Topic - veil #2
we read in the study: "Now Jesus comes along & starts telling them that what they THINK about or their motives are just as bad or worse than the actions themselves. They just couldn't accept it.
They couldn't believe that their pompous prayers were worthless in God's sight next to a publican's humble prayer. They couldn't believe that their bags of money given with great show to the temple were worth less than the poor widow's pennies."

It is easy for many Western Christians to criticize ancient Christian practices and forms because they are not "Modern" enough. As if God keeps telling us to invent new ways to approach him based on our cultural preferences. This is also a problem in both the High Church and Low Church practices. Think about it -- in the USA for example we use modern languages for worship and Scripture. We keep thinking "what are we going to get out of the service?", so let us keep in mind the process of going through the borders and veils.

Sometimes folks on the more casual side of the Protestant churches easily forget the focus in our relationship with God is God, and not us. As we intentionally seek to "enter" towards obeying God's call to holy worship of Himself, let us recall we can rush through our Apostle's Creed, the Lord's Prayer, just as pompous and repetitious as any prayer Jesus was directly speaking of to his disciples (and to us thanks to Scripture).

I think of all the repetitive "praise songs" and "God as my sweetheart" hymns, the misuse of emotional manipulation worthy of a James Taylor concert, and worship teams that "pump-you-up" just like Arnold Schwarzenegger promised and fitness gurus through tomorrow continue to hype.

In the process of seeking to be holy and worship God as God commands and requires we are all ever starting in the most humble and vulnerable place. And God knows this, is not surprised by who we are and how we pretend to be. So be encouraged, seek first the Kingdom of God and God's Righteousness. Keep your mind on loving God with your whole person and being, so that you are not an idolater.

The lessons herein have been helpful to me to contemplate and seek to encourage myself and others to authenticity as the creatures of our Creator.

Woo Hoo. He made us, we must not pretend otherwise. The pretense is the way of the world, and humans have been failing like that since Cain offered illegitimate sacrifices and ended up killing his brother.

Peace of Christ to you and those whom you get to rub elbows with.
emoticon
May our prayers be inspired by God's Scripture to us.

I think of us tend to avoid people we don't like or get along with instead of showing them love. Maybe this is why we have no fruit in our own lives and our gifts are not being used as they should be.

I never thought of martyrdom as being a particular gift before.

In my earthly family, there are people who specialize in what has been called the "Churchian" art of offering the left-hand of fellowship. That's a polite way of saying it anyway. I still most often only afterward remember that God tells us to be at peace with everyone as much as it depends upon us.

Our renewing mind comes from continual baptism in the living water that wells up by God's gift to us. Let us gaze into the laver of God's provision in Scripture, instruction, and body life to see the image of Christ looking back at us. We are loved, which is utterly astounding to me regarding my own self.

Response to the Brass laver

Oh how I need to be washed in my life. I tend to judge others too quickly and avoid people. I know one woman who is hard to love. She gives other members in the church hugs but only shakes my hand. She will say hi but she does not spend a lot of time talking to me. Lord, cause me to love her like you do and to see her like you do. Forgive me and cause me to let go of any past hurts. Amen.

Response to the Altar of Sacrifice

I tried in the past to rectify and make right the relationship between my sisters. But my older sister refused to reconcile with me; she sent a letter stating that I broke off the relationship in the first place. Yes, I did only to stop accusations from flying back and forth after my mom ended up in the assisted living place. After she hollered at me because I was not there with mom in the hospital after she fell down outside. Totally forgetting that I have no other transportation than the senior bus on Tuesdays. I tried explaining things in a letter and saying how we felt and that at the time I thought we should keep our distances until things cooled down. I did not mean that we should cut off all contact. In her reply letter later she wrote and even sent my original letter back to me and said, " Read This."

At mom's funeral she was really cold towards us and the only time we hear from them now is when they send a Christmas card. God has to work in their hearts now I tried.

How we all need this to respond the right way when things go wrong instead of attacking others. I know at times i do not stop and listen to Jenny as i should and we end up fighting. So often I feel the Spirit restrain me when i want to lash out at someone because of what they have done or said. I know it was very hard to let it go when I was hurt; I silently cried my heart out.As humans we are more prone to act emotionally then rationally.

Laura, I find that, in my life, the more the Sanctuary principles become a part of me, the more quiet my heart becomes. When I make a mistake as with friendships, I can step back & ask what happened. Then the Lord can step in & show what happened & many times how to correct it. I don't know anywhere else to get that kind of guidance. It's not always instant like I want, but it's always healing when it comes.

