Countdown to Grand Canyon Trip Has Begun!

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

It's hard to believe today is already August 5th, and we (Nancy and Gerry) will be departing for our Grand Canyon and Albuquerque trip in one month. We will be leaving on Labor Day Saturday, September 5th. We also plan on meeting up with another couple from SparkPeople/RV Enthusiasts Team at the Grand Canyon, FAIRYINPURPLE and HERSIR.

I've got most of my RV prep. done, and am in a fairly good position around the house to be leaving for a month, I'm sure I've forgotten something but we'll get by. I will have to close up the pool early.

I am mildly concerned about maintaining my weight range, but I plan on trying to stick with the program for the most part. My daily walking could be the hardest part to achieve while traveling, I'll just have to make time at the end of each day somehow.

I do have a couple web pages/sites out there detailing the trip, and hopefully I will be updating My Trip Journal regularly. If anyone wants to subscribe to my trip journal, use the button on the right side of the page to "request updates", or send me your email and I will "invite" you.

On my solo return trip I will be stopping in Cincinnati for the Spark Your Life Convention on September 26th as well, so it will be a welcome rest stop. I will be camping and spending time in Ohio with another RV Enthusiasts team member, SHARONSPARKLE and her husband.

Southwest USA here we come!

I arrive back home on Monday September 28th, just in time for bowling that night. I'll be home trying to catch up on business requirements, bills and paperwork, but then Nancy and I head right back out in the RV for our annual mini rally at Danforth Bay Camping Resort in Freedom NH from October 8th to the 12th. Hope we still have the desire to get back out on the road by then.

The trip planned sounds so awesome! A "million years ago" when I was nine, my whole family drove out to Grand Canyon and Albuquerque in our big old station wagon! 5 of us in the wagon...what a fun crazy trip. We had family (at the time) in New Mexico, so, visiting them was a big part of the trip, but, (even though I was nine) I still remember the awesomeness of the Grand Canyon. I would LOVE to do that trip again now with my kids! Enjoy every moment of the trip! Wishing you a safe and fun journey!

Gerry ... Your trip sounds exciting ... what a great adventure, and as a bonus you get to meet team mates during the course of your travels. I've subscribed to your blog and can't wait to follow you and Nancy, Gina and Don and Sharon and Larry. I hope there are plenty of pictures posted as well as the narrative.

I am sooooo jealous!!! Seeing the Grand Canyon. And you get to meet fellow Sparkers as well. Wow, that would be heaven for me. I will definitely follow your journals.

I know what you mean about maintaining weight and exercise. I took a couple of weekend trips in June that required a lot of time in a car or on a plane, and my step count fell off precipitously. I set a daily goal of 10,000 per day, and most days I have no problem making it, but while I was travelling I generally did not.

Maybe we can arrange some kind of meet-up after you return in October. Lots of nice places in NJ in the fall.

    All the best,
