There is another organ that our body has skin; It is the largest organ - laid out flat it would cover about 2sq meters. It is classified as an organ because it is made up of cells, which makes tissue, which breathes, it is a living organ that works day and night, whether we are awake or asleep; it does not need our intervention to do its job. One of its functions is to protect our internal body from the outside environment. It is part of the endocrine system, manufacturing hormones like vitamin D for the rest of the body.

Because of the many nerve endings in the skin, we feel and can tell the difference between hot and cold, touch, texture, pressure, vibrations and pain etc. It acts as a water resistant barrier so essential nutrients are not washed out of the body, it protects our body from damage and disease. It also absorbs good and not so good things, so when buying lotions etc., read the labels. Be aware of what you put on your skin and take proper care of its maintenance. We should not take it for granted, without it we would not survive.

Joyful Moment - All you need to do today is:

Today take time out to think about your skin and all that it does. Be aware of what you put on your skin. Read the labels of the skin products you buy. Protect your skin form the harshness of the sun and other extremes of temperature. You only get one body in this life time, nourish it and treated with loving care.
