As an adult, weight maintenance has been a life long battle for me. It seems that I am either losing weight or gaining weight, largely determined by what is going on in my life at the time. I have tried about every diet plan out there over the years and they all work to take the weight off, but it is the keeping the weight off that I struggle with. While appearance was the most important motivating factor when I was younger, now I want to stay as healthy as I can for as long as I can. I love to travel and I need to be able to walk if I am going to see and do all of the things that I still want to enjoy.

My Goals:
My overall goal is to live a healthier lifestyle. I am tired of dieting only to regain the weight again. I want to incorporate moderate exercise and wiser food choices into my every day routine so I can get off this roller coaster of weight gain and loss. I do not, however, want to spend the rest of my life feeling like I am on a diet!

My Program:
I function best when it does not feel like a diet, so I am trying to adapt healthy eating to my lifestyle.I try and avoid fried floods, sweets, fast food, and especially buffets.Yes, there are healthy choices on buffets, but I end up eating way too much and can't resist higher calorie foods that I would not have ordered off the menu. In the beginning, restaurants are usually something that I avoid. However that is not always possible. For example, this is Restaurant Week and many of the best restaurants offer 3 course lunches for only $10. This means that I will be eating in restaurants for lunch 2x and dinner once this next week. If I give these up, I am missing important social interactions so I need to be able to adapt healthy eating and still be able to fit special occasions into my life. I also enjoy a glass of wine with a friend on Saturday and Sunday evenings, so I have to fit those in too. If I cut out these social interactions I will feel deprived and that will eventually lead

Personal Information:
I am a social eater, but that is usually controlled. What I really have to be careful of is emotional eating. I am a carb freak especially if I am bored or feeling sad or in any way stressed out. I love to bake, but then I can't seem to control myself. Baking cookies on a cold, snowy day feels very warm and comforting, but is an invitation to binge,

Other Information:
I like the website as it deals with the psychology of overeating.I have learned that no one diet works for everyone and that we all stumble. Learning to pick yourself up when you stumble is an important skill in stopping the roller coaster effect. I learned that you have to find out what works for you. I have also learned that there are two danger signals for me. The first is at the point where I give myself permission to binge. It may not look like a binge in the beginning, but it involves eating unhealthy foods to an excess and telling myself that it will just be tonight or this week or for a specific period of time. This becomes a free for all in which I try and cram as much delicious food as possible into this period of time and in the end I can't seem to stop. The next danger signal for me is when I tell my self that this time I have it mastered and don't have to watch what I am eating nor plan ahead--overconfidence!.
