Iris corms really do belong close to the surface of the soil, generally visible: and won't bloom if they are too deep. So yours may have heaved themselves up to their preferred locale!

And really, it's all about the plants' preferred locale. I could NOT grow bleeding hearts anywhere in my Ontario garden, tried several locations (although my sister the Master Gardener has had no problems with her Ontario garden) -- and the vendor of our PEI house said SHE tried 3 locations here before she found just the right spot. Part of the fun of being here is getting a second chance with so many plants that I love that just weren't right for the Ontario climate . . . but I know there are things I loved in Ontario I won't be able to grow here. My beloved pink ruffly Oriental poppies, for example . . .
