reminder to self: slow down while eating!

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

I am still keeping to my 3 small meals a day -- but I am definately eating too fast.

Last night, while it was not a full PB, I felt a very uncomfortable feeling in my esophagus while eating dinner. I guess not all flatbreads are made the same! I usually can eat well toasted pieces of flatbread, but not the Subway flatbreads... too gooey I think. But I could sense as I was eating that I was eating too quickly... chewing a lot, but eating too fast for what I was eating (cold cuts, lettuce, jalapenos, olives..) anyway I stopped eating and then I was able to sip some hot tea and felt better -- but it was certainly an abbreviated meal for the evening.

I am trying to stick to mushy foods today just in case I irritated my band site.

I got on the scale today and yay! it went down another pound. I'll take it. I am so frustrated, though, that this lap band is not allowing me to lose weight at a little faster pace. Everyone is different - guess I am in the turtle camp! Then again, losing 29 lbs. in 7 weeks isn't too shabby I ... an average of 4 lbs. a week. I know you understand, though, we want the weight off like yesterday!!

My hunger is at a good level, except for last night. I had eaten a lighter than usual breakfast and lunch (hubby had some medical tests so I was not around good food so I picked at a little bit of food) and my abbreviated dinner meant I was starving around 7 p.m. I had to run to the store and buy milk and boy, were those Drakes cakes and Hostess cakes calling my name at the check-out counter! But I withstood the temptation. I know I was starving exactly because I had NOT followed the bandster rules... eat slow, eat protein, and drink lots of water. So, my bad. Today it is back on track! Meals of mostly protein, and s-l-o-w eating.

Girl....I feel your pain! Last night my eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach...I ate that tostada WAY too fast! I try to stick with the old addage that you put your fork down after every bite and wait until it is all chewed....sometimes that doesn't work though...know what I mean emoticon

As for the weight loss...that will come with time...just be patient. I have averaged about 7lbs a month. Some months were more, some less. It has been 15 months since my surgery...

You are doing great though! Keep up the good work.

Yes, I've fallen pray to eating to fast. But, AMEN & AMEN to slow down and taste the food. You are doing great, we all have the knowledge but sometimes we think a little slip here or there won't matter. Well, we can heap stories of that but that does not matter. We are on journey and we are all winners.

Keep up the great job, a slow down.

I had RNY and I am at 30 lbs in 8 weeks. I heard it would fall off quicker but I have to appreciate all I have lost. And yes we want it off sooner but in due time. You are doing a great job. I am proud of you for not caving in and getting the junk stuff at the check out area. Great job. Take every pound as it comes.

Take Care and God Bless ! ! !
