Considering Running w/Walking

I've already noticed it's harder to get my heart rate up to a good cardio level with my walking than it was a month ago, a result of getting fitter over the last two months.
Been reading all the articles here on SparkPeople and think I'm going to add running into my walks.
Best suggestion I've found is start a week with a one minute run, then walk four minutes...doing this for four repetitions and a total of 20 minutes three times...think I'll start with this next week, maybe Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The following weeks you add more running and reduce the walking minutes incrementally.
I think I better look for a running shoe.
