Hello Everyone! I've been on a weight loss journey for a longtime now and have never had lasting success. I just love food way to much! I've been a type 2 diabetic since 2007 and until 2017 controlled it with diet and exercise. Started metformin then and have struggled with finding enough motivation to get off of it, even when my 500mg dose was upped to 850mg. However, feeling like crap while on the med (especially the 850mg) has made me somewhat more determined to get off of the med. My 6 month checkup will be on 1/31 and while I am not expecting a miracle I do hope to see a little improvement in my A1C.
Update 2/5/18
~So had my 6 month check up with my PC, A1C was unchanged from July, not what I wanted but I have a starting point and goals to shoot for.
Update 3/5/18
~Just a few days after my last update, I went to a Macronurtrient Seminar at a local Paleo/Whole 30 restaurant and decided to start a journey with the macro coach that taught the class.
Today is the beginning of my Week 3, still learning and still having some bad days but overall this is the motivation I need to reach my goals. Things may need to be tweeked over time but that is ok

Update 5/15/2018
~I have been on my nutrition journey now for 13 weeks with my coach. It was a rocky start and the first 6 weeks were rough to say the least, but I stuck with it and am making slow but sure progress. The saying that weight loss is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise is quite true because it is mostly diet modification that has me at a solid 10 pound loss currently. The gym I was attending did not have regular hours and was open around the owners work schedule which varied from week to week. I found out the first of May that he wasn't going to be able to continue being open after May. So, yesterday I joined a new gym with regular hours and I am planning to be there 3 possibly 4 times per week in hopes that I will have a little faster progress.

Even in to week 13, I am still active and engaged in the process. In the past, I have been burned out and done with a program way before then and had therefore never had lasting success. This time around is different because I am doing this for my health and to regulate my blood sugar levels without the help of medication. So far that hasn't completely happened, BS levels are better but not where I want them to be in order to discontinue taking my medicine. Better is better though and it gives me continued goals in which to meet.

I have a check up scheduled for the 5th of June to check labs again so I will update after I get those results.

June 5th Lab check--
Good progress made with A1C down from 7.0 in January to 6.2 now.
While my cholesterol level had not changed, my doctor chose to increase my cholesterol meds because my levels while not high were not where she wants them to be. I'm on the fence about this, I don't really feel it is necessary. I resent taking medicine period, but I really resent that cholesterol medicine. We'll see how long I last taking it.
I've lost about 15 pounds and 6 inches total body.
Lots of NSVs and SVs as well. It is a journey and sometimes I wonder if it is all worth it and the answer without a doubt is yes! Progress has been slow but steady even now and while sometimes it is discouraging overall it is all progress.

Each choice I make either moves me closer or further away from my goal. But I am making conscience decisions and I accept the consequences (good or bad) of those decisions and move on.

Update 8/30/2018
Today my fasting BS was 86! I've been working really hard to get that number down and specifically my fasting. Cannot express my excitement over this! More motivation to keep on going. Eating well and exercise really do work. Keep on pushing Sparkers!
Update 10/6/18
Not to much to update on currently, just pushing ahead and making progress to my goals. I'm recommitting to my journey. I outlined some new goals I set for myself in my September 19th blog and the first deadline is coming up quickly. I've made progress to the goal and am trying my dead level best to get there!
Update 2/13/19
Haven't updated in a while but was able to make it through the holidays unscathed! YAY ME! I was in a maintenance phase with my nutrition coach and while my weight fluctuated during that time, overall I didn't gain and even more telling was I lost about 5 inches during this time. So my body composition was changing even though the weight wasn't. The scale doesn't have a hold over me like it has previously. Because of the consistency I've maintained with hitting my numbers every day and with working out the results are there, in the measurements and the pictures. I've learned to trust the process. Has it been easy? No. Are there times I'm still super frustrated by the process? Yes. Has it been worth it? DEFINITELY!!!

My next check up for my A1C numbers is in March so I'll give another update at that time!

3/15/19 Update
Had a check up with my PC on 3/6 that went really well. I'm down to probably the lowest recorded weight I have ever been possibly in my life and definitely at this facility and I've been going to the same doctor office since I was an adult basically!
A1C was down slightly from last October and all my other labs were normal as well. My doctor still would like for me to take a cholesterol medicine and I am still just as opposed to it. She feels I need it just for protection from heart issues due to have diabetes but I don't see the need. :/
But it really shows that consistency pays off even if a scale doesn't show it!

12/5/2019 Update
Lots to update, I went for a 6 month check up in September and I was taken off all my medicine. My A1C is normal, not just normal for someone with diabetes, but normal!!! I am so proud of myself. It's been hard work, but so incredibly worth it. The best thing of all is my hubby is joining me in this journey. We are doing completely different programs but he is starting to see some good results.
10/17/2020 Update

WHEW! What a crazy year it has been. Started the year off with a bucket list cruise to the Caribbean for 8 wonderful days, then we'd been home about 2 weeks and then *!*! hit the fan :(

Was able to work full time for a bit but got knocked down to part time around the end of April. Thankful to still be able to work though. Due to a co-worker having surgery, I was able to go back to full time in July. Changed jobs after she came back in September and have been really enjoying the change. I've had two check-ups with my PC so far and she told me that I have been doing so well these last few years that after my appointment in March of 2021 (if all looks good still) I can go back to yearly check ups!! What motivation!!

Sort of been in a funk lately, but I have SO MUCH to be thankful for: my health and the health of my family, we've thankfully weathered the storm well so far. I have had extended family members sick, but none in my immediate family. I've still got a job and actually changed jobs with better hours, benefits and more pay. There are so many people struggling right now and I don't take the fact that my husband and I have not lost our income at all lightly.
My gym was a casualty of the virus unfortunately. I sorely miss my gym family. We are scattered over a pretty large area and there is no gym close that we could all go to that fits our schedules/needs. I am very blessed to have a nice home gym with a good amount of equipment to continue my fitness journey. I will eventually re-join a gym but just taking my time right now.
I also "fired" my nutrition coach. I just thought it was time I moved on and see what else is out there for me. I have a good base knowledge of nutrition and I know how to calculate my numbers. I'm still going to count macros (carbohydrates, protein and fat) for right now.
