Back home, back with the program...

Well, the week at home was as expected... sad... very, very sad.
The service was lovely... there were about 6 staff from the care home there, and one of the residents. One staff member had asked to say a few words and it was lovely to hear how much she was thought of by those who looked after her. They were all very sad. She'd been there for about 5 years and when she first got there, she thought she was there to help out... and they treated her that way, which helped her transition.
Then my two uncles talked about their memories and what they thought were mum's strongest traits. She had a wonderful sense of humour and she'd also "fixed up" my older uncle and his wife, and they talked about that too. She also saved someone's life once, when she was younger. I'm not sure what happened but it was on a beach near the village where we lived.
I wasn't able to stay too long at the wake but that was probably a good thing. I then had to fly home the following day so it's all been a bit whirlwindy really... It was good to see my gran and my family. I hope that my gran's health improves a little - it's her 90th birthday this year. Hopefully we will visit next year or the year after for a proper visit with the girls.
So, back home I'm really thinking about my own health as it would be awful to leave the girls when they have young children... Mum's dementia was severe and had been for a few years, brought on by the side-effects of type 2 diabetes. I really need to work hard to get my health and weight under control. So, I'm just about to sit down with my new clean eating recipe book and plan the week's meals.
Have a wonderful weekend, Spark Friends. I've missed you. Hopefully it won't take too long to catch up with you all and on all your news.
