I am Anika, proud mom, vegan, baker, foodie, graduate student, and autism advocate. I was a competitive athlete for most of my life before packing on over 100 lb with my first pregnancy. In 2008 I found Sparkpeople, which sparked a rebirth in my athleticism and led to dropping 70 lb. I felt fantastic! Then 2 years later, after a very difficult pregnancy, a diagnosis of ovarian cancer & 3 complicated surgeries, I gained it all back. In 2010 I lost the baby weight and more (120 lb!) ), only to slowly gain most of it back again through stress eating. Over the past 6 years I have gained and lost hundreds of pounds, fluctuating over 80 lbs (yes, the pattern forming here is definitely that of a yo yo!).
I'm now cancer free, and a working hard trying to balance family, school and fitness without succumbing to my old unhealthy patterns. So now it's time to make permanent, sustainable changes!
In 2015 I became 100% vegan, and am trying to get my running back on track after an injury in the winter that sidelined me for months

    8 minutes is crazy right?? Just goes to show all the 1/2 training helps! Also shows me I could have run the 1/2 even faster, so that will be my next do, new 1/2 PR!! Maybe a full next year, who knows!!

    I think that's so awesome. I used to be over 300lbs as well and finally got down to under 290, but I want to run!! Still feels like I'm too heavy. Seeing you in your pics and how far you've come is so inspiring! I would love to know how you started your running routine. Any pointers? emoticon