I love what you said about friendships. I read about that a while back; only it was from a different source. Only very special friends are able to share their deepest thoughts like David and Johnathan. I know there were tow time when I had thought I had found a friend like that. The first one fell apart after our friend started harassing Jenny about her hair and her clothes. We had to leave the church and the friendship has been renewed but it is not the same as it was before. The second time I jumped the gun and thought God gave me the go ahead to become friendly with her and it turned out bad.

Then there are some like the ones on the van that I can only have casual relations with. They are not saved and their interests are different than mine. I cannot trust them with anything.
Others like at church are still in the courtyard I do not feel close to them.
But then there are my friends like you Linda and Ruth Ann who I can come clean with and know I can trust you. I thank God for both of you plus some women in the Warrior team.

Your welcome, Gregory, but I know we both know Who gave us this message that has been such a blessing so many of the lives of His people.

Laura, I know what you mean on both points. I still feel awkward in the praise area. I was raised that you NEVER praise anyone. In my head I know that's true, but in practice I search for words all too often. I have no trouble with the thank you part--gorgeous sunsets, deliverance from danger, my silly kitty...except when she's naughty...etc. But praise? I praise Him for His great patience & love!

I'm recalling my studies of the 5 books of Moses, and how the material I was critiquing for the school kept insisting on focusing on colors used in the structure. The author found significance in that, but then kept hammering away. So, your study is a delight to read, and I'll be walking through it thoughtfully and seeing what others add as well.

Thanks for sharing this.

I think a lot of the time when i used to pray I would only pray for my needs and not really spend enough time praising Him. I am learning to praise Him for all His attributes. I am learning to pray for others more even when I go for walks.

In response to flattery I think we are all guilty of that. Saying that someone is cute or pretty.,We do not think about what we are saying at all. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Hi Ruthann, Laura & Karri,

I appreciate all your comments! They are a blessing!

Karri, Carol had a small book but it has been a while back. I need to find out if there is one available that I could send you.

Carol is 10 1/2 years older than me (I'm 70). Right now she is in a different phase of life. Her husband (high school sweetheart) is nearing the end of his life (cancer & Alzheimers). She is a nurse & is devoting all her time to his care so that he can be at home for as long as possible. She does very little public speaking & almost no counseling anymore.

But we still get to learn from what God taught her almost 40 years ago.

Then when we get to heaven we will all be able to fellowship & learn through all eternity about the wonderful God whose greatest desire is to live in the hearts of His people & bathe us in a love we will never be able to reach the bottom of.

Becoming a child of God is a one time experience, but becoming more like Christ is a daily and on-going process until we go to live with Him. God is the gardener of our lives, he will take the weak things, prune, cut back, and make our lives a productive garden for him.

Linda, you covered the Hindrances to Prayers extremely well. Several of those have hindered my prayers at different times in my life.

About the Tribal Characteristics, I am unsure where I fit in. I know I have a zeal for the truth and want others to know it. I cannot compromise the truths just to get along. I do have a tendency to rush into things at times before thinking them through. When I know there is something I am to do, I give 100%. Whichever I am, I know I have a greater need to be more like Jesus. Oh that he would show and guide me.

Laura, I know exactly what you mean. It happened to me and took probably 9 months for me to be able to handle it. Then God gave me an opportunity to meet the person that hurt me so for I could "forgive her" and "ask forgiveness for bad thoughts I had of her". God healed that relationship. It did more out into the "court", as Linda described it and cannot be any further.

Response to the borders: Jesus is our protection and often He knows better than we do what we are capable of.When we refuse to listen to Him we end up hurting ourselves. In the past I have been hurt by others because i rushed into the relationship and did not consult God. My walls were broken down and I was hurt thinking that this was the one person who would be my true friend. We have to learn to say no to people's demands on us. We have to listen to what God is saying to us.

I think most of us come up short here in taking time to spend with our Lord in often earnest prayer. We let daily agendas interrupt or need to relax after a long day's work to make prayer time short and without a lot of heart to heart talk.

