Craig Ballantyne, author of "The Perfect Day Formula" - How to Own the Day and Control Your Life, says one should set positive rules (not merely goals) for living.

First, I have 5 Mantras which guide me, They are:

1. I AM IN CHARGE OF MY JOY
I am in charge as to how my life and circumstances affect me. Only I can decide my own outlook on life. I choose to live my life to its fullness with joy for my life.

2. I HAVE A HIGHER POWER THAT SERVES ME
I have everything that I need to live my life successfully through the inner power of God, or of the universe. I don't need the approval of others, for I look within my soul and the written word of trusted authority, as clarified through my soul, to guide my life. I am not a puppet of the world's opinions.

3. I TURN FAILURES INTO SUCCESS
My failures strengthen and empower me because I accept the present and move on from there with no regrets for the past. Setbacks have and will always occur, but they are only temporary as I am stronger for them; and, I will always find a way to endure and overcome them so that my life has a positive meaning for others.

4. I MAKE EMPOWERING CHOICES
Everything in life is an opportunity to grow, there's always a lot of opportunity around me. Every minute is a chance to reflect and a chance to make empowering choices that lead me further towards my goals. I choose what my goals in life are and will daily make choices that reflect positively on my goals.

5. I WILL PERSEVERE
I will remain positive and focus on what is beautiful and wondrous about myself and my surroundings. I know that I have made mistakes in my past as have everyone else, but I am strong enough to persevere in spite of them. I will live a wholesome, inspirational, healthy and joyous life because I will persevere through all things by the guidance of my soul.

Also, I follow the following 13 rules based on examples in Craig's book, but the details vary. They are set below.

1. I go to bed at 9:00 PM and rise at 5:00 AM daily.
2. I eat only clean healthy foods, and no later than 7 pm
3. I write for at least 60 minutes first thing every morning or until Kim gets up.
4. I respect all others regardless of race, politics, creed or who they are, unless it is necessary to report them to the police or other authority.
5. I create a to do list at the start of every day and abide by it by making it my priority.
6. I guide myself by two phrases: A) “other opinions matter less” I can only work at my goal of living a conservative life and helping others – the opinions of others do not control, and B) “It will be over in time” – Everything good and bad must come to an end, I must enjoy and make use of the good, and persevere through the bad until I have beaten it.
7. Everything, good and bad, that happens to me is my personal responsibility, I will not make excuses by blaming others. This is my life and my choice. I accept the consequences of my actions.
8. I seek to help others transform their lives by being a lighthouse to the true possibilities of living a meaningful life.
9. I eat only healthy food in proper portions, and I will exercise regularly at least 250 minutes each week.
10. I always keep the child within me alive, I will make time to have fun.
11. I write and blog with feeling about what I think matters.
12. I keep in touch with family members and encourage them to excel and live a full and healthy life.
13. I will not be a person that I don’t want to be. I will not be petty, jealous, frivolous, envious, or any of those lazy emotions. I do not gossip or speak unkindly of others, no matter who I am with or what environment I am in. I will not be negative and will not hurt others. I know the environments, situations that I must avoid, and will in fact avoid them, even if it means losing relationships with others. It is my life and that matters more than what others think of me.

Fitness Minutes: 11,030

My Goals:
Help my 4 daughters and their families grow,
Exhibit a caring heart
Keep in touch with my brothers, sister and their families.
Be a mentor to others including family members.
Keep fit physically and mentally.


My Program:
Spend at least 650 minutes a month exercising.
Eat wholesome foods in proper proportions
Spend at least 10 minutes daily keeping a journal
And make an effort to bless others

Grew up in Washington, DC and attended night school at George Washington University
Retired US Primary Patent Examiner. I started as a GS2 file clerk in the Patent Office at age 18 and retired after 37 years at my fiance's (now my wife) insistence.
Have 1 sister, 3 brothers, 4 daughters (all from a prior marriage, but who I keep in touch with), 9 grandchildren, and 2 great grandsons
