Sept 16, 2017 - Walk Woof Wag Walk/Run - a fun event for humans and dogs, too! This event benefited the local Humane Society shelter. I had a couple of milestones at this event: I did 10K distance, which is the longest event I have done since I started working back to health, and I also racked up 220 minutes of moderate-to-intense exercise for the week which was a new best.

Here I am with my Veloped, husky, and friends... feeling fine!

Papa,

Happy to hear you are enjoying your return to running. Wow! You've run a lot of races this year. The BRIN Series sounds like fun!

Are you in Lincoln, Nebraska? Do you know ONEKIDSMOM (Barb)? I believe she ran the Buffalo Run and passed on the Harvest Moon Hustle; so, she could leave the possibility open for her to participate in a triathlon today.

Buffalo Run 5 mile race. This one is a little hilly for our area. I'm just starting to run again so I was pretty gassed but so much fun to be running and racing again. We get running shorts instead of shirts for this one.

IMTHEPAPA, You've had quite the year with your races! From one mile to marathons. Running with childhood friends and family. Sounds like great fun and great times.

I ran the Lincoln Mile (yes, a one mile race) last weekend. Really fun and I took 35 seconds off my time from a year ago but still finished dead last in my division of six guys. There are some fast 55-59 year old guys out there! The best part was running "with" a childhood friend.

I ran the CornfieldCornfield10k yesterday in 95% humidity. The fun part was running with a childhood friend I hadn't seen in quite a while. He's faster than me so the first 2.5 miles I ran faster than i should've but it was fun to run with him. Great race. Watermelon at the "after" was so good!! This race is part of a "blackout" series of three races. The first was the Leprechaun Chase in March. The last of the series is the Harvest Moon Hustle. All 10ks. I like longer races but these are really fun and well done.

Oh, and I ran Bolder Boulder on Memorial Day with my sister. Such a fun and kind of crazy 10k race! I had my best time ever for that particular race and I managed not to fall down in the football stadium this time at the finish which I've done before lol. 8 hour drive. 53 minute race. 8 hour drive home. Normal.

Prior to that I ran my first ever marathon May 7 at the Lincoln Marathon. Great experience.

June 3, Raleigh Race 13.1 Done... Official time better than Garmin Time.. 2:12:17.86.. Mile 11 - 13.1 were all hills!!! Starting temps 63 degrees 83% humidity. What was really interesting during the first part of my race was this girl kept passing me then slowing down in front of me and then a man that kept making loud odd noises.. I finally picked it up and got very far ahead of them... I kept very focused on my pace, breathing and posture.. I basically enjoyed nature and blocked everything else out..
Came in 2nd in my age group... Yes, I am a Half Fanatic!!! Great meet up this morning!!

I've run two recent races (actually 3). The Flying Pig full on May 7th. I ran strong until Mile 23, and then I had an asthma attack that was so bad the paramedics almost didn't let me finish. My oxygen dropped to 88%. They kept me on the side of the road for 20 minutes, and then I had to walk the remain 2.5 miles. I was having the best race of my life, and then that!! I was very disappointed that the time did not reflect my great training cycle, my on-point fueling, my perfect execution and even splits. But oh well. Overall, I was more pleased with my performance than disappointed with my time. I couldn't help the asthma. I woke up the next morning feeling like I hadn't even run!! On 5/20 (two weeks later) I did a hot, humid, hilly half. It sucked the soul and life right out of me! The humidity was just too much to take. Not my worst half, but certainly far from my best! And then this past Saturday I ran a cross country 5K. It was a lot of fun, but I think I'm too old for cross country races. Muddy downhills, and creek jumping, well, that is meant for younger people. Haha! I may do another 5K in a couple of weeks. I'm not sure yet. I'm also unsure of a 4th of July 10K. My goal race is a full in Utah in September.

I ran 3 races this weekend - Madtown 10K and Madtown Half Marathon in Madison, WI and Brian Kraft 5K here in Minneapolis.

The 2 Madtown races where with my friend who does fundraising for IBD cures. We took it nice and easy both days, but the distance was definitely plenty. I had to soak my feet for blisters when I got back to Minnesota!

Since I am not yet training for anything specifically, and I had just run 2 distance races, I set some loose goals for the 5K and managed to achieve all but 1, which was setting a PR. I was extremely happy to see that I have regained fitness I lost 3 years ago with stress overtraining.

It was a great weekend of running!

Have you run a race recently? Share your story here. I ran a 10k today, Memorial Day. I've been running this race for years and, for me, it signals the beginning of summer and racing season. It's a small, low-key local race. While my time was slower than my best for this race, I'm happy with it.

Let's read about your race!
