. I've started adding a salad to lunch and dinner most days, which also helps. Good luck! You can do it!

Hi, NOAHSGMA - what I read about the strength training exercise caloric burn was that there are too many variables for them to estimate correctly, as different people make modifications for their own range of motion and activity levels, and people use different-sized weights when doing weight-related exercise. It's been 5 days now on my Food Combining. Results:

Mon: 155.4
Tues: 154.2
Wed: 153.4
Thurs: 152.6
Fri: 151.6

WOW! I'm in awe of what I can do. 4 pounds since Monday! I love getting up in the mornings. I love getting on my scale. The more I do the Food Combining, the easier it gets. The best part ... no extra groceries, the food that I already have works. The foods that I've been eating all along and only losing 1 pound a week ... just eating them differently and BAM! I'm losing almost 1 pound A DAY.

It really is true ... change your mind = change your body.

Some great snack tips here. I find myself not eating much fruit. I just don't enjoy it so much, except watermelon, which is not to good this time of year. I like to keep 100 calorie popcorn at work for my afternoon snack and sometimes a dill pickle. (If you are not to concerned about sodium) It's like I'm at the movies, just without the movie! Some customers are a show in themselves though. Thanks for the tips ladies!

Kelser, It might also help to make a list of snacks you can have. i cut up fruit and veggies as soon as I bring them home from the store. I buy some great yogurt flavors and as long as it is fat free it's a great snack. I also make up some bags of nuts and carry an apple in my purse. I think never having to go without a good snack has helped me. emoticon You are doing great with starting at the Y. Keep it up!

Take a deep breath. You've made a great first step. Joining the Y across the street from where you work is extremely effeicient. It gives you less wiggle room for excuses to skip workouts.

Food is hard for a lot of us. Just make the best choices that you can. Concentrate on veggies. And, if you want something sweet ... find some fruit. That usually helps me.

Change your thinking though ... instead of thinking of all the foods that you CANNOT have ... think of the ones that you CAN.

I have started reading up on and trying out something called FOOD COMBINING.

There are no special foods to buy. Just foods to eat at the same time. And foods to never eat with other foods. And different amounts of time to wait before and after eating certain things.

Yesterday was interesting. According to the FC policy you cannot drink water WITH your food. You have to wait until the food is digested ... then you can drink again. And should stop drinking 15 min before eating anything. I always have a bottle of water on me. And I never really thought about how much I drink. I generally easily drink four 20oz bottles of water each day with no troubles. Yesterday I drank 5 easily, because water was on my mind ALL DAY. Just being told I couldn't drink it for "x" amount of hours, made me crave it. CRAVING WATER!!!! What is this world coming to?!?!?!?!

I noticed yesterday, also, that I had much more energy. I had less stress (other than the water issues). And I was more patient with my kids.

I also lost 1.2 pounds in one day. I have done this before, with the Food Combining. So I'm not getting too terribly excited ... although it did bust me off of my 155.4 plateau that I had been camped out on for 3 days straight (yes, I weigh daily ... is discourages cheating).

My candle sits next to my laptop in my bedroom. It's a glade fresh mountain morning scent. Such a small thing, and yet, with this Candle challenge that I issued -- I find myself gazing into the flame, then closing my eyes, taking a deep calming breath, and saying a short prayer often. :o)

I am having a hard time especially during this holiday with eating right...I was having a hard time working out as well, but decided to join the YMCA across the street from work. It makes me go workout so that I can miss traffic in the evenings. So basically I need to start eating correctly...which will be hard since I will be going out of town this weekend and being on holiday trips make it hard to eat right.
