I am your still your typical crazy 54 year old "Calgon Take Me Away, Super Woman" who struggles to find time for herself and this journey to health, as seen by the long 8 year break. When last I was on this page I was "a wife, mother to a teenage daughter, a teenage son, 72 year old Father-in-law (he is my biggest tattle-taler so might as well be third child) and a full time worker. My household was made up of the five of us, 5 dogs and at the boarding barn, Hot Rock "Rocky" my 7 year old Appy gelding and I can't forget Senior Fuzzy Jugz, my daughter's hamster."

Today I am facing divorce, my ex and his mistress live in our old house, I purchased a townhouse, my son lives with me while in college and only one of the dogs is with me plus two cats. My beautiful horse developed DSLD/ESPA and I recently sent him over the rainbow bridge. So many changes and new beginnings this year, the perfect time to create a new healthier me.

So how did I get here? I developed a fear of sitting in those white plastic chairs after watching a video of a man, not much heavier then I was at the time, sitting in one and seeing it collapse and knowing that could be me. That was the starting motivation or fear. But I did nothing about it until early in March 2006 when my hubby announced he was going to join a gym with a friend. I saw it as my opportunity to join too and start working toward getting healthier, losing weight and improving my life.

My Sparks experience started a few months later when I hit my first bump in my journey and Cheyjoecat(Tawanda) introduced me to this site.

I've hit some bumps, ok many in the road over the last few years and thanks to my friends on this site always seem to find my way back. This last year was the worst bump as I well off the wagon into a pool of sweets, never ending sweets. It is amazing how hard it is to ween yourself to only small amounts of "treats" and how fast the need for alot of sugar comes back. After my second major migraine after over indulging in sweets I realized my body could no longer handle it and it was time to get in the wagon and start my journey again.

For me, believing that I deserve time to work on me combined with balance seem to be the key. Both are hard, but when I eat, drink, sleep, exercise and share in the inspiration (teams) here on this site and with family/friends, my life is in balance and the weight comes off. I get off balance, put myself last or let too much stress into my life and on it comes again.

My starting goal was to lose 108 pounds putting me at 150 pounds, a weight I haven't been since Junior High School. It would put me just at the edge of a healthy weight. When I reach it, and I will, I'll re-evaluate.

Phase I, My Beginning: 258.8 pounds (Ex says I was in 260's but this is my first recorded weight after working out a few weeks)
20% - 236.4 pounds (Met 8/26/06)
25% - 231 pounds (Met 9/4/06)
40% - 214.8 pounds (2/10/07)
50% - 204 pounds (Met 10/29/07)
Lowest weight achieved in this stage of journey- 200 pounds!

Phase II - Big BUMP and Yo-yoing back and forth for three years now. At the end of 2008 Mr. Scale read 219.5 and on 12/31/09 it read 222.0 pounds! When I stepped on Mr. Scale 1/1/11 it was 228.4 and over 2010 I had been down to 210 at one point. Are you seeing what I am? I seem to be "comfortable at about 215.

Well this journey is a learning experience. So what did I learn over the last three years? In September 2008, I thought the change was mainly a result of unbalance, unhappiness, stress, and a sense of loss (even if it is something as simple as your home or objects you attach memoris to that are stored away from you). All these play a very key role in having balance in my life. Another review at the end of December 2008 and I realized that I had lost ME - yep that small part that allowed me the selfishness to work toward being healthier. It was buried under all the "can you..." from work and family. I was right back to were I was years ago, putting myself last and believing I didn't have a right to any time to work on myself- yep no walking at lunch - so much to do had to work through lunch, home to cook, clean, shop, make sure homework done, then crash in bed to repeat the next day - sound familiar?!?!?! I went into 2009 with this knowledge, but still saw a year of ups and downs with my weight and less and less exercise.

At the end of December 2009 I took serious look at my life. What did I do differently at the beginning of this journey that I'm not doing now? Planning, scheduling on a monthly calendar, allowing myself to be a bit selfish, challenges, competitions. But mainly organizing and planning my exercises and tracking calories, exercise minutes and water on a calendar! Goals are great, but without planning, tracking and self challenges/compeitions the goals meant nothing as I wasn't working toward meeting them!

So now the picture is a little clearer. For me to stay on this journey I need balance, goals, a little selfishness, competition, challenges, planning and tracking. It is with this new and existing knowledge that I went into 2010. But without balance and allowing myself time I started to founder, then in early summer my job functions temporarily changed and I found that the co-workers I was training/helping liked to say thank you with sweets, which was very nice but within weeks the cravings for suger extended beyond treats left on my desk.

I move now into the end of 2011 with renewed hope, goals and knowledge of some of what works and what doesn't. I can I have learned that I am persistant, not consistant, but persistent.

Between 2011-2019 lots of changes and demands - new position, homeschooled daughter in addition to working full time, lots of demands and heartbreak in 2017 after finding my husband was having an affair and wanted me out to move her in.

My Goals:
My goal for 2012 is to stay motivated and follow through. Negative voice, be gone!This year's journey will lead to a better, fitter, healthier, happier Stephanie!

My Program:
Stay daily in my Calorie Range (1200 and 1450 calories).

Drink at least 8 glasses of H2O.

Complete some type of cardio 3-4 times a week.

Strength train twice a week. Either two full body workouts or split it into Upper Body one day and Lower Body the next.

Lots and lots of crunches!!!

Get at least 7 hours of sleep nightly!

Follow the rule "Kitchen closes at 8:30pm each night!"

My name is Stephanie and I am originally from Aberdeen, Washington. Since 1988 I have been on East coast (2 years NY and the rest in Mayland). Guess that makes me a Marylander now!

Other Information:
Thanks to Sparks, I am finally at a place in my life where I have the energy and motivation to step up to the plate and support a cause very dear to my heart - Breast Cancer Research or more specifically The Susan G Komen's Race for the Cure as their goals and work in the communities is awesome.

I have now completed five 5K races in D.C. (June 2, 2007 and June 7, 2008, June 2009 and June 2010) and one for MD Komen Race for Cure (10/19/08).
2011 will find me continuting with my efforts to support a great organization while honoring the memory of my mom who died of Inflammatory Breast Cancer in July 1990.

    The flowers and blossoms are filling the air with the smells of Spring. This is the time to start preparing for the Summer. Are you ready to join a Challenge? The Biggest Loser Challenge is looking for members for it’s next Challenge starting the first week of June. The challenge consists of 11 Teams, that participate in 10 weeks of Nutritional and Fitness Challenges.
