My name is Dawn, but in my family usually called me Sissy. Because all the "Sissy" names I wanted were already taken, I ended up admitting to my month and year of birth in my name. But I don’t really mind people knowing how old I am...I am blessed to have lived this long!

Fitness Minutes: 333,500

My Goals:
To lose 70 lbs, and be healthier because of regular exercise and change in diet. 2020 started to consciously eat more whole plant based food, with limited dairy and meat. I like to think of it as trying to be healthy and yet flexible as needed. It has worked well during the Covid 19 crisis for me.


My Program:
Love the 5%:Challenges. Minimum Exercise of some sort for 15 minutes each day and Usually go to the pool for water walking 3 times a week. Our pool closed due to Covid 19. Update April 2021... Oh joy, oh bliss, the pool is open again for me after 14 months!



Personal Information:
I am originally from the US, currently living in Canada on the west coast. I am Franciscan Poor Clare Sister. I had a left knee replacement 13 years ago and have put the replacement for the other knee on hold. These metal parts DO NOT make me function (or look) like the old Bionic Woman! At this point the exercise I can do, and mobility I have is limited. I am limited to walking, riding a bike and swimming, so I do have options. I had open heart surgery in my 20s, and now At 70 have some residual damage showing, so have had both a cardioversion, and three years later a cardiac ablation. So good so far. But sodium really does me in! In 2020 I was enrolled in a multi approach program by my cardiologist and following that we are trying to do more whole plant based eating. It am finding it makes a real difference in my body which is healthier for me.
I was an Air Traffic Controller in the US Navy until 1981 when I joined the Poor Clares. I am an avid reader, love to cook and bake.


Other Information:
Lost 35 lbs the first year I joined, but then put it back on. Started to change to more Whole food plant based eating in March 2020 which has allowed me to lose 40 pounds even with Covid 29. Now to continue to lose the last 30 lbs. I am off several medications eating this way, and all my lab numbers are in the optimum range. That is enough to convince me to stick with it.
