A Fantastic Early Christmas Present

Friday, December 18, 2009

For the last few months I have been saving up all of my change, pennies, dimes, nickels and quarters. They were starting to add up. I had hoped that soon into the new year I could buy a pair of Sketcher “Shape Up” Shoes. A friend of mine on Sparks had recommended them after she bought a pair, as it had helped her back pain. She suffers from osteoarthritis of the lower back as I do. She claimed that they had helped her in walking and greatly reduced her pain. So I thought why not!!!! I’ll give them a try. But they are quite expensive, over $100.00. So I started saving up for them.

Well my DH knew this and yesterday as a surprise to me took me shopping and into a shoe store we went, where he asked for those shoes. He wanted to make sure they were properly fitted for me. I tried on a pair. They were so comfortable that I promptly wore them home. I was so excited to try them out. What I didn’t count on was how much walking I’d do that day. We had more errands to run, then on the mall for some window shopping, a movie, dinner and grocery shopping. When I got home I was more than a bit tired. I had some pain in my hips and legs, but my back felt pretty darn good considering all the walking I had done. (Your only suspose to walk in them for 45 minutes to an hour the 1st few times.

This morning I got up and was a bit sore from using muscles I hadn’t used very often. (These shoes make you walk differently due to their design. Kind of like walking on sand,) But I put them back on today to see how I would feel tonight. Well tonight I am a happy camper. No pain anywhere and my back doesn’t hurt at all and I wore those shoes all day. It’s the 1st TIME in a long, long time that I have walked over a mile, or was on my feet for a long period of time, that there wasn’t pain in my back by nighttime. Did I ever think I’d be excited about a pair of shoes? No, but I AM really excited about these. This might mean that I can get in even more exercise and walking, but time will tell on that. I will keep you all posted.

DH couldn’t have given me a better gift, he was happy about it and I am ecstatic. I can't thank him enough for that surprise.

These shoes take a bit of getting use to. It’s a different way of walking that helps with balance as well as toning up your leg muscles and possibly even helps in weight lose. There’s even a CD that comes with them for 10 and 30 minute work out plans.
Here is a web site about the "Shape Up' shoes made by Sketcher if you care to check it out.

Merry Christmas to all.