When we spend more time in prayer, it always ends up with a great self- desire to share Jesus with others. (to take time to care for what they are going through, to be their friend when they feel they have no other, to give loving, gently and godly advice when they want to lash out at the world)

It is God to gives us physical birth and watches over as we are formed. What a beautiful picture
the psalmist gives of that.
Then in his generous love, mercy and grace, the Holy Spirit draws us to realize who our creator is and much more. He shows us our need of the Father's gift of salvation made possible only through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Then it is just the beginning of our salvation. The Holy Spirit who is all knowing, all present, all powerful takes up residence within the believer to guide his life to rightful living. The Holy Spirit is in charge of the Fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, and the other 4 you listed, Linda). He blesses each person with one or more gifts that we can use for God's glory and to build up the Kingdom.

If we just still ourselves before God's presence, we would have a long time in expressing all his wonderful benefits. emoticon

Only God knows the hearts of all !!
We are to read God's word without adding or taking away from them as we allow the Holy Spirit to guide our lives in rightful living. Who are we to judge others? (Yet, we are all guilty from time to time emoticon )

All will stand before God in judgment one day; either the Bema Throne to give account of the way we lived our Christian lives, or in the Great White Throne Judgment as sinners to be separated from God for all eternity.

Isn't it amazing at times in our lives, we have preconceived notions about someone that is so faulty. It is like "judging a book by its cover". Some of the sweetest people that truly became close friends started out like this.

This is probably one of the hardest things to do, is go to some one you have offended or to some one who has offended you and talk about it. Too often people want to justified their own bad behaviors. When two people can face one another in brotherly love and share those hurtful things, forgive one another, it is like the effects of a fresh breath mint. It makes the inside feel so fresh. (One should never let the sun set on a bad situation, when it can be dealt with that day)

Often, when we do or say something that we should not have, instead of asking God's forgiveness, we want to be like Adam and Eve and go into hiding. When this happens, you only feel worse, dirty, guilty, ugh!!!!! Then when you finally approach the throne of mercy with 1 John 1:9 as your strength in confession and repentance, the tears flow and the guilt flees.

What would Jesus have me do when I face such times- as I do ever once in awhile!

I know He would want me to not jump to conclusions! Put myself in the other person's shoes!
(He that is without sin cast the first stone!! Ouch! )

I use to be very quick to respond to crisis before praying. Now, I am getting a little better about praying as the day starts about how to reaction in a God pleasing way when something happens unexpectedly. This keeps down the self guilt later emoticon .
When I do this it reminds me of all the many times throughout my life that my Lord has been patient and kind toward me when he had ever reason not too.

I never thought about all the different points you made about the level of friendships as being connected to the Tabernacle.
It is said that "you can count on one hand your true friends"....hmm,...maybe these would be the ones at the deepest level that you described. HUBSAND for sure, for me. MY MOTHER was definitely there. Then there are only a very few I have ever let get near that close. I do believe there are friends that proves to be closer than a brother. These are the friends that are patient with you, when you can be annoying, accept your faults in spite of yourself. (vice versa) Friends that you can share with like no other except in the deepest level.
Won't it be wonderful when we are in eternity with our God and all redeemed saints that we can have perfect friend/fellowship with. emoticon

I guess it sounds like I am bragging on people at times when I should be more careful in the way I mean it from my heart. I hate flattery, for it is not a bit profitable or desirable.

When I thank you for starting this team and all its wonderful posts, I am really trying to say, "Thank you for allowing you to be a "voice and pen" as you use this talent/gift for the Lord's Glory. I have never had anyone else to present such as this.

I praise the Lord for your love for him and your concern for others to learn.

The Topic of "Borders"

How wonderful it is to be protected by the assurance of the blood of Jesus for eternity when it comes to salvation. He is the door and he is the guard of that precious entrance. Praise be unto the Father and Holy Spirit !

When I was a young adult, I thought I had to say "Yes" to everything asked of me when it comes to church. However, I know there is a verse in Philippians where God determines and wills something into our lives. I guess I am not saying this very good. A person knows when God is asking them to do something for him. It is the deepest yearning he places within our hearts and we can't be content without yielding to it.

It is not the size of a job in the eyes of humans that matters. There is no such "small and insignificant" matter in God's eyes. There use to be a song I sang as a child that expresses it best, "Little is Much When God Is In It".

Thank you Linda, for posting this and having us to revisit this in our lives. We must not be too busy "doing" and not be busy in "what counts for God's glory"

How wonderful your sister was in inspiring this topic to such a high degree in many places throughout the world. Is she still active in all of this?

Thank you, Linda, for going into much depth as you undertake this needful topic. So many do not connect the tabernacle to Christ but leave it as a place in Israel's past.
