51 year old, formerly very athletic, fallen behind in recent years due to kids and business travel (I know- not a good excuse). Vegetarian in my 20's and quite fit, now about 75lbs over ideal weight - it was a slow slippery slide into blobdom. Mountain bike riding is my passion, but have had a littany of injuries the last few years. I realize they are probably due to weight and poor diet.

Mid January 2012 I started on an adapted Primal-style nutritional and lifestyle plan. My health improved immediately - like the next day digestive upsets disappeared - energy increased, sleep is better and I have lost about 40 pounds.

Sometime around March I noticed my hunger had changed. In the past when I got hungry I was desperate for food - now I was just hungry and could eat, but could also wait to eat. Cravings subsided dramatically.

I started working to learn to listen to the food signals my body was sending and it became clear I didn't need to eat as often. I started Intermittent fasting, not as a protocol, but just by eating when I was hungry, which usually means not until about 11 am and then again at 7 pm. I have two big meals at that's about it.

Since the summer riding season has started, I burn about 1,000 cal. per day on the bike and have noticed I am now hungry between meals and have a snack around 2pm.

My Goals:
Started this journey at 297lbs - goal is to get back to 240 - Done!

3-9-12 - new goal - 220.

I have been forced to change my picture of what's possible. I thought 240 would be skinny, but as I am now +/- 245, I know when I lose 5 more pounds I would still have fat on my body, so 220 - here I come. And really, picking an ideal weight is just a guess - I'll know when I get there.

My Program:
Mostly primal diet - no grains or processed foods and few legumes. Carbs below 80g/day - almost all from veggies. Eat lots of fat and moderate protein.
In winter, I trail hike with my dog 5 - 6 times/week - lots of elevation changes, so a good workout. Body weight strength train 4x/week and play hockey once a week. In summer I mountain bike ride daily.

Personal Information:
Live about an hour outside Toronto, ON, Canada. Grew up on a farm, lived in the big city for about 15 years and back to half way between city and rural living.

Other Information:
My modus operandi seems to be "you don't know how far you can go until you have gone too far"

The purpose of a goal is not to achieve said goal - the purpose is to create motion in a desire direction.
