Who wants a Flat Belly?!?
Tuesday, November 08, 2011
It’s now Tuesday of a short week, but then every week is short for me as I usually take Fridays off... so this week is a long one for me as it’s a 4 day week. I’m feeling tired as we started the week off by going to see the Cirque De Soleil show on Sunday night. It’s not the best start to the week by going for less than 7 hours sleep on a Sunday night!
This weekend I re-picked up the Flat Belly Diet book that I bought ages ago – at the same time as I bought The Spark. I read The Spark first and forgot about this book but decided now it is probably time to shake things up a bit. I switched on the SP menu planning tool for about an hour then decided it was too hard to work it out so I switched it off again... I toyed with the idea of expensive Dr Bernstein and his expensive vitamin injections.. I nearly joined Weight Watchers again but they were closed for a week while they move.... and so instead, I’m going to try something new. I bought the book around 10 months ago I think... together with at least one of the cook books... the one with the cup cake on the front cover! I remember I have that one... and I may have another.
The first 4 days of the Flat Belly Diet look pretty hard core with a fairly plain set of meals to help you kick start your progress and to help get rid of excess gas and bloating by the sound of it! But the book is well organised and provides a handy shopping list so I’ve copied it into my phone and am ready to hit the supermarket tonight and I’m aiming to start tomorrow – as long as I can mix up the “sassy water” before bed! Not sure how I’ll manage to take 1.5 litres of it to work but we’ll see! The rest of the plan looks simple enough... not too much of a change from what I’m doing really. Initially I was put off as it provides a 1600 calorie a day diet and I thought that was too many calories. However, now I am doing a lot more exercise, my maximum calorie level is a little higher than that so I’m hoping it should work out well. The only real difference I can see is that they break the day into 3 meals and 1 meal sized snack. I am used to 3 meals and 2 half sized snacks. You are also not allowed chewing gum for the first 4 days as it increases bloat and gas... I’m not sure how I’ll manage without my Wrigley’s Mint Choc Chip!
I’m feeling slimmer... I don’t think I look it – although I was checking out the belly bulge in the mirror at circuit training yesterday and there is a slight visible improvement. Nothing to dance about yet but well, I can see the beginnings of a waist – I think!
I’ve also taken to weighing myself more frequently again. I read in the Flat Belly Book that statistically (in the one small study they quote from) people who checked out their weight more than once a week, lost more... so I’m going for it too... it costs nothing and it might help to keep me more honest. So, this morning I was doing 1.1kgs from last Wednesday’s weigh in... in American, that’s 2lbs6oz... not too shabby! However, I remember reading ages ago that fat doesn’t show on the scales for 3 days after the food was eaten... which means that the weekend shows up tomorrow – the BLC weigh in day!
I was looking at my November goals – for fitness, tracking and losses and so far I think I’m relatively on track – except for running. I’m only doing 2 runs a week when I should be doing 3. I have a half marathon in 19 days! I will have to try harder! My spreadsheet slipped under my keyboard and I just noticed it this morning. I should do some ticking of boxes... some things I’ve done well, just not all.
I’m tracking well this month so far. I tracked while we were at the cabin last weekend and I even tracked last night – which stopped me for helping myself to more Halloween candy. I did push myself over my calorie limit yesterday but not by much – and if I wasn’t tracking I am sure it would have been much worse!
Tomorrow is official BLC weigh in Wednesday so fingers crossed for the scales!
