Fake it 'til You Make it

Lets face it, exercising is really out of character for me. My ideal day is sitting in the garden knitting socks under a tree. I tend to be very good at sit down things - mathematics, knitting, and listening to old people tell me about the good old days.

Sure, I like to dance and to garden and to camp and to ride my bicycle... but the joy I get out of these things is not because they are physically active, the joy I get out of these things outweigh the fact that they are physically active.

But I am not going to let a little thing like intrinsic character and aptitude get in the way of me and my goals of being a strong, sinewy, smiling retired hippie when I grow up! So here I am exercising... I walk, I ride bikes, I am doing the Wii EA Active 30 day challenge for the second time (this time on "medium" effort!), I climb stairs, I dance to show tunes while cooking dinner (jazz hands make everything taste better!).

Do I like exercising? Heck No! But I just remember a great mom-like response to someone saying "I don't like vegetables" ... you don't have to like them, you just have to eat them. This is my relationship with exercising - I don't like it, I just do it! I do however like chatting with my husband while we walk. I love how beautiful the woods are when I'm biking. I like how my arms are starting to look. I love the feeling of pride I get when I realize that I am getting stronger and leaner and in better shape.

So exercise is out of character for me... I don't have to like it, I just have to do it!

    I like to exercise NOW, but really if I had my druthers, I'd rather lie on the bed and read and eat. Well, I do that once in a while, but having that active spirit is like youth in a bottle, I think it is the most youth-inducing thing there is.

    I admire your spirit and your goal-setting. You will be that cool thin hippy grandma before you know it!

    I love your attitude. I feel the same way about exercise. It's something I have to do, so I do it.

    Good girl! Yep. Gotta eat your veggies and move your body too. Start small. 10 minutes (of exercise) a day, how they say here on the website. It really will lead to better habits, more exercise and a brand new you! Good luck to you! emoticon
