Another Special Celebration

Monday, October 18, 2010

Today is our 58th Wedding Anniversary. It doesn’t seem possible that we have been together that long. God has surely blessed us through it all. In good times and bad, through sickness and health HE has been at our side. What an awesome journey it’s been.

Yesterday we spent the day celebrating with our 3 kids; our other two couldn’t make it due to work schedules, one in AZ and the other in WI. Also joining us in our celebration was our Son-In-Law, our chauffer for the day, A Daughter-In-Law and one of our Grandsons. We went looking for Elk in the Rocky Mountain National Park and found them. What a treat to see these beautiful animals grazing in the meadows. The colors of the Aspen trees in the high country were awesome, yet mixed among then were many beetle kill trees. Then we were off to Allenspark, CO for Mass at a historic stone Church.

What a contrast these 2 Anniversary evenings were. Two weeks ago we were invited to a special Anniversary Mass at the Cathedral in Denver, very solemn, beautiful and awe inspiring. DH wore his suit while I was spruced up in my nice clothes, even wearing heels. DH sported a boutonniere that matched red rose corsage I wore. Yesterday however was very different; we were in jeans and sweaters/jackets and prepared for much colder weather than we actually had. Even the heatless stone chapel was at a very comfortable temperature during Mass. This Chapel was so completely opposite from the magnificence of the Cathedral, as it was very simply adorned which only added to its grace and elegance. While 100’s attended the Cathedral Mass, there were maybe 50 at the Chapel. Yet in both places the Love that Christ has for us all was very evident.

As we left the Chapel, the parish Priest, who we had never met before, offered us his special anniversary blessing with a prayer for continued love and joy. Now how wonderful was that?

Going down the steps to our cars, one could look over at God's magnificent mountains to see the rain/snow clouds moving in over Longs Peak. By the time we got to our cars it was starting to sprinkle a bit, snow would soon be falling.

Next we all went to the Sweet Basilico Italian Café in Estes Park for dinner. Again, not a place for a Sparks person to be at. Our SIL offered us a toast after we had said prayers, then DH and I shared a glass of Wine. DH and I shared an ordered of lots of Shrimp served in a light lemon garlic sauce with asparagus on fettuccini. He had the salad and I had a wonderful veggie soup, so yummy, it was quite a tasty treat. After lots of love and laughter it was time to head down the mountain and home.

Today DH and I are enjoying a quiet day counting our Blessings, with possibly a trip to the movies later to see “Secretariat”.
WOW, 58 years together, Good Lord Willing we’ll be celebrating 59 next year.

Thank You Lord for all You have given us over the years.
