Motivation from seeing success in others

I’m a bit bored in the office so I’m blogging.

My stomach is rumbling, but I’m going to hold out until 11am for my morning snack. I’ll just make myself a cup of herbal tea now... hold on....

5 minutes later – I have a nice cup of chocolatey chai tea and I had a chat with a colleague about holidays and how 4 year olds have no fear on Disney Rides or jumping off diving boards! Anyway, back to my blog for the day. Tummy is still a bit rumbly but I was distracted by something else so only 30 minutes to wait for my Kashi bar now.

Last night I went to the Circuit training class again. I stuck mainly to cardio machines as my shoulders are still a bit sore. I ended up chatting to a 53 year old class mate on the rowing machine at the end for 20 minutes. She told me that she lost 92lbs recently! Amazing! And she looks so healthy and fit now. We talked about fat clothes and she said she was excited to be wearing horizontal stripes now and how it was fun to buy clothes in bright colours instead of what she used to buy herself – cover ups. She said that she exercised for a few months and saw little progress on the scales and then it all started happening. What a motivator! The new trainer is pretty poor. She’s quiet – you can’t hear what she says during warm up and she’s a bit timid, she closes her eyes when she’s demonstrating in the warm up and cool down/stretches. I wish the other trainer would return but I don’t think she’s going to.

Back at home I admit it... I ate two Skinny Cow truffle bars. But I was under my calories for the day – and I’ve just checked, I was within my ranges for carbs/fats and protein! Woo hoo to me!

This morning I got up at 5.15, threw on my running clothes and did the 3rd C25K session. My route planning was poor though as I ended up with uphills for my final running sessions which was not good. I ended up having to cut them a little short and adding an additional run at the start of the cool down. The distance was good though as the session finished just before I got home. I will try to work out a route that has flat or downhills for the final few runs. This is one of the problems with living on a mountain side! Another problem was that my new running pants kept falling down which is not a good look – luckily they didn’t fall too far but it’s annoying as this was the first time I’ve worn them. Perhaps I can sew some additional elastic into the waist band. They are not too big, just don’t have enough stretch in the waist to stay up.

I’m trying to add more fat into my diet and have brought some almonds with me today for a snack as well as a banana and a Kashi bar. I had a cheese stick yesterday for one of my snacks which worked pretty well. The week three of the Spring Bootcamp challenge says to eat at least 5 serves of fruit or veggies each day so I need to focus on that too. I also need to focus on portion sizes. Tonight it’s slow cook beef and sweet potato stew so I will add some broccoli and cauliflower on the side. Yesterday we had BBQ steaks with salad and a baked sweet potato. Now the weather is getting warmer I’m hoping to BBQ more and more as it’s easy and healthy.

This weekend I am going with my friend Amanda to Seattle for two nights. This will be the first time I’ve been away from my daughters ever but I’m sure they’ll be OK. I’m looking forward to it! I need to buy a new spring/summer jacket to wear to work and I’m looking forward to looking in the shops of Seattle. I will squeeze in another 30 minute C25K session early on Saturday morning and Amanda also wants to do a nice walk. Amanda will be bringing her baby, Lars who’s now 6 months, so there will be no partying and binge drinking which is good. A glass or two of wine with a healthy dinner will be nice. For some reason I find it a lot easier to chose healthier options when I’m with my friends than when I’m with Mark. I am not sure why...

And that’s my blog for today. I feel better having spoken to my circuit class mate and am going to try harder not to binge eat and drink at weekends. This is my downfall every week. Next weekend we are going camping again so I will have to be careful to monitor what I am eating. Hopefully the weather will be nice and we can go for a nice long walk again.
