We went on a Windjammer cruise about 10 years ago and visited Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire (spelling). We had teens along so pretty well stayed away from night life and did "all things water"; lots of snorklng, swam wth the dolphins, visited ruins, shopped at street markets (especially in Curacao), ate at local eateries, and did A LOT of walking. We rented a rickshaw-type bike in Aruba and had a blast with it.

I'll have to check out your blog!

I have a trip review up on my blog now!

We had a really great time!!! I'd be happy to answer any questions about the destinations, especially San Juan since we were there for 4 days!

Thank you! I just need to figure out all the arrangements. I think I have it mostly figured out except for Dominica - still doing research. I'll have to ask hubby if he wants to do the tubing! I have a couple other choices too, but one of them is really pricey! It's seems so far away, but it's right after the holidays and will be here before I know it.

While at St Thomas, go over to St John and go to Trunk Bay for snokle and beach time. It was one of the most photographed beaches in the world and rightly so. One of our all time favorite places!!

I love to cruise! The British Virgin Islands are one of our favorites. We always go free-styling with the Norwegian Cruise Lines and pick their beach breaks. On our first cruise we tried to do it on our own. What a laugh. On one island we almost got stranded on the opposite side of the island but a tour guide took pity on us and made us a very good offer. His name is very fitting, "Charles in Charge". I've always wanted to go to Aruba but my husband has a snake phobia and we've seen pictures which makes Vicki's idea of off-roading a little scary for him. Not for me though. Hope you have a great time.

All great places to visit!

Aruba - the island is only 20 x 4 miles long, so rent a jeep and travel the island (be sure to have water with you). If you rent a jeep or a 4 wheel vehicle, you can go off road. It's the only way to see the island. It is fantastic and you'll find many breathtaking photo opportunities! Lots of good food to eat if you want to give up a meal on the ship.

Curacao - snorkeling and walking the town are good choices here.

Dominica - you've got to go tubing! We went with the wacky rollers ( Reserved ahead of time, they picked us up and took real good care of us. We had a group of 20 and a couple non-swimmers. The wacky rollers made sure we had a safe and fun trip. Wouldn't miss this for anything - it's such a beautiful peaceful journey down the river.

St. Thomas - On our first trip here we took an island tour with Godfrey Tours ( He was fantastic and showed us a great time. Godfrey was full of information abut the island and was focused on showing us a good time. Very reasonably priced too. Our next trip we took a catamaran tour and went snorkeling. I'd recommend either, as they both were worth worthwhile. Also you'll find great shopping here.

San Juan - a lot of history at this stop. Take it all in. We actually went on our own and took a tour of the fort and Old San Juan. Then took the local bus to get around town to check out all of the sites.

We've been on many cruises and enjoyed what each island offered. Recently we've stuck to "air/ground" trips and have enjoyed Punta Cana for an all inclusive trip and Aruba for a pay as you go trip. We will be in Aruba again in February and I'm already in countdown mode.

Enjoy your cruise!!

Going on a cruise in January! Has anyone ever been to these destinations? I'm looking for ideas of what to do at each stop. I have some ideas, but would love suggestions.

What I've thought of or researched on my own:

Aruba - not sure yet! I think it will be a relaxing beach day, but maybe a Jeep tour?
Curacao - snorkeling, somewhere. Hooks Hut or Blue Bay? Want to walk the town in the afternoon, shop etc.
Dominica - Jeep tour or other guided tour.
St. Thomas/St. John - not sure! Would like to go to Trunk Bay I think. Unsure.
San Juan - will be there two days after the cruise. Old San Juan, the rainforest, other ideas?

Anyone else love to cruise as well as love to travel? This is only our 2nd cruise. I like traveling both ways, and am looking forward to this!
