Well ...

I first joined SparkPeople in 2008, quit and rejoined many times and finally gave up. I just could not make myself follow ANY program for more than a couple of weeks, and I tried them all, including not having a program. I have been a dieting failure, life change failure and non-dieting failure. I just haven't been able to convince myself that the pain of denying my hunger is worth the result. Yet, I also have been unable to convince myself that just letting myself go is fine. My dream is to become a normal eater and to find the balance within myself that will cause that to happen. It's not just about the food and exercise but about acceptance, love and healing the emotions underlying the whole process.

In 2021, I'm going to do a plan that is a little bit more structured: I am returning to a calorie limited, lower carb plan with one "free" meal per week. Exercise is a minimum of 30 minutes outside (I can do that here in Florida all year round). Will this be the right time and the right way for me? We'll see! One thing I know for sure, in my lifetime of dieting, this kind of program is the only one that worked for weight loss. Now, weight maintenance, that's a whole other mountain to climb when I get to it. :)

My Goals:
Heal my body, mind and spirit. There's a synergy between the three that can cause one to soar upwards or spiral downwards. I vastly prefer soaring.

My Program:
Structured eating plan; daily exercise, daily prayer and meditation, daily reaching out to others who struggle.

Personal Information:
Married, no children, one dog. Retired. Used to be: personnel director, psychotherapist, legal secretary/assistant and in that order! Found that in my work life, as in my diet life, I preferred less ambiguity and more tangible results.

Other Information:
I say I'm an older woman with enough education to know how little I know but not enough to stop pretending I know something. Although, I will confess, that more and more, I doubt if I actually know anything.
