Ho Hum the Holidays

Friday, December 18, 2009

Every Christmas brings a mix of emotions for me. I guess it does the same for everyone else too? My father's birthday was Christmas day before he passed away in 2000. I received a precious gift named Pepper Ruffin (see his picture on my sparkpage) on Christmas day 2004. This year with the hard economic times, gifts aren't feasible for my family. My husband lost his job several months ago so money is tight. But as I sit here and reflect I must say I'm grateful to be alive and well. I'm grateful for my family and all of the blessings we have. Things could be worse...I guess!

This holiday has been an odd one for us too. We're getting ready to move our son to Virginia Beach starting tomorrow. He's been living with us since May after getting his Masters degree. We will really miss having him around. Still we too are blessed that he was able to find a job and that we were able to spend time with him.

Hopefully you will have a good year in 2010.

Oh the much pressure to be festive and happy and spend oodles on gifts! No wonder it is easy to feel a bit Bah Humbug. I lost my Mom in November over 10 years ago, but I remember the first few Christmas' after her passing were very tough and somewhat of a blur. Try to enjoy the little things that can make this time of year special.........the lights, music, the smell of a bayberry candle.......try to remember the reason for the season. I know it is hard but allow yourself to enjoy whatever you can. Merry Christmas!
