I was on a long plateau last year. I began losing in November and December. I was down to the lowest weight I have been in decades. My PCM pointed out I am still in the BMI obese range. I can read the chart thank you very much. I knew I had a ways to go, but I felt I was making progress.

This month so far not so good. I have gained five pounds. I refuse to change my ticker. I am going to lose the five pounds and keep losing. I am taking things slower and thinking in terms of a healthy body and lifestyle moving slowly toward my goal weight and then a maintenance plan. Non-scale victories are important for self esteem and improving my health is my goal.

I'm looking at things differently this time around too. I'm only down 3 pounds so far (after losing 4 and then gaining them back over the holidays). But I'm focusing on getting exercise to be a habit along with making yummy healthy meals at home rather than eating out or grabbing fast food. I know that these are two big hurdles for me, and when I master them the pounds will come off.

Great philosophy......Last year I was all about the pounds coming off...everything went to pieces by about June. By September I was trying a mind shift to do what is best for my can I be the most healthy without being so hard on myself. since January I am back on track and am staying within the calorie guidelines, exercising, watching my steps, and trying to keep a great attitude about being healthy. It is so hard when the competition with co-teachers at work is to constantly be on the best new diet, having others constantly monitor what you bring for lunch and commenting, and comparing who is at the gym the most......trying to learn to block that out and doing what is best for my health has been a good learning curve for me. So thanks, are a wonderful support!

We are already 3 weeks into the New Year and before we know it February will start. How is everyone going? How are your goals progressing so far?

I took a different approach to setting goals this year; instead of being all gunho and saying I am going to do this and that and it only lasting 2 weeks, I decided to look at it differently. During January I am looking deeper into the reasons I didn't achieve my golas last year and it has been interesting; so by the time February comes around I will be ready to set realistic goals.

Setting realistic goals is the key to keeping the motivation up.
