Clearly, I'm a Dr. Who fan; however, I think the words at the top of my page are a fitting tribute to my battle with food. Not weight. Food. Weight doesn't make me fat, food does. Thus, the Weeping Angels are a metaphor for food in my life (and really, for those in the Whoverse, is there anything truly scarier?). I have to stay vigilant and not blink or I'm a goner.

I believe vigilance is the key to this journey and complacency is the lock. (Wow, I'm just full of metaphors.) I never struggled with weight growing up. In fact, I was downright scrawny. It wasn't until my late 20's that I started having problems. Since then, I've been within 15 pounds of goal (numerous times, *sigh*), and start getting complacent. I'm sure in psychobabble this would be called "self-sabotage."

With all of this knowledge at my fingertips and years of analyzing my eating habits, triggers, etc., you'd think I'd have this thing down pat. Alas, not so much. So, here I am making my way in this world today, taking everything I've got (any Cheers fans out there?).

I need to refocus on me. Actually, I need to find a new motivation--clearly what worked a year and a half ago, isn't working now.

My Goals:
I'd love to get healthy without relying on willpower alone. It's so exhausting to stay focused (no blinking!). If someone knows the answer, please share. lol

I want... improve my 5K pace. workout AT LEAST 30 minutes 4 times a week. Obviously, more is great, but I want my minimum to be attainable. inner thighs to be enemies and never touch again. belly button to be shallow and not the abyss. skin and hair to glow with health.

    You are way too hard on yourself, my friend! I did not read anything at all condescending in your other message - just support! :)

    Things have been really busy here, as we're trying to wrap up work stuff and life stuff before our big trip to New Zealand! We leave in a couple hours for the airport, and then will spend about 33 hours traveling to get to Queenstown. It's going to be such a looooooooong series of flights, but I'm proud of myself for losing some weight before the trip. As I was trying on clothes and packing, everything fit more comfortably, which is always a good sign!

    I still have a lot more weight to lose, but I'm hoping that all our hiking and fun adventures in NZ (for 3.5 weeks!) will keep me from backtracking on the weight loss, even if I don't start losing again until we get back. Wish me luck!!

    Thanks so much for your encouragement! PCOS seems so scary to me, but it's helpful to be reminded that women can get pregnant despite all kinds of challenges, including PCOS!

    My doctor's plan for me is basically: 1) lose as much weight as possible between now and when we want to start trying for a family (since weight loss improves symptoms for many with PCOS), and 2) once we start trying, if we have no luck for 3-4 months, then start fertility treatments.

    We want to start trying next summer (when my husband finishes his master's program), so that gives me about 6 months to lose as much as I can. In some ways, maybe I needed this to happen - it's certainly helping me stay motivated. This is the first year that I can remember losing weight during Thanksgiving!

    What has happened in the last couple weeks for to you stop tracking? Lots of stress?

    BTW, if you want a tracking accountability buddy, if you ever want to try tracking on MyFitnessPal, we could be friends on there and get daily notifications about whether we finished tracking for the day, to help hold each other accountable:)

    Hey, my friend!

    How have you been?

    I've had a rough couple weeks - on top of the crazy political turmoil going on, I received a diagnosis of PCOS (which is scary, since 70% of women diagnosed with PCOS have infertility, and my husband and I were hoping to start a family next year), and my sweet nephew was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and has been the hospital for a week!

    It's been tough, emotionally, but I'm incredibly proud of myself for sticking to my eating plan like glue! It seems like a miracle that I have not turned to stress-eating. It has helped that I joined Overeaters Anonymous, and have been attending their free group support meetings twice a week.

    How is your health (and general life!) journey going lately?
