Making it easier for Superman

Another Monday... but unlike last Monday, it’s not a public holiday so I’m back at work. I’ve got a few projects going on at the moment... all just about to kick off so I’m in the planning stages for all of these. Hopefully they should keep me employed for at least another year in my current job.
Our trip to Australia is fast approaching – as is the “rainy season” in Vancouver and we still have a leaky roof. We’ve had some quotes in and are hoping that the first one provided over a week ago, will be able to do the job for us in the next couple of weeks. It’s a big ask for them and also for us as we will also have to pay for it... so credit cards will have to be maxed just before our holiday. Not the best solution but infinitively a better outcome than returning to an unplanned indoor swimming pool. I sent Mark a text message to see if he’d heard from them yet, but he’s not replied so I’m thinking that they’ve not called back... oh please call back and say, “Yes! We can do it next week!”
So, this weekend was the SMOREs weekend challenge for the BLC17. So far I’ve got maximum points – what a perfect Viking I am! Admittedly, I was finishing up my strength training component in my pyjamas last night but I still completed all the requirements. I am aiming for a perfect score for all four days. But the scale hasn’t moved much. I am probably still eating too much, underestimating calories... Yes Yes, I know what a proper portion size looks like... I know this... and I am trying hard to reduce my portions. Last night’s dinner for example was a fair bit smaller than I usually serve myself. I was naughty on Saturday night and had 2 skinny cow chocolate truffle bars – but I had the calories spare... unless of course, I’ve underestimated again... I usually do a C25K on a Tuesday night so hopefully that will help to boost my loss for Weigh In Wednesday.
This weekend we are going camping again. This is where I often slip up the most. So – I will be extra careful at the weekend and TRACK everything again. I managed to track last time – so I will track this time too. Hopefully this nice weather will continue and we’ll be able to get out and walk a lot. Also, I’ll be able to stock up on some delicious stuff from Trader Joe’s again!
On Friday Vancouver experienced some tremors from an earthquake off Vancouver Island. I didn’t feel a thing as I was on my running machine at the time, which is kind of disappointing although I am SO glad that I couldn’t feel it as that would have meant more serious implications. It’s kind of scary to be in the “ring of fire” – the earthquake and volcano zone. As a child I was always super-scared of volcanoes and earthquakes – yes, I know... I was living in England and it is probably impossible to have a volcano or an earthquake in England but I was always scared of being sucked into giant cracks in the earth that could open up as we were walking the dogs or something. I blame the Superman movie – the one where Lois gets sucked into the earth during a quake and Christopher Reeve has to circle the earth at lightning speed, faster than a speeding bullet to reverse time and stop Lois from falling in. I didn’t have a personal Superman so I was always scared that I wouldn’t get out.
Anyway, Superman would probably prefer to lift me out of the huge crack in the earth if I weighed less – and was smaller to fit through gaps more easily... so I really must focus on my eating. I am going to concentrate my efforts on accurate recording of my food intake. Over-estimate where I am unsure and measure. I will wear out my measuring cups this week and I will dust off my electronic scale.
