I just finished week 2, and I agree that it is hard doubling the time. BUT, Weeks 2 and 3 are basically the same (except you add a cycle during week 3). I think this is how they justify doubling in the second week. I say try it (which you did...WTG!) and you may be surprised at what you can do. Finishing today's session, my hubby wanted me to try running up a pretty steep incline (the 5K we are training for is over a bridge). I just knew I couldn't do it after running the plan, but I set a goal to make it to the first tree. When I got there, I thought I could go more. I made it to the top! Most of the time, I really surprise myself. So....keep trying! If you can't do it, slow down or repeat a week.

Ask me what it's like being a PCOS diva!

I did the first run of week 2. I left at about 6 am which is unusual for me but I totally loved doing it. It was so beautiful outside today.

You should be proud of yourself for pushing through. That's great. I tend to look down the road and tell myself I just need to make it to the sign, or big tree.

Today was my first day of week 2. And for me it was hard, but I did finish it, I did it 6 times, just to challenge myself, and it was still hard but every time I wanted to give up I looked at my stopwatch and it showed between 20 seconds and 3 seconds left.
So the looking at my stopwatch helped me not to quiet right before I finish.

Good things comes to those who work hard for it.

That's exactly what happened to me. I shrugged it off as another way to ease into the next level.

Thanks BDTHOM for the congrats. But oops. Reading your post made me realize that I didn't actually do the complete workout because I didn't read correctly. I only did the 2run/3walk sequence FOUR times, not FIVE. I'm glad you wrote what you wrote or I wouldn't have realized it.

Congratulations to both of you ANITAJJ and GYPSYGOTH for completing your 2 minute runs. When I did Week 2/Day 1 I made the 2 minute runs but only four reps. I just finished week 3.

All the programs I've seen have an early sudden ramp up like this. In the classic C25K it's week three when it goes from 90 seconds to 3 minutes. It's a bigger jump. All we can do is try for the program goals and adapt to our personal fitness reality.

I wrote the prior (whining) post this morning before I had a chance to try the Week 2 walk/run. Now I've returned. And I WAS able to do it.

While I was walking home, I decided that it would be helpful for me to frame the guidelines in the program as what I'll call "BOLD GOALS", in order to not feel like I'm "less than average" if I can't succeed. Yes, I DID succeed today, but I imagine that as the program ramps up and/or I hit days or weeks when I can't keep up, I need to have a way to frame it that doesn't make me feel inferior.

So... BOLD GOAL week 2 Day 1. check.

Hi Gypsygoth... I agree with you that the ramp-up is way too aggressive. I was shocked to look this morning at the week 2 plan...

The comments that say "do what you can" are fine and all, (and we should always always only "do what we can", but I agree that the written plan's ramp-up is too steep. Three days of running a minute at a stretch does not prepare the body for doubling that (and greatly reducing the rest time as well.)

Kudos to you for accomplishing what you have! I sure hope the gains, though, aren't offset by injuries or worse than that even: discouragement (which can lead to quitting).

At this rate I will definitely be dead last in my first race in 4 weeks... too soon. Oh well. Dead last is better than did not try.

nicole, that's so weird! i'm using the "SparkPeople's 5K Your Way Rookie Running Program!" and i thought from looking at the options that they ALL jumped from jogging 1 min to jogging 2 in week 2...

Which plan are you using. The SparkPeople plan goes from 1 min in the first week to 2 minutes in the second. But that is only a guideline. If it's too much for you then stick with the 1.5 minute or whatever gets your through it.

I'm starting week 2 also - my plan shows going from 1 minute of jogging in the first week to 1.5 in the 2nd week. Am I missing something?

It is attitude, not circumstance, that makes success possible in even the most unlikely conditions.

I just finished week 1 and I'm nervous and excited about week 2. The 1 minute time was much easier than when I tried C25K about 5 years ago. I lasted about 2 1/2 weeks on that program before hurting my knee. I am hoping since I have lost about 35 or so lbs. since then I will have an easier time. I also haven't put a time limit on myself. If it takes me longer than 8 weeks so what? At least we are doing it and that's what counts. emoticon

i do realize that i CAN modify, i am just complaining about a "rookie" program which expects you to jump that fast. i think C25K is more reasonable.

I did first day of week 2 really struggled on the first two 2 minute jogs and only lasted 90 seconds but because of where I live these are both uphill. The 2 on the way home a lot easier. I am enjoying however but I think I maybe on week 2 for a little longer!

it took me about 3 weeks to get through the last workout of week 1, so maybe that is it.

i just can't see how they expect someone who is NEW to running to suddenly be able to jump from one minute to two.

unfortunately my first 5K is in like 5 weeks so i can't be repeating weeks here or i'll walk the whole darn thing ;)

I would say, do what you can. If you were struggling with week 1, ,maybe repeat it. There is no great hurry. If you get there in 16 weeks instead of eight, you will still get there. Your body maybe just taking time to adjust.

Keep going, you will get there and it will be worth it!

I finished week 1 today and will start week 2 on Friday.

How am I supposed to run TWICE as long right away? It is not as though doing a minute at once suddenly became a piece of cake after three sessions. I think I prefer the C25K program where I remember there being 30-second increments... I am afraid of dying from the pain!
